yeah there you go :)
most of what you'll need esp in the early challenges will be in the explanation/example code on the left
so read it carefully
its not a race so you can take your time w/ it

me neither! but it still says "Your a element should have the anchor text of "cat photos".
You need an a element that links to http://freecatphotoapp.com
Make sure your a element has a closing tag."
"Link to external pages with anchor elements"

ChloeHewitt

Coy Sanders

May 03 2016 00:45
FCC is not all-inclusive @ChloeHewitt , theres alot out there
it gets you in the right direction though
theres other programming languages out there too, but JavaScript is definitely most prevalent right now so its not a bad one to learn

Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
May 03 2016 00:47
@raggy833 can you post what you have and what question you have?
@ChloeHewitt right now what you're writing is some HTML and CSS
Theres also Java and JavaScript languages, but you'll only be working on JavaScript for now. Java completely different language
HTML is used to give webpages structure, its the tags you've been writing like <p> and <a> and <div>
CSS is used to style HTML, the code that you've been putting between the <style> tags, like this :
thick-green-border {
    border-color: green;
    border-width: 10px;
    border-style: solid;
    border-radius: 50%;
  }
and JavaScript is used to make your webpages more interactive typically
Ragnar
@raggy833
May 03 2016 00:49
@coymeetsworld
nextInLine([], 1) should return 1
nextInLine([2], 1) should return 2
nextInLine([5,6,7,8,9], 1) should return 5
After nextInLine(testArr, 10), testArr[4] should be 10
is the conditions that I have to meet.

@coymeetsworld
function nextInLine(arr, item) {
arr.shift();
arr.push(item);

return item;
}

var testArr = [1,2,3,4,5];

console.log("Before: " + JSON.stringify(testArr));
console.log(nextInLine(testArr, 6)); // Modify this line to test
console.log("After: " + JSON.stringify(testArr));
//is the code that I have as for now

Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
May 03 2016 00:50
you got right idea @raggy833, but couple of things
you don't want to return item, item is what you want to put into the end of the array, which you did correctly
you actually want to return what comes out of arr.shift()
arr.shift() removes the first item and consequently is the return value of that function
if you look at the example on the MDN page
//fruits = ["Apple", "Banana"];
var first = fruits.shift(); // remove Apple from the front
//first is equal to "Apple"
//fruits only has Banana left in the array: ["Banana"];
Ragnar
@raggy833
May 03 2016 00:53
@coymeetsworld I kinda get it... how can I put arr.shift() as my return?
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
May 03 2016 00:53
one of two ways, you can assign a variable to the output of shift like i did in my example and return that variable
or even better just forego the variable all together, and just return fruits.shift()

Can anyone give me a pointer as to what I am missing in Challenge 194 - Assignment with a Returned Value. Instructions are: "Call the processArg function with an argument of 7 and assign its return value to the variable processed."
I have code as follows:

// Setup
var processed = 0;

function processArg(num) {
return (num + 3) / 5;
}

// Only change code below this line

processed = processArg (7);

My result is: processed = 2 (which is correct), but I get a cross saying "You should assign processArg to processed" - which i am not sure what I must do.

New here everyone. I am working on #15 "Use a CSS Class to Style an Element" and I am suppose to make the h2 element red AND declare a "red-text" but it appears that I can only get one.

<style>
h2 .red-text {color: red;
}
</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<p>Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.</p>

Never mind. I took out the "h2" in front of the ".red-text" and that did the trick.

This is probably a stupid question but I am not sure what I'm doing wrong for this challenge. The question is: 'Make the second child in each of your well elements bounce. You must target the children of element with the target class." and my solution was: $('.well:nth-child(2)').addClass('animated bounce'); But it is not correct apparently

Hi guys, I'm working on my Build a Wikipedia Viewer project. I'm able to pull the API and get the data I need. However, I can't seem to get the links of the articles that I want. If you open the link https://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=opensearch&search=Naruto, in the end of the array there are links of the articles. Here is my codepen. https://codepen.io/leanhduy1998/pen/MyqvWJ

:point_right: brownie points [wiki]

The number beside your picture on Free Code Camp tells you how many Brownie Points you have.

A user profile picture next to a with Brownie Points score

There are two ways you can get Brownie Points:

  1. Complete challenges - you get one point per challenge you complete
  2. Help other campers in chat - each time you help another camper and they thank you (by typing "thanks @yourname"), you will get a point

Brownie Points help you look like the kind of person who codes a lot, shares relevant links, and helps people.

They also add to your Streak.

Target a specific child of an element using jquery
I'm not sure how it specifically targets the well class as it wasn't mentioned. target seems generic
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
May 03 2016 02:18
it doesn't target the well class, its on the class target
and nth-child(2) means choose the 2nd element

yeah it's not defined in your code @vinmah, doesn't need to be necessarily
your jQuery code is looking for that class, doesn't mean you need to style each class or anything

Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
May 03 2016 02:23
sorry i mean like theres no style for the class target defined
like there's no
.target {
  some css code
}
doesn't need to be, but target is listed as a class for each button
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target1">#target1</button>
the button has 3 classes, btn and btn-default, and lastly target

You should add a <i class="fa fa-info-circle"></i> within your info button element.
Make sure each of your i elements has a closing tag and <i class="fa fa-thumbs-up"></i> is in your like button element.

function destroyer(arr) {
  var args = Array.prototype.slice.call(arguments);
  args.splice(0, 1);
  return arr.filter(function(element) {
    return args.indexOf(element) === -1;
  });
}
Marian Menschig
@mmenschig
May 03 2016 06:31
@123xylem Hey, so essentially you are running a filter on each element on whether or not the indexOf value is -1
arguments = your array that you want filtered
i suggest you use some console.log(element) and console.log(arr) in there to help you understand whats going on
also, indexOf returns an 0, a positive integer, or -1, so your last line returns either true or false
the filter( ) method returns an array

May 03 2016 06:58
it does'nt work :(
Your left-well element should have a red background.
You should use the .parent() function to modify this element.
The .parent() method should be called on the #target1 element.
Only use jQuery to add these classes to the element.

May 03 2016 07:01

@123xylem

  return arr.filter(function(element) {
    return args.indexOf(element) === -1;
  });
}

filter is method on Array.prototype, it takes callback as argument

function(element){
   return args.indexOf(element) === -1;
}

for each element (value of arr) it performs call to another array

args.indexOf(element) === -1;

it returns boolean value, if it returns true, this element will be returned in new array, if false, this element wont be added in new array

@awakeningosiris but you still haven't given us a context. is this part of the challenge description? is this a test? what is the challenge? what is the rest of your code?

:point_right: css flexbox [wiki]

CSS Flexbox

CSS Flexbox allows us to easily format our HTML like you never knew was possible. With flexbox it is possible to align vertically and horizontally, easily. Like the sound of it? Yeah me too.

It is also fantastic for general layout of your website or app, it is easy to learn, supported well (in all modern browsers) and is great to work with, not to mention it doesn't take long to get to grips with at all!

@paprzytula we have to use container-fluid class and nest all elements within a div element

@ankur1163 if you don't the quote() will never execute

@theBallackFan you need to create a new div with class="container-fluid", and at the end you need to close this div using </div>
Paweł Przytuła

May 03 2016 12:08
@theBallackFan so type div.container-fluid hit TAB, then move </div> to an end of your code, above body

@Shuvro1 So you need to make result = a string. The string will read something like "I have a small cat and he sits quietly"
@Shuvro1 But instead of the nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs you need to pass in the placeholders
So basically it would read like: "I have a " + Adjective + " " + Noun + " and he is " + ......[etc] @Shuvro1

May 03 2016 14:06
@Shirmardi You should push once and only if all properties match (sourceString is probably not what you want it to be, replace that by sourceKey). You could do that by using sourceKey.every(), or by keeping track of any misses.
@JpNeuman Reset is_prime to true before your inner loop, check it after your inner loop and print then.

@Shirmardi every checks whether the callback returns truthy for all elements. Like

var invited = ["Bill", "Jane", "Cassandra"];
var came = ["Bill", "Cassandra", "Robert"];
var onlyInvited = came.every(function(name) { // name is an element of came
  return invited.indexOf(name) !== -1; // check whether name is on the invited list
});

It also has a brother called some (which will return true if the callback returns truthy for any element).

Hey guys, i’m a little stuck on #148. I have to change the code to use the ++ operator on myVar. My code isn’t working:
var myVar = 87;

// Only change code below this line
myVar = myVar++ + 1;

the output is 88 but it says "myVar = myVar should be changed"
