if you just want to move it down on the page just modify the margin-top attribute of the div

@time4testing2 you can apply properties to elements. so since a form is an element you could do something like form { background-color: red; }

@AliMusa8790 A row usually contains 12 elements or less. If you're just stacking <div class="col-md-3"> or any other column type next to each other no need for multiple rows just one to encapsulate your columns.
there are cases where you can nest rows though

I understand what it does, but that is what confuses me. It does something. It seems like more of an extendible feature, than a 'selector' in the sense that other selectors simply select an element to modify in the CSS
:hover is the lowest level of bling lol

Hi all - I'm stuck at the counting card assignment. I'm still playing it with but I feel I might not fully understand what I'm being asked to to. This is the code I have:
var count = 0;

function cc(card) {
// Only change code below this line
switch (card){
case 2:
case 3:
case 4:
case 5:
case 6:
count++;
console.log(count + "Bet");
break;

case 7:
case 8:
case 9:

console.log(count++ || count-- + "Hold");
break;

case 10:
case 'J':
case 'Q':
case 'K':
case 'A':
count ++;
console.log (count + "hold");
break;

}

return "Change Me";
// Only change code above this line
}

// Add/remove calls to test your function.
// Note: Only the last will display
cc(2); cc(3); cc(7); cc('K'); cc('A');

also where return "Change me" is is where you will check the count variable and determine whether to bet or hold
you don't check it inside the switch statement, the decision to bet or hold relies on all the cards you've seen so far, not just one
so for example if you saw a 2, a 3, another 2, then you see a King, even though you see a King the count is still greater than 0 so you want to Bet even though you saw a King

Hey guys, I just started FCC, but I'm stuck at an image re-sizing step. It wants me to create a CSS class to make an image smaller, but I can't seem to figure out why it wont work. Here's the code.<link href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Lobster" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">

<style>

p {

}

.smaller-image {
width: 100px;
}
</style>

var count = 0;

function cc(card) {

switch (card){
case 2:
case 3:
case 4:
case 5:
case 6:
count++;

break;

case 10:
case 'J':
case 'Q':
case 'K':

 count--;
 console.log(count + " " + "Hold");
  break;

}

return card;
// Only change code above this line

@coymeetsworld I tried using return cc. I also tried return count.
Coy Sanders

count + "Move"
move being either Bet or Hold

@coymeetsworld even tried return count + card;
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
May 11 2016 03:38
you don't want to return the card
so it says if the count is positive, you want to Bet
so you return the count plus the String Bet
if the count is 0 or less, you want to Hold.
so you return the count plus the String Hold
@GomezDaniel you already defined the style, that part is good

CSS has a property called width that controls an element's width. Just like with fonts, we'll use px (pixels) to specify the image's width.

For example, if we wanted to create a CSS class called larger-image that gave HTML elements a width of 500 pixels, we'd use:

<style>
.larger-image {
width: 500px;
}
</style>
Create a class called smaller-image and use it to resize the image so that it's only 100 pixels wide.

Note
Due to browser implementation differences, you may need to be at 100% zoom to pass the tests on this challeng

I cant get passed this damn thing

So I have a problem. Anyone who has successfully ran the getCurrentPosition in their Weather app, did they come across the problem with needing to run it with https in the url?
Because when I change it to https, it breaks the api. And yes, I also changed the api link to https, but when I do that, it does not load.

So, I'm doing HTML at the moment, but I don't feel like I'm learning it. I'm getting through it easy enough, but it feels like I'm just following directions. Will I eventually UNDERSTAND the concepts of HTML using FCC, or will I need extra resources?

@GomezDaniel , yes and yes
you will get it-- in a while, there will be projects that will force you to revisit a lot,
but yes, outside resources will help
and later on, they will be absolutely necessary

May 11 2016 05:34
Oh my god, I found the solution, to anyone else who is working on this problem.
It's actually impossible (at least on Chrome), to use getCurrentPosition, which is the obvious, default way you would grab the user's location (latitude and longitude) because you need to be using https in order for Chrome to let you get that data.
Which is fine, except Chrome will also refuse to load the default API that freecodecamp provided. Switching the API url call to "https" will not work, because the API doesn't support this.
So in order to grab the user's location, you need to use another API that grabs the user's IP address and returns their latitude and longitude.

For HTML, i actually liked going through W3schools tut, and making myself try each exercise differently, personalised. it helped me a lot. But, that site is pretty panned by most here, so grain of salt with that. For CSS, i like CSS tricks-- i google my CSS question, and if they come up in the results, thats the one i use. For JS, MDN-- which is really difficult at first, at least to me and some others-- is invaluable. the suggested reading , Javascript for Cats, Eloquent Javascript, and You Dont Know JS are all excellent, and i'd read them in that order (YDKJS is by far my fav, but i wouldn't have been able to follow it before the others and more practice...) @GomezDaniel And, practicing on the free section of CodeAcademy and DASH and Khan Academy is always good for repetition~

@upendrahanda look at using margin: 0 auto; on the fieldset in your css
upendrahanda
@upendrahanda
May 11 2016 06:20
Although I can achieve this by adding text-align:left in the fieldset, but this is tedious as I will have to do it on all child elements thereof
its because fieldset is within your center block and you have align center applied to the block. This should not be necessary.

@espython I suppose anything can help although I'd advise going through the front-end course first and learning the raw javascript techniques before moving onto angular. That's how I'm doing it anyway. It allows you to cement fundamental concepts before getting into frameworks.

Your #target1 element should have the classes animated‚ shake and btn-primary. My code is: <script>

$(".btn").addClass("animate shake");
$("button").addClass("animate");

     sum1 = sum;
     sum2 = oldSum1;
  }
  return sum;
}
function sumFibs(num) {
  var i = 0;
  var sum = 0;
  var f = 0;
  while(sum <= num){
    f = fib(i++);
    var odd = ((f % 2) === 1);

"Classes have no special abilities in the browser, but ID's do have one very important trick up their sleeve. This is the "hash value" in the URL. If you have a URL like http://yourdomain.com#comments, the browser will attempt to locate the element with an ID of "comments" and will automatically scroll the page to show that element. It is important to note here that the browser will scroll whatever element it needs to in order to show that element, so if you did something special like a scrollable DIV area within your regular body, that div will be scrolled too."
in general - all of the properties that classes have are made by you, but IDs have some default functions
you can read about it here

May 11 2016 12:23
and what happens if i don't add it
Blauelf
@Blauelf
May 11 2016 12:23
Then you target an element type instead.
# would refer to an id instead of element type or class. And then, there are pseudo-classes with : :D
div.blue.shade#block1 would match a "div"-type element of classes "blue" and "shade" with id "block1".
appyfizz12
@appyfizz12
May 11 2016 12:30
ok i got with grezegorz but not with blauelf (i understood half :smile: ) so if we add . we will add that change wherever we add class="that name in style after .XXXX" but if dot is ignored i am not pretty clear
Blauelf
@Blauelf
May 11 2016 12:31
The dot is not part of the class name, it just marks a class name in CSS selectors. As does a #, it is not part of the ID.
Grzegorz
@bluznierca1
May 11 2016 12:31
look: to catch the element by its class you use "." during styling. Otherwise it will not work, there will appear an error. To catch ID of the element, during styling you use "#", otherwise it will not work. That is all in this moment ;)
and to check what happens... create files on your computer, type it and open in the browser and you will see what kind of problems you occure. If you do not know how to check it - click F12 in the browser and choose "Console" - there you can see what is going on

how can i use a recursive function in javascript is there an example?
Blauelf
@Blauelf
May 11 2016 12:51

A recursive function is one that calls itself, so for example

function countdown(time) {
  console.log(time);
  if (time>0) {
    countdown(time - 1);
  }
}

(in this case, a for-loop would have been better, as near-infinite recursion eventually causes the call stack or memory to be full, whichever happens first, with crashes to either the script or even your browser)

Programming language Haskell is even using recursion instead of regular loops, but Haskell is optimizing such things pretty well, so no large call stack :)

I don't know if this will make you feel any better but at least it's happening in your computer. The worst is when the problem doesn't happen on your end. At least you can debug. You can add alerts into the code to see at what point it stops. That is something that can't do if it's only happening on someone else's computer.

:point_right: algorithm no repeats please [wiki]

Problem Explanation:

  • This task requires us to look at each possible permutation of a string. This is best done using a recursion function. Being able to build a function which collects all permutations of a string is a common interview question, so there is no shortage of tutorials out there on how to do this, in many different code languages.
  • This task can still be daunting even after watching a tutorial. You will want to send each new use of the function 3 inputs: 1. a new string (or character array) that is being built, 2. a position in your new string that's going to be filled next, and 3. an idea of what characters (more specifically positions) from the original string have yet to be used. The pseudo code will look something like this:

    ```
    var str = ???;
    perm(current position in original string, what's been used in original string, current string build thus far){
    if(current string is finished) {
    print current string;
    }else{
    for(var i = 0; i < str.length; i++) {
    if(str[i] has not been used) {
      put str[i] into the current position;
      mark str[i] as used
      perm(current position in original string, what's been used in original string, current string build thus far)
      unmark str[i] as used because another branch in the tree for i + 1 will still likely use it;
    }
    }
    }
    }
@DumeD you need to place your bootstrap file before your own javascript file. Because right now, since your JS file comes before the bootstrap file, it basically does not file the bootstrap library when it tries to do so from your JS file.
Hi, this isn't my tribute page, but I'm looking at different things and I want to know something... why does the grid system completely go out of the window when you resize the output, and start left aligning everything? http://codepen.io/escalonamm/pen/jqNWgE
everything should go down the middle of the page
well, the headline stays in the right place but everything else changes
guys just a small query. I have multiple spans on a page, one of which has the text "0" and the another one has text "100". Now i have to find these two spans and perform operations. I tried
$("span:contains('0')").css("color","red");
bootstrap uses xs sm md lg prefixes to target multiple resolutions
@ThomasDean80 if u resize.. and whatever column prefix u use dont fit on the pre-defined size bootstrap have.. it just redistribute ur content
probably u shoudl refer to bootstrap grid documentation to learn more
can i get help please:
Each of your Bootstrap buttons should be nested within its own div element with the class col-xs-4.
i did like this : <div class "col-xs-4">
<button class="btn btn-block btn-primary">Like</button></div>
Your stylesheet should declare a red-text class and have its color set to red.
How would i do that ?
<style>
h2 {
color: red;
}
blue-text{color: red;}
</style>
<h2 class="red-text" >CatPhotoApp</h2>
this the code !!
forestfriend
@forestfriend
Hi all. Looking for some help with the Sorted Union Bonfire, my code looks to be passing the tests when I tested it via JSBin but it’s not passing the Bonfire. I do wonder if it’s to do with the expect result having a space between each comma’d item such as [1, 2, 3] and not [1,2,3]. Any help would be appreciated :)
function unite(arr1, arr2, arr3) {
  var args = Array.prototype.slice.call(arguments);
  var flatten = args.reduce(function(a,b){
    return a.concat(b);
  });
  var newArray = flatten.reduce(function(prev, current) {
    if (prev.indexOf(current) < 0) {
        prev.push(current);
    }
    return prev;
  }, []);
  return newArray;
}
unite([1, 3, 2], [5, 2, 1, 4], [2, 1]);
