@OmniBravo you need to define sections on your pages with the ids of your hyperlinks
i.e. you have <li><a href="#About">About Me</a></li> so you need some thing with an id of #about, like <div id="about">

:point_right: code formatting [wiki]

Multi line Code

```js ⇦ Type 3 backticks and then press [shift + enter ⏎] (type js or html or css)
<paste your code here>,
then press [shift + enter ⏎]
``` ⇦ Type 3 backticks, then press [enter ⏎]

Single line Code

This an inline `<paste code here>` code formatting with a single backtick() at _start_ and _end_ around thecode`.

:point_right: challenge stand in line [wiki]

Challenge Stand In Line

About queues

In Computer Science a queue is an abstract Data Structure_ where items are kept in order. New items can be added at the back of the queue and old items are taken off from the front of the _queue.

Instructions

Write a function nextInLine which takes an "array" and an "item" as arguments.

Add the item onto the end of the array, then remove the first element of the array.

The nextInLine function should return the element that was removed.

Remember to use Read-Search-Ask if you get stuck. Try to pair program. Write your own code.

  return num * factorialize(num - 1);
}

factorialize(5);

shatakan
@shatakan
May 19 2016 02:35
Well, the factorial of 0 is 1 - this isn't very logical, but it's a mathematical convention, so it has to be defined separately (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mfk_L4Nx2ZI - fascinating video on this point here).
goodm0urning

May 19 2016 02:38
It first call the function with num equals 5 then on the return it multiplies 5 with the results of the same function with bum equals 5-1 and so on. If you write it out step by step and go through the code you'll see what it does.

@goodm0urning grab paper and pencil and write out the results
shatakan
@shatakan
May 19 2016 02:40
@daniemeijer You're right - it's defined recursively, so the function keeps returning n*n-1 until n==0
goodm0urning
@goodm0urning
May 19 2016 02:41
@daniemeijer oh, so it's recalling the function over and over?
What makes it defined recursively?
shatakan
@shatakan
May 19 2016 02:41
Yup!
Dennis Niemeijer
@daniemeijer
May 19 2016 02:41
@goodm0urning that's right
shatakan
@shatakan
May 19 2016 02:41
Well, the local variable (num) is used as part of the definition of itself
This is very common in maths
It simplifies a lot of algorithms too
goodm0urning
@goodm0urning
May 19 2016 02:42
Why does it run the function over and over until num===0?
Dennis Niemeijer
@daniemeijer
May 19 2016 02:43
Recursion in computer science is a method where the solution to a problem depends on solutions to smaller instances of the same problem (as opposed to iteration).

@DanielMW34
May 19 2016 03:02
hmmmm... that does not seem very complicated
shatakan
@shatakan
May 19 2016 03:02
If you were making an actual website, the folders containing all the content would be hosted on a server (or your harddrive, or something)
And they'd be in a folder called css
In that case, the url would just be /Unicode_IEC_symbol.woff
Because the "URL" would be the folder all the html/css/script files and website assets were saved into
@DanielMW34 I hope you can visualise that
Daniel
@DanielMW34
May 19 2016 03:04
Yes, that is a great answer
shatakan
@shatakan
May 19 2016 03:04
In fact
Try saving a webpage
Daniel
@DanielMW34
May 19 2016 03:04
Final question regarding this...
shatakan
@shatakan
May 19 2016 03:04
Press Control+S on any webpage
Choose "Web Page, Complete"
It should saved a folder with all the images, scripts, html etc
Daniel
@DanielMW34
May 19 2016 03:05
I will give that a try
shatakan
@shatakan
May 19 2016 03:05
That will help you to see exactly how it works
Daniel
@DanielMW34
May 19 2016 03:06
so let me ask this question... why are there soo many formats to download?
ex: TrueType Font (.ttf)
SVG Font (.svg)
Web Open Font Format (.woff)
Web Open Font Format (.woff2)
Embedded OpenType (.eot)
OpenType (.otf)
shatakan
@shatakan
May 19 2016 03:06
Different formats
Daniel
@DanielMW34
May 19 2016 03:06
will simply using one not work? Do I need all of these? Do I call / reference them individually in my HTML ?
shatakan
@shatakan
May 19 2016 03:06
.ttf is the one Microsoft uses
.svg is a standard vector graphics format
They all do the same thing, basically
Daniel
@DanielMW34
May 19 2016 03:07
So I don't NEED them all in my CSS ?
shatakan
@shatakan
May 19 2016 03:07
I would, tbh
Daniel
@DanielMW34
May 19 2016 03:07
gotcha
shatakan
@shatakan
May 19 2016 03:07
In case of them doesn't load, have others as an alt="" or something
*one of them
idk
Up to you
Daniel
@DanielMW34
May 19 2016 03:08
and in terms of "calling" this to work in my HTML... create a class referencing "font-family: iec_symbols_unicoderegular" and then input the escape code "&#x23FB;" ?
shatakan
@shatakan
May 19 2016 03:09
Sure, try it
If the file exists, if there's no broken link, it should work fine
Daniel
@DanielMW34
May 19 2016 03:09
ok, if it fails, may I direct message you for more troubleshooting help ?

Brownie Points

The number beside your picture on Free Code Camp tells you how many Brownie Points you have.

A user profile picture next to a with Brownie Points score

There are two ways you can get Brownie Points:

  1. Complete challenges - you get one point per challenge you complete
  2. Help other campers in chat - each time you help another camper and they thank you (by typing "thanks @yourname"), you will get a point

Brownie Points help you look like the kind of person who codes a lot, shares relevant links, and helps people.

They also add to your Streak.

two parts, @amberskong
you make a class in your style section
<style>

}
and you apply the class to the div in the html
<div class= "some-class">
(the above are examples. you would want to use gray-background and gray... :blush: )

put the .smaller image down below p in the style section,

Ankit Panwar

@SteveLongoria The div will only be as big as the content in it. Currently you only have an <h1> element in it with a few words. Setting the min-height and min-width to 100% of the screen size. I suggest you rather use px units or the viewport units vw for width and vh for height.

Should this work? I'm worried about testing it. IT's meant to backup EVERYTHING in the system, and store it in the "MAIN_BACKUP_DIRECTORY" file
#!/usr/bin/python

import datetime.datetime
import shuttil
import os

MAIN_BACKUP_DIRECTORY = '~/chapter2tests/backupDir/backup_{0}'
HOMEDIR = "~/"

def copyfiles(src, dest):
    for file in os.listdir(src):
        file_path = os.path.join(src, file)
        if os.path.isfile(file_path):
            shutil.copy(file_path, dest)

#NEXT STEP IS TO CONTINUE COPYING FILES!!!
# http://codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/49351/python-back-up-script

def copyfilesto(srcdir, destdir):
    copyfiles(src, destdir)

def getNameForBackup():
    now = str(datetime.datetime.now())[:16]
    now = date.replace(' ', '_').replace(':', '')
    return MAIN_BACKUP_DIRECTORY.replace("{0}", "%d-%d-%d-%d:%d:%d:%d" % (now.year, now.month, now.day, now.hour, now.minute, now.second, now.millisecond))

def performBackup():

print ("Making backup of homedir")
print ("\nCopying files from homedir (%s) to backupdir (%s)" % ( HOMEDIR, MAIN_BACKUP_DIRECTORY)

performBackup(HOMEDIR, MAIN_BACKUP_DIRECTORY)

May 19 2016 11:38
this is my lesson

Font size is controlled by the font-size CSS property, like this:

h1 {
font-size: 30px;
}
Create a second p element with the following kitty ipsum text: Purr jump eat the grass rip the couch scratched sunbathe, shed everywhere rip the couch sleep in the sink fluffy fur catnip scratched.

Inside the same <style> tag that contains your red-text class, create an entry for p elements and set the font-size to 16 pixels (16px).

Note
Due to browser implementation differences, you may need to be at 100% zoom to pass the tests on this challenge.

Also, please do not add a class attribute to your new p element.

and this is my code

<style>

.red-text {color: red;}

.p {font-size: 16x;}

</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<p class="p">Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.</p>

<p>Purr jump eat the grass rip the couch scratched sunbathe, shed everywhere rip the couch sleep in the sink fluffy fur catnip scratched.
</p>

TIP: Add this to your .bashrc (or equivalent) on your linux machine. (If you use a linux machine/image to code on)
IT will allow you to run the command "mkcd filename" it will make a directory, then cd you into it.
mkcd () {
  mkdir "$1"
  cd "$1"
}
make sure to restart your connection to the machine/image for it to be active

This command on a linux/unix machine will create a document of name "fileTemp" and put the string in quotes into it.
    echo "Hello World!" > fileTemp
IN ADDITION, you can do the following to put the contents of "fileTemp" into "fileTemp2", its the exact same as doing cp fileTemp fileTemp2
    cat fileTemp > fileTemp2
cat will get the fileTemp contents, by default prints to your screen, the pipe will direct that output to fileTemp2
if temp2 does not exist, it will create it
you can do this, to print the contents of a file onto the terminal screen
    echo | cat filetemp2
