when we use a class, we need to put what the class is in the <style> section (which you have done, .smaller-image { width: 100px; }
) AND
we also have to apply that class to the element itself,
so, if you want the image to be that class,
you can do something like this (example, not copy and paste!) :
<img class = "example-class" src = "www.example.com">

you can comment out stuff by putting <!-- in front and `--> after what you want to comment out, @Abby7890

@sanchit13 , its a bit formulaic/very grid-based, i.e. not terribly beautiful, just gets the job done. Flex box is also quite popular here (similar cons), as is pure CSS.... that said, its also fine-- and very beneficial to be able to at least know how to use it, even if you choose not to shrug for better answers, anyone else can chime in, I'm a newbie as well, just observed many a convo about it. Its very popular with back-end devs here, as it does allow decent looking stuff with less effort~

@oZmero , you need to add to the <style> section,
oZmero
@oZmero
May 22 2016 02:02
could u show e plz
me*
rphares
@rphares
May 22 2016 02:03
for example, lets say i wanted to change the size of all my h2 elements,
i could write:
<style>
  .red-text {
    color: red;
  }
  h2 {
   font-size: 32px
}
</style>
except, you dont want to change h2, you want to change p... and you dont want 32px, you want 16px... ;)
oZmero
@oZmero
May 22 2016 02:04
but it says it wants me to add the p element

rphares

yes-- mine was an example, not the answer
where i put h2, you can put p

<p class="red-text" yadayadaya but like ok but ok i can se it on h2 or p or h1 or style
rphares
@rphares
May 22 2016 02:07
in this exercise, you arent changing it by class,
you are changing it by element
so you dont need to change the html
you already have p elements,
the css you write in the <style> section will be applied to whichever elements you say--
in my example it would be applied to all the h2
oZmero
@oZmero

oZmero

May 22 2016 02:12

rphares
@rphares
May 22 2016 02:12
oooh, i see what you are confused on--
oZmero
@oZmero
May 22 2016 02:12

lled by the font-size CSS property, like this:

h1 {
font-size: 30px;
}
Create a second p element with the following kitty ipsum text: Purr jump eat the grass rip the couch scratched sunbathe, shed everywhere rip the couch sleep in the sink fluffy fur catnip scratched.

Inside the same <style> tag that contains your red-text class, create an entry for p elements and set the font-size to 16 pixels (16px).

Note
Due to browser implementation differences, you may need to be at 100% zoom to pass the tests on this challenge.

Also, please do not add a class attribute to your new p element.

rphares
@rphares
May 22 2016 02:13
okay, the p {font-size: 16px;} part you have goes in the <style> section
Andres Bravo
@OmniBravo
May 22 2016 02:13
 <input type="checkbox" checked id='x' class='sym'><p>X</p></input>
rphares
@rphares
May 22 2016 02:13
thats seperate from creating a new <p> element,
thats how we change the size, but not the same thing, @oZmero
so move that from the bottom to up top, in the <style> section
then, to create a new one--
elements usually have an opening and closing tag, right?
for example, an h2 element might look like this:
<h2>Some text</h2>
oZmero
@oZmero
May 22 2016 02:14
so like but how do i put righting would i say this and can i ad u as a friend and we could help eahc other out
rphares
@rphares
May 22 2016 02:14
so, to create a new p element,
heh, gitter doesn't have any friend type features as far as i know--
feel free to tag me whenever-- just write @rphares in a message here-- and when i come back on line i'll always rely :blush:
to make the new <p> element at the bottom,
oZmero
@oZmero
May 22 2016 02:16
but i would say <style>.red-text {color: red; }</style> ????? and were not aloud to be riends in this thats kinda stupid
rphares
@rphares
May 22 2016 02:16

you want to follow the same format as this example:

<h2>Some text</h2>
or

<h1>Some stuff</h1>

rphares
@rphares
May 22 2016 02:17

you already have

<style>
.red-text {color: red; }

PUT THE STUFF HERE
</style>

so now, you need to add what you put at the bottom in the same style section--where i wrote PUT THE STUFF HERE ;) @oZmero

oZmero
@oZmero
May 22 2016 02:17
yeah but if it wants me to put a html in style can i put a html in a html like so <?> <?></?></?>
rphares
@rphares
May 22 2016 02:17
this line, from your code goes where i said PUT THE STUFF HERE p {font-size: 16px;}
that is separate,
you dont put the html in the css,
you put the html at the bottom-- you have that in the right place,
you just wrote it a little wrong,
you have:
<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<p class="red-text">Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.</p>
<p {font-size: 16px;}Purr jump eat the grass rip the couch scratched sunbathe, shed everywhere rip the couch sleep in the sink fluffy fur catnip scratched.</p>// DELETE {font-size: 16px;} and put a > instead!
that bottom <p {font-size: 16px;}
should just be <p>

hi, @sahilmaknojiya -- there are two steps to this challenge,
you might wanna reset your code, it might make it easier--
first: you wrote the class,
.smaller-image {width: 100px;
  }
that is correct, BUT
it needs to go in the same <style> section as the other css
This message was deleted
we only ever have one <style> section
so that code should go up top, with the rest of your css

you need to apply the class to the img, @sahilmaknojiya
you applied it to a image, but you made anew one,
it wants you to change the image you already had,
this one: <img src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat">
you can add a class to an image like this:
<img class = "your-class" src = "www.example.com">
that is an example-- use <img src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat"> and add the class to it ;)

so, your <style> section is where you will put ALL the styling, @oZmero -- you can tell your app to have many, many different colors, fonts, sizes, etc
they all go in the same spot, in-between ONE set of <style> and </style>
so, you want to keep the red-text part--
you decided to make part of your page have red coloured text,
you arent getting rid of that, you like that,
oZmero
@oZmero
May 22 2016 02:34
so ill just make another style right
rphares

.smaller-image{

}
under the <style>

Minh Anh Lam
@LMApro
May 22 2016 04:11
@onkar027 Keep in mind that you can not be in rush, keep calm. I'll show you a great article for motivation:
@onkar027 "Now this is a subject we’ve talked about a little bit, but I want to talk more about it, this
idea of plateaus. A plateau is a flat area that usually is kind of up on top of a
mountain. So, for example, you go up a big hill and you’re going up, up, up and then
suddenly it’s flat and it’s a big long flat area that’s kind of high up.
Now a plateau in learning is something that all of you have experienced. Because it’s
normal when we learn that we learn a lot suddenly and then we have a plateau, a flat
spot. It feels like we’re not learning, right? We’re studying, we’re studying, we’re
studying, but we feel like we’re not improving.
And that happens for a while and then suddenly, boom, we go up again. We start
learning fast, fast, fast and then another plateau, right? We’re trying to learn and we’re
studying and we’re studying, but nothing seems to be happening, another flat part.
And then, boom, we go up again and we start learning very fast.
And that’s the normal process of learning. We have these times where we seem to be
improving very quickly and then we have plateaus where everything feels flat. It feels
like nothing’s happening. Even though we may be working very hard, we may be
studying very hard, but it feels like nothing’s happening.
This happens in sports a lot. So if you’re a runner and you’re training to run a race,
well when you first start to run, of course you improve very quickly. We always feel
like we’re improving fastest in the beginning when we’re just starting. Because we
know nothing so, of course, any improvement feels very big."
I was, just like you now, may be feel a little off and can't remember anything. But keep practicing and you well get better

I'm stuck on lesson "Target the same element with multiple jQuery Selectors".
Add the animated class to all elements with type button.
$(document).ready(function() {
$("button").addClass("animated");
$(".btn").addClass("animated shake");
$("#target1").addClass("btn-primary");
That is what I have but it won't mark off as complete because i need to only add one class with each of my three selectors?
Minh Anh Lam
@LMApro
May 22 2016 04:17
@CinderedSoul Only add ONE CLASS in your addClass() function call
$(".btn").addClass("shake"); // that's enough
Andres Bravo
@OmniBravo
May 22 2016 04:17
yeah
Minh Anh Lam
@LMApro
May 22 2016 04:18
because: "button", '.btn", '#target1" are targeting the same element, so you don't need to add class animated to the ".btn"
CinderedSoul
@CinderedSoul
May 22 2016 04:18
I didn't think you could do that for some reason - I thought it had to have animated in front of it. Lmao, thanks for the help (:
Minh Anh Lam
@LMApro
May 22 2016 04:18
@CinderedSoul adding "animated" class to ".btn" is redundant in this case.
when you call $('button').addClass('animated'), all the '.btn' has the class 'animated' already, so you dont need to call it any more

Your h2 element should use the font Lobster.
Your h2 element should degrade to the font Monospace when Lobster is not available.

Hello FreeCodeCamperHelpers - I'm having trouble with the Javascript task called 'Stand in Line', I've tried a few different arrangements of the code but can't quite seem to get it right. Do you think you could take a look to let me know where I'm going wrong? Thanks in advance - :
function nextInLine(arr, item) {
var removed = arr[0];
var newQueue = arr.push(item); arr.shift(0);
return removed;
}

// Test Setup
var testArr = [1,2,3,4,5];

// Display Code
console.log("Before: " + JSON.stringify(testArr));
console.log(nextInLine(testArr, 6));
console.log("After: " + JSON.stringify(testArr));

Do you understand how to comment out html elements ?

Programotion1

yes i think so, what happens when do the first 2 task they get a green check mark
then when i comment it checks the last 2 green and then put red Xs on the first 2
Greg Munker
@Gmunker
May 22 2016 04:44
So what your looking to do is comment out the link element for google fonts, so you will want to open your comment element <!-- before it, then close the comment after it with a --> So this way only the link is in the comment.

@magicmish before I show you the answer, can you explain your code? I mean what do you think the first three lines are doing? Just shoot your thoughts.
Magic Mish
@magicmish
May 22 2016 04:54
@Manish-Giri "arr.push(item)" does this add item to the end of the array?
@Manish-Giri "var removed = addNext[0]" - does this identify the first number in the array which will be removed in the next step - and therefore should be returned?
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
May 22 2016 04:55
@magicmish yeah, that’s correct. But arr.push(item); is a complete statement in itself, and it doesn’t return anything. So that should be your first line
@magicmish the first number in the array will be removed and returned by the .shift() function alone. And it doesn’t take any parameters. So you don’t need var removed = addNext[0];
@magicmish your second and final line would be return arr.shift();
Magic Mish

oh, i see you in main chat-- thats way above me, @shreyasgune , sorry! :pensive:
NixonRichard
@NixonRichard
May 22 2016 05:54
what s the different between them ?
rphares
@rphares
May 22 2016 05:55
well, bootstrap is very different-- its a way of aligning your page responsively,
html is content-- if you were looking to use that way, you'd be styling your page with css (most likely)
and there are other ways to position you page as well...
are you using bootstrap? (most people do, especially on that challenge)
NixonRichard

May 22 2016 05:56
i just one some words under my picture to describe it
yes i am
rphares
@rphares

@fox-tails
May 22 2016 07:36
Weird, if I specify a format on a font in the CSS @font-face directive, then CodePen doesn't even make the request from Google Drive for the file. If I take that out, it asks for the wrong format.
CodePen either asks for a 'woff' or it doesn't make the request.

May 22 2016 07:39
Right?
fox-tails
@fox-tails
May 22 2016 07:43
As it doesn't in any of mine -- and in fact the wrong request is going out. Many redirects later, it's asking for a WOFF file -- which isn't what's there on my Google Drive
As the referer asking for the font is coming from CodePen, I think that's the problem -- CodePen is accepting only WOFF files from Google but that's not what is on Google. So I'm stuck unless I can find a way to force the request from CodePen to ask for a TTF.
fox-tails
@fox-tails
May 22 2016 07:48
It's like CodePen doesn't understand the "format" part of a CSS @font-face directive, and so makes no request, and it always assumes WOFF.

Mostly regarding bootstrap and how to take any random stock picture and using it as a background cover for a div.
Like how on some modernly designed websites they have divs stacked together with different background colors so the site looks cohesive but good.

May 22 2016 10:30
@dtchosen .prop doesn't work because:
The dot notation only works if the property key string is a valid JS identifier (for example "12" and "lives left" are not) and you write the key after the dot: `var cat={clothes:"pants", "lives left":3}; cat.clothes; //returns "pants"`. Bracket notation works with keys that can be arbitrary strings `cat["lives left"]; //returns 3`, variables `var key="clothes"; cat[key]; //returns "pants"`, or expressions `cat["lives"+" "+"left"]; //returns 3`.
dtchosen
@dtchosen
May 22 2016 10:31
ok let me try that..

Also delete collection.prop; doesn't access the proper record id.
dtchosen
@dtchosen
May 22 2016 10:32
@Masd925
here is the one that works:

function updateRecords(id, prop, value) {
if (value !== "" && prop !== "tracks") {
collection[id][prop] = value;
} else if (value !== "" && prop === "tracks") {
collection[id][prop].push(value);
} else if (value === "") {
delete collection[id][prop];
}

return collection;
}
