quick question: when i'm using bootstrap, i can get knee-deep in divs and be uncertain as to where i am, even if i'm indenting everything as i go. is there anything that people who are more experienced do or use to keep track of what div they're currently in?
Manuel Tancoigne

@martyav yep, when I have big structures, I put a comment on block start an on block end
<!-- Super block -->

@oZmero -- this is the line to work on <a href="http://www.freecatphotoapp.com">cat photos</a>
and no, not at all, you are maybe 1/3 to 2/3, depending on your pace? to the first project (ROUGH ESTIMATES, guessing based on what I've seen of you, but could be way off :wink2: )
oh-- ill let @Svinthe answer you~ @oZmero :blush:
Umair Ahmad
@a-umair
May 24 2016 00:39
@oZmero rphares beat me to it, but you essentially have to place cat photos within the <a href="http://www.freecatphotoapp.com">cat photos</a> line
and then place the <a></a> element within a <p>View more </p>
I hope that makes some sense, the concept is referred to as 'nesting' in code-talk

GET is like when u write an URL on ur browser u can add query parameters

@bastienvinh Hi, the text under the image is will not center
Moisés Man

@aGirlWhoCodes to bypass cross-origin u need to make jsonP requests
Bastien VINH

@pmtaylor832 I had the same problems. First separate your title with your images with div class=row
Moisés Man
@moigithub
May 24 2016 01:15
@aGirlWhoCodes since ur API returns a json data.. is easier to use $.getJSON function instead $.ajax
Bastien VINH
@bastienvinh
May 24 2016 01:15
@pmtaylor832 next remove col-xs-14 because there are 12 max.
@pmtaylor832 After if text-center still not working. Use the offset.
@pmtaylor832 And for the tribute page start with col-md and nt col-xs because it’s for mobile
Lisa
@aGirlWhoCodes
May 24 2016 01:17
oke! I didn't know about the difference between json and jsonp but i read jsonp is json with padding.. When I tried the json in sandbox the content was 'padding' inside my searchword.. is that why?

your ID #orange-text should make the h1 orange,
but now it is making the h1 brown
you shouldn't make a separate .h1 class
you can delete .h1{ color:orange; }
and change the color of the ID #orange-text to orange

@Mrblue27 , you should have already made a button -- its already in your code:
<button type="submit">Submit</button>
is a button with the type submit
You want a button with the class btn
make a new button following the same format <button></button> but with the details from the instructions~

Hi, I cant figure out why this code wont work....

function bouncer(arr) {
  // Don't show a false ID to this bouncer.
  arr=arr.filter(filterOut);
  return arr;
}

function filterOut(varb)
{
  if(varb===false || varb===null || isNaN(varb) || varb==="" || varb===0)
  {
    return false;
  }
  else
  {
    return true;
  }
}

bouncer([7, "ate", "", false, 9]);

@sofrlowi - hello, fellow massachusetts-ian...
Did you get help on this?
This involves using two for loops, one that iterates through the objects in the collection, and the inner loop that checks properties in the source against each individual collection object. If you didn't get help - maybe this will help you? I'll be around here for a little while longer...

Basically, the code will filter out everything but 7 and 9.
And it should filter out everything but 7, 9, and ate.
I can't get it to work though.
Does anyone have an idea where I am going wrong?

:point_right: brownie points [wiki]

Brownie Points

The number beside your picture on Free Code Camp tells you how many Brownie Points you have.

A user profile picture next to a with Brownie Points score

There are two ways you can get Brownie Points:

  1. Complete challenges - you get one point per challenge you complete
  2. Help other campers in chat - each time you help another camper and they thank you (by typing "thanks @yourname"), you will get a point

Brownie Points help you look like the kind of person who codes a lot, shares relevant links, and helps people.

They also add to your Streak.

@felikiwi you need to use a = rather than a : in your a element
it should pass if you fix that
in HTML you use =, in CSS (<style>) you use :

May 24 2016 06:21
There is much more than that that needs to change... @Frances212 ,
it might be easiest if-- as great as it is to have everyone helping-- you got direction from just one person?
@coymeetsworld , you still got him? :blush:
Hmm, alright, seems dead, so-
First, @Frances212 - in this and any exercise,
there is always only ever ONE <style> section--
one <style> at the beginning of it, and one </style> at the end of it
Frances
@Frances212
May 24 2016 06:24
ok
rphares
@rphares
May 24 2016 06:24
so please delete the extra in the middle-- this whole line can go <style> h2 <style>
Frances
@Frances212
May 24 2016 06:25
i did
rphares
@rphares
May 24 2016 06:25
cool-- second-
the challenges are often very specific about testing for following the directions,
it asked us to put the link <link href="http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Lobster" at the top,
so please move that-- you can copy and paste-- to above <style>
Third-- dunno why, but you've got two .red-text { color: red; }
go ahead and delete the extra, only need the one :blush:
lemme know when you've done those things, and then we have just a bit more to do ~
Frances
@Frances212
May 24 2016 06:27
ok. I've done that.
rphares
@rphares
May 24 2016 06:28
okay-- before we do the last stuff,
i'd like to see your updated code BUT
i'd like you to try and format it--
explain format
CamperBot
@camperbot
May 24 2016 06:28

:point_right: code formatting [wiki]

Multi line Code

```js ⇦ Type 3 backticks and then press [shift + enter ⏎] (type js or html or css)
<paste your code here>,
then press [shift + enter ⏎]
``` ⇦ Type 3 backticks, then press [enter ⏎]

Single line Code

This an inline `<paste code here>` code formatting with a single backtick() at _start_ and _end_ around thecode`.

:pencil: read more about code formatting on the FCC Wiki

rphares
@rphares
May 24 2016 06:28
:point_up: this makes it MUCH easier for us to see whats wrong :blush:
you type three `
(the backtick is USUALLY near the esc key on most keyboards)
then shift + enter at the same time
a new row of three ` should appear below the one you made
paste your code in between the two lines-- NOT on the same lines,
each row of three ` needs its own line
you may have to press command + enter to send

May 24 2016 06:31
okay-- two things left,

we lost both of the

.red-text {
    color: red;
  }

But we needed one,

do you see at the top of your <style> section, where you have
<style> h2
    color: red;
  }
Frances
@Frances212
May 24 2016 06:32
yeah
rphares
@rphares
May 24 2016 06:32
please change that to:

Frances
@Frances212
May 24 2016 06:33
ok
rphares
@rphares
May 24 2016 06:33
then, finally, we are almost there
you need to give your h2 the font in the <style> section,
look at the p in your style section,
see how you have
  p {
    font-size: 16px;
    font-family: Monospace;
}
Frances
@Frances212
May 24 2016 06:34
yes
rphares
@rphares
May 24 2016 06:34
that is the same format (you dont need font-size for the h2, just font-family)
element {
font-family: FontName;
}
in your case, the element is h2, and the FontName should be Lobster
Frances
@Frances212
May 24 2016 06:35

ok...so if i have made a style element for the background color how can i get this into the form element?
rphares
@rphares
May 24 2016 06:39
so, in the style section , you make the id
#id-Name {
background-color: some-color;
}
and then, in the html, you apply the ID like you apply a class:
<element id = "id-Name">
so, in this case, your element would be your form-
and you can give any element lots of things t once-- classes, IDs, actions...
for example:
<form id = "id-Name" class = "some-fake-class" action = "/do-something">

May 24 2016 07:01
Hey everyone. Hope I'm in the right place to ask... I'm about to start building the tribute page, but I find the instructions to be pretty vague in terms of expected complexity and structure. For example, are we expected to stick to commands we've learned in the preceding sections or should we be looking up (and learning elsewhere) all sorts of new things to help us do what we are envisioning? Are we supposed to make a page that looks a lot like the example given or make up our own design? I mean, I could slap something together that is "functionally equivalent" (stated goal) in 10 minutes, but it wouldn't look all that great. It would just contain the information on the person and an external link. Or should I be spending hours trying to make it look "nice"? Sorry if I'm missing the point but the objective isn't very clear to me.
Omirona
@Omirona
May 24 2016 07:03

Hello all!

I am given an argument with an ([array] and some arguments outside it ). I need to create a filter where my array should not contain any of the objects contained in the argument outside the array.

I know I should be using a filter, and maybe use indexOf to achieve my goal- but my question is, how do I even begin to classify the two different pieces for my filter to work? the argument they gave me contains an array and an indefinite amount of arguments.

Would appreciate any help on this.

function destroyer(arr) {

  return arr;
}

destroyer([1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3], 2, 3);
Too afraid to google this as I might accidentally stumble on the full solution.
destroyer should return [1, 1]

May 24 2016 08:06
so you want to the cleanse the array ?
Daniel Goh
@gohdaniel15
May 24 2016 08:06
yes, the array [1,2,3,1,2,3] should be cleansed of 2s and 3s. leaving it with [1,1]
Rajdeep Biswas
@xploreraj
May 24 2016 08:07
in that case, without any library function (that i am not aware of), you need to iterate through the array, and pop those elements

Just add this code inside your document ready function:

$("button").addClass("animated bounce");

Note that we've already included both the jQuery library and the Animate.css library in the background so that you can use them in the editor. So you are using jQuery to apply the Animate.css bounce class to your button elements.

how to do the above?

Challenge Accessing Nested Arrays in JSON

As we have seen in earlier examples, JSON objects can contain both nested objects and nested arrays. Similar to accessing nested objects, Array bracket notation can be chained to access nested arrays.

Here is an example of how to access a nested array:

```javascript
var ourPets = {
"cats": [
"Meowzer",
"Fluffy",
"Kit-Cat"
],
"dogs": [
"Spot",
"Bowser",
"Frankie"
]
};
ourPets.cats[1]; // "Fluffy"
Description: You will be provided with an initial array (the first argument in the destroyer function), followed by one or more arguments. Remove all elements from the initial array that are of the same value as these arguments.
`
function golfScore(par, strokes) {
// Only change code below this line
if(strokes==1)
return "Hole-in-one";
else if(strokes<=par-2)
return "Eagle";
else if(strokes==par-1)
return "Birdie";
else if(strokes==par)
return "Par";
else if(strokes==par+1)
return "Bogey";
else if(strokes==par+2)
return "Double Bogey";
else if(strokes>=par+3)
return "Go home";
// Only change code above this line
}
// Change these values to test
golfScore(5, 9);
`
but it still cries errors, even though I get the expected results when changing values to test
@TeddyHugs I have not been introduced to LABELS yest in the HTML series. SO I figure there must be some other way as well..
May 24 2016 09:33
@sotirissmix , what seems to be the problem?
Sotiris
@sotirissmix
May 24 2016 09:33
The code is as I wrote
I get 4 errors,
1: golfScore(4, 1) should return "Hole-in-one!"
2: golfScore(1, 1) should return "Hole-in-one!"
3: golfScore(4, 7) should return "Go Home!"
4: golfScore(5, 9) should return "Go Home!"
I tried passing these values, and the results are correct, but the errors remain.
@sotirissmix , not entirely sure but try adding parenthesis on the conditions with operations, (strokes==(par-1))
hold on, let me try
nope, same errors.
operations take precedence anyway in logic
May 24 2016 09:37
ahh, try wrapping braces around everything depending on the sandbox they are using, could flip up a few errors?
