Hey guys I am stuck SUPER early on so sorry for the newbie question. I am trying to change the font size of my p element. Here is the instructions given,

Inside the same <style> tag that contains your red-text class, create an entry for p elements and set the font-size to 16 pixels (16px).

Here is my current code

<style>
.red-text {
color: red;
}
[font-size: 16px;
]
</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<p class="red-text">Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.</p>
<p> Purr jump eat the grass rip the couch scratched sunbathe, shed everywhere rip the couch sleep in the sink fluffy fur catnip scratched.</p>

What am I missing :(

when we style something by element (and p is the element you are trying to style)
we need the name before the {} in the style section
example:
<style>
.red-text {
color: red;
}
element {
font-size: ##px;
}
</style>

so, in that example, element is where you put the element type that you want to target
(p, h1, h2, img, etc)
AND,
did you notice-- we always use {} for that, not [] @icsamrand

@icsamrand :point_up:
basically, you type three `
(the backtick is usually near the esc key, on the same key as the ~ on most keyboards)
then shift + enter at the same time
then paste your code
then another row of three `
(they need their own line, NO code on the same line as the backticks )
then, press command + enter (mac) or control + enter (pc) to send~

second, when we make a class, we also have to apply it, @icsamrand

but we still need to tell it which parts we want to have those details
I will give an image the fake class called .fake-class in my fake style section:

Hey guys... Would somebody mind telling me why this isn't looping? I originally had both the if and else returning true and false respectively, but I realized having returns on both would break the loop after one condition or the other was met. Is this essentially the same thing? This is all within the context of a function in which output is defined as a var and both str1 and str2 are now defined as arrays. Thanks!
for (i = 0; i < str1.length; i++) {
   if (str1.indexOf(str2[i]) !== -1) {
     output = true;
   } else {
     output = false;
   }
    return output;

Here are the instructions for the lesson:
You should have a total of two images.
Your new image should be below your old one and have the class img-responsive.

Good day fellas! I've been on my portfolio page for about a month now, just when i thought i was finished, i noticed

1)My Albert Einstein quote text was overlapping from its container, I've tried fixing it several on several attempts but its not just working.

2)Also, my page suddenly has this white space in its left and right hand boundaries

3)The page fails to be responsive on a mobile view. Not totally though, but its not just giving the desired view on mobile devices.

@Josh-MG no. classes are for styles
you can create one anytime you want
h1 class="logo"
<div class="container">
etc.
a class is used to create a set of styles that you will reuse
if you are creating a set of styles you won't reuse, then give the html tag an id instead of a class
<h1 id = "logo">
etc

Retarded beginner here : I'm doing the basics and this CSS
<style>

``` (shift+enter for line break)
function convertToF(celsius) {
var fahrenheit;
// Only change code below this line
fahrenheit=celsius+8;
// Only change code above this line
return fahrenheit;
}
// Change the inputs below to test your code
convertToF(-30);
```

this is my answer

May 31 2016 04:01
okay, you have the code fahrenheit=celsius+8;
if i turn that back into a sentence,
that says
fahrenheit is celsius plus 8;
you want it to say
fahrenheit is celsius times 9/5 plus 32

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

Now you know three ways of targeting elements: by type: $("button"), by class: $(".btn"), and by id $("#target1").

Using .addClass(), add only one class at a time to the same element, three different ways:

Add the animated class to all elements with type button.

Add the shake class to all the buttons with class .btn.

Add the btn-primary class to the button with id #target1.

<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$("button").addClass("animated");
$(".btn").addClass("animated shake");
$("#target1").addClass("animated shake btn-primary");
});
</script>

Only add one class with each of your three selectors. - this is uncomplete.. Where is the mistake

Hi All
Was working on the jQuery course, in this topic
Target the same element with multiple jQuery Selectors
It states Only add one class with each of your three selectors
What does this mean?
Dan
@dcgoings
May 31 2016 04:15
read the next three lines
well, just execute the next three lines.
so add the "animated" class to the button element, add the "shake" class to the .btn element, and "btn-primary" class to the #target1 element.
Suhas Gopi

Peter B @P37er , "animated" only applies to the $("button")
Or the button type
rphares
@rphares
May 31 2016 04:22
yes, but look at the three you are adding classes to:
do your buttons have the class btn?
Thea
@tspears942
May 31 2016 04:22
("animated shake") applies to $(.btn)
rphares
@rphares
May 31 2016 04:22
is target 1 a button?
the classes are the things int the second set
so 'animated' is adding one class
animated shake is adding two

Brownie Points

The number beside your picture on Free Code Camp tells you how many Brownie Points you have.

A user profile picture next to a with Brownie Points score

There are two ways you can get Brownie Points:

  1. Complete challenges - you get one point per challenge you complete
  2. Help other campers in chat - each time you help another camper and they thank you (by typing "thanks @yourname"), you will get a point

Brownie Points help you look like the kind of person who codes a lot, shares relevant links, and helps people.

They also add to your Streak.

You can add Bootstrap to any app just by including it by adding the following code to the top of your HTML:

<link rel="stylesheet" href="//maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.1/css/bootstrap.min.css"/>

In this case, we've already added it for you to this page behind the scenes.

To get started, we should nest all of our HTML in a div element with the class container-fluid.

so identify where your HTML begins and ends and add <div> </div> tags. then give the div element (that you just made) the class "container-fluid"

Can I get some help on this please? I dont know howto get the prop names to compare eachother. Im really confused on this even though it looks easy
function whereAreYou(collection, source) {
  // What's in a name?
  var arr = [];
  // Only change code below this line
  var keys= Object.keys(source); //THe prop name of source
  var target =Object.keys(collection);//thge

  function match(value) {
  return value == keys;
}
  for (var i=0;i<target.length;i++){

var filtered = collection.filter(match);

  return target;
  }
  // Only change code above this line
}

whereAreYou([{ first: "Romeo", last: "Montague" }, { first: "Mercutio", last: null }, { first: "Tybalt", last: "Capulet" }], { first: "Montague", last: "Capulet" });

Multi line Code

<paste your code here>,
then press [shift + enter ⏎]

``` ⇦ Type 3 backticks, then press [enter ⏎]
Single line Code
This an inline `<paste code here>` code formatting with a single backtick() at _start_ and _end_ around thecode`.
Front End has plenty of JavaScript, and you should learn what they teach there before jumping to BackEnd and DataVis
np just be patient, I know going through some of the HTML/CSS can be trivial if you already are familiar with it
but if you already know HTML/CSS well you can breeze through it a little faster than others
and if you don't, then you'll need to know how it works to build the ziplines anyways
Coy Sanders
May 31 2016 06:20
yeah haha
if you already know it it shouldn't be too difficult, it'll be more like a refresher
html/css much easier than JavaScript
if this is Change the Color of Text, my mistake that part doesn't have you put CSS inside the style tags yet, so you don't need those. What you had before was right I think you don't even need the semi colon
try refreshing the browser @ilginsu I think what you had before was right
