How do you paste out the code in here?
John Tendik
@JohnTendik
Jun 02 2016 00:02
@smposc10 you're trying to add css on your html body tag
<body color:green>
that's not possible :D
you have to do <body>
smposc10
@smposc10
Jun 02 2016 00:03
oh
John Tendik
@JohnTendik
Jun 02 2016 00:03
then inside your <style> tag, where you have body { background-color: green;font-family: Monospace; } just add color:green; like they have with the background-color and font-family
smposc10
@smposc10
Jun 02 2016 00:04
so background color and just the color for the body is different?
John Tendik
@JohnTendik
Jun 02 2016 00:04
yes, color changes text color, and background color changes the background
try it out see how it works
smposc10
@smposc10

smposc10
@smposc10
Jun 02 2016 00:06
So if the color changes the text color, I didn't need to do the color:green; on my h1 element?
Oğuzhan
@kavanoz
Jun 02 2016 00:06
hello, i couldn't give an offset of begining of the paragrapg :/ i used <style>
p {text-indent: 50px;}
</style>
John Tendik
@JohnTendik
Jun 02 2016 00:06
@smposc10 correct, thats because css is cascading, meaning it will carry down
the body tag is the top most element
when you set a color to the body tag, all the text inside of it becomes green, unless you do other styling to combat it
smposc10
@smposc10
Jun 02 2016 00:08
And pretty much on my current code, I didn't need to put the opening and closing tag body before I could write my h1 text right?
John Tendik
@JohnTendik

im not sure i understand what you mean

The most common error on that one i see is people making a new a href line,
instead of nesting the one they already had
so then they have two, one nested, one not
and you cant pass if you have an untested <a href="http://www.freecatphotoapp.com">cat photos </a>

@malika321 I find it easier when you always put the closing curly bracket in its own line, that way it's more obvious when you are missing the ";". I tend to miss it a lot, and I find that this way everything is more uniform.

@danpu , which lesson?
I'm pretty sure you shouldnt have class1 class2 in your image tag, thats an example...
@codingisfun11 , in the image tag, you have a few issues
the class name should be in quotes, `"smaller-image"
and you still need the src=
as an example, i will give a fake image the class .example-class and the source www.example.com:
<img class= "example-class" src= "www.example.com"> @codingisfun11
Whoopsies, wrong tag, @danpu , on the second comment, that was for someone else (though your tag also seems to have some issues... name of lesson?)

This is your code:
  .thick-green-border {
    border-width: 10px;
    border-color: green;
    border-style: solid;
  }
this is mine:

  .thick-green-border{
border-color:green;
border-width:10px;
border-style:solid;
}
ignore the formatting and past mine over yours--

Hi Everyone! I'm new, getting started with HTML. I'm having some trouble with my code. I'm on "Use a CSS Class to Style and Element." I need to make my h2 element red and have the class red-text. I'll include my code below, but I thought I already satisfied these requirements. Can someone explain to me what I'm missing?

<style>
.red-text {
color: red;
}
</style>

<h2 style="color: red">CatPhotoApp</h2>

the HTML code is usually the larger framework, right? That is, first you introduce the HTML and then you put the CSS inside

first the CSS at the top and then the HTML

use css selectors to style elements

sorry, typo, @Shahidkhann !! :pensive:
so, the element is the element you want to target... in this case "you can create a CSS selector for all h2 elements. "
and someColor in my example is the color you want to set it to,

alright, a couple of things, lets go one by one :blush:
first, the image we are going to try and nest is this one: <img class="smaller-images" src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat"> @vishal-vikcy
but the class should be "smaller-image" notsmaller-images, please remove thes` at the end :blush:
next, to nest something, we put it in between the tags of the thing we want to nest it in,
in this case we want to put that image in between the <a> tags on the line above it, <p>Click here for <a href="#">cat photos</a></p>
so... our first <a> tag is <a href="#">
the image has to come after that
and our last </a> tag is</a>`</p>

hmm.. okay. so, i should know the reasoning behind this already.. but the Stand In Line challenge.. if you return a function call, that call is actually executed, correct? not just returning the answer but actually completing the operation?

specifically,

function nextInLine(arr, item) {
  arr.push(item);

}

this appears to be the simplest way to do it. but now im wondering.. what if i instead did

var removed = arr.shift();

and then returned remove? that works as well, right?

looks like they both work.. i actually got stuck at first, which is why i asked. when i first tried, i was attempting to do:

arr.push(item);
arr.shift();
return arr.shift();

but i guess that means it's shifting twice instead of once.

@codingisfun11 you put it in the wrong spot haha. you put it after cat photos, it needs to be after the " mark

:point_right: algorithm pig latin [wiki]

Algorithm Pig Latin

Problem Explanation:

  • You need to create a program that will translate from English to Pig Latin. Check the instructions for converting to Pig Latin from the initial description or the wiki page. It might not be obvious but you need to remove all the consonants up to the first vowel in the case there letter does not start with a vowel.

Hi all, This is a noob question. So I'm working on my profile, and I've finished setting up the basic menu and sections, now I'm working out how to add the content. I wanted a transparent background to the row, but found that that made everything i put in the row transparent, so saw a guide that said i should put the opaque row under the transparent one and push it up on top. It's working, but it looks mighty complicated. Does somebody mind looking at my html to my portfolio section (I've marked it with comments)? I've had to nest col's in cols as well, and just wanted to know if I'm making a pigs ear of this :)

Create a class called smaller-image and use it to resize the image so that it's only 100 pixels wide.

Note
Due to browser implementation differences, you may need to be at 100% zoom to pass the tests on this challenge.

@ankur1163 projection and tv (there is also print) thing is a type of device, for which the css rules will be used
Ankur sharma
@ankur1163
Jun 02 2016 11:10
so when i write tv
it means this rule will be applied when someone will view site on tv???
Dmitry Kholodilin
@dkfiresky
Jun 02 2016 11:10
if you want to change the web-site look only on tv kind of devices, then use the tv

Jun 02 2016 11:11
why I want to do this, when we have bootstrap?
Dmitry Kholodilin
@dkfiresky
Jun 02 2016 11:12
you may want to customize the look on different devices, bootstrap is just a skeleton for you to begin writing your own styles

I am stuck as well with addubng the text-center bootstrap to my h3 element. I tried adding the class with the text primary and I tried using a span class tag? I'm thinking it has something to do with the grid but I have never used bootstrap up until now?
