Nest two div class="col-xs-6" elements within your div class="row" element.

a) you only ever need one class= per tag,
so if you WERE trying to give a div many classes, you would add them like this:
<div class= "class1 class2 class3">

okay-- now you have two classes on one div still, @rubenlomakin -- but that is the right way to write, that, well done
however, you need to make many divs, not give one div many classes,
<div class="container-fluid">// open the div, DONT close it till the end. this one holds them all.
<h3 class="text-primary text-center">jQuery Playground</h3>// this might go in the div below, without instructions, not sure...
<div class="xxx">//open the div, DONT close it until things are inside it
//if the h3 is supposed to be in the div, it goes here, not where i have it
<div class="col-****">//open the first col div
//or the h3 might go here. again, dont know the directions without the lesson name...
</div>//closethe first col div
<div class="col-****">//open the second col div
</div>//close the second col div
</div>//close the "xxx" div
</div>//close the container-fluid div

@loweehahn The problem is this line: $input.val(""); - you're setting your button text and everything else around it to a blank. Try doing a console.log($input) to see how much HTML you're affecting. Give the search input field an ID="search" and try using that instead. $('#search').val("")

example:

element {

whichever element you need to target goes where i wrote element , and the size where i put ## :blush:

Hi all, so now I've been playing with bootstrap a week and I've gotten used to it a bit, I'm realising that actually you don't always want everything responsive... does anyone have any tips or links for how I'd basically have one set of min-width's for a viewport above say 800px wide and another for below that? from what i've learned, computer science is more well rounded and teaches theory, algorithms, etc. it can be utilized for a lot more. software eng is more specific, and takes SOME elements from computer science but not all. also, i think it's very hard to find a university that has a BS in software engineering unless it's a top tech school or something like that (at least in my research). comp sci is much more common.
CMR0711
@CMR0711
Jun 03 2016 02:36
@dcgoings so your saying that Software Engineering is more harder than Computer Science?. Btw, I did some research and the university that has a BS in SE and I'm planning to go there but first I need to have good grades at college so I can apply to go there
Dan
@dcgoings
Jun 03 2016 02:37
no, not harder. it's just more specific. with a CS degree, you can still be a software "engineer" or programmer. some doors may be open with a SE degree that would be closed with a CS degree, and vice versa.
and "harder" is relative. :) depends on the person!

Hey guys- super lost on this <div> element thing. I'm at the part where I'm supposed to assign a grey backround to my div element. I have this bit up in the <style> part:

ok so it basically just like breaks up for HTML into sections? And you can assign a style to that section only if the div is in therE?

if you're building a portfolio or something, you're not going to want (or can't have) all your pictures and paragraphs and buttons all in the same div or it would be chaos, right? div's allow you to section them off.

In the <a> tag the attribute name is href and its value was previously a link. By substituting the link/url for a '#' your link no longer goes to a url, but to the document that it is in (at least I'm pretty sure that's how it works). I just know that # doesn't take you anywhere. @xxtommydarkoxx

Curious what approach others took to utilizing the filter() method on the Seek & Destroy question. I've solved the problem, but was stumped as far as how to use filter(). I figure you have to work with the Arguments object to break it into a numberArray and a targetArray (local arrays to the destroy function). Then applying the filter() method doesn't cause issues with the Arguments object.

@t3h2mas I agree, your example will filter. However, how will that work if the goal is to remove 1, 4, and 5 from the array?
@t3h2mas More importantly, what is the approach when you don't know a) what values are in the array and b) what values to remove prior to calling the function?
Thomas Noe
@t3h2mas
Jun 03 2016 04:31
you'd iterate through the rest of the arguments and return false only
that's the magic of variables

Thomas Noe
@t3h2mas
Jun 03 2016 04:32
well you'd want to set something up that doesn't include the first arg anyway
all you'd have to do to scope it in is assign var DONOTWANT = (THE REST OF THE ARGUMENTS)
then DONOTWANT is available in the callback

@kleve3013 you need to create a separate rule for the font-size property
<style>

}
p {
 font-size: 16px;
}

@pipwarrior if the server is located on a remote host, it could be an absolute URL, like http://yourserver.com/server.php
if it’s on the same host as your website, it could be a relative URL, like as in the example
/submite-cat-photo
@kleve3013 sure thing!

@pipwarrior you specify certain attributes on your HTML elements, like name, and value. These attributes get picked up by the server.
For instance

<input type=“text” name=“user-data”>

When server side code is written, it looks for the element with the name attribute’s value as user-data, and value’s value will be what the user typed into the inputfield
That’s how user data is processed

Give your image a border width of 10px.
Give your image a border style of solid.
The border around your img element should be green.

this is assignment

You can make elements into links by nesting them within an a element.

Nest your image within an a element. Here's an example:

<a href="#"><img src="https://bit.ly/fcc-running-cats"></a>

Remember to use # as your a element's href property in order to turn it into a dead link.

Once you've done this, hover over your image with your cursor. Your cursor's normal pointer should become the link clicking pointer. The photo is now a link.

so i dont understand how to properly nest it in an a element....

   <p>Joe Pass (born Joseph Anthony Jacobi Passalacqua, January 13, 1929 – May 23, 1994) was an American virtuoso jazz guitarist of Sicilian descent. He is generally considered to be one of the greatest jazz guitarists of the 20th century. His extensive use of walking basslines, melodic counterpoint during improvisation, use of a chord-melody style of playing and outstanding knowledge of chord inversions and progressions opened up new possibilities for the jazz guitar and had a profound influence on later guitarists.
   <br/>In addition to his extensive solo work, Pass is remembered for his long-term partnerships with singer Ella Fitzgerald and pianist Oscar Peterson.</p>

Apply the red-text class to your h2 and p elements.

don't use a period, like this:

@96street Those are 2 totally different things. JSON is a way of discribing an object in a Javascript syntax and AJAX is a way to communicate with a backend webserver
@96street Those 2 work togehter... AJAX is your channel of communication and JSON is the data format used to exchange your data

@96street That example uses jQuerys ajax method and then parses the result json to a javascript object. Some methods like jquerys getJSON make the parsing automatically.

@96street the structure can be like this

function getQuote(){
    $.getJSON("http://quotesondesign.com/wp-json/posts?filter[orderby]=rand&filter[posts_per_page]=1&callback=", function(a) {

      $(".quote p").html(a[0].content);
      $("span").html('- ' + a[0].title);
      console.log(a);

  });
}

//here is where you add event listener to buttons
$('#getQuote').on('click', function() {
             //call the getQuote function here
    });

//call the getQuote function here once so you have a quote when the user first open the page

Here is part of my code: $("#target1").parent("").css("background-color", "red");

when I click the Run Tests button, nothing happens. is there an issue with the syntax for the id?
