you need to change your hyperlinks @emmanuelledebarge
another thing too for bootstrap you only want to declare container-fluid on one div
Emmanuelle DeBarge
@emmanuelledebarge
Jun 04 2016 00:07
@coymeetsworld ok gotcha
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jun 04 2016 00:07
but for hyperlinks what you can do is change hyperlink to #something, and give an element in your code that id
so like
<a href="#about">About</a>
...
...
...
<div class="row" id="about">

</div>
something like that

Your p element should contain the first few words of the provided additional kitty ipsum text.????
Eric Bezanson
@ericbezanson
Jun 04 2016 01:38
@amycunninghamm no prob a good practice is to make both start and end tags first then create space between them and write whatever you need to inside so you know there is no issues with the tags. One really cool feature you can use is if you just type the name of the element, for example "p" and then press tab it automatically completes the tags for you :)
@joypatel04 you have to copy and past some of the text they provide and place it inside the tags
<p> text goes here </p>

Hello there. I don't understand the use of the CSS :

<style>
.red-text {
color: red;
}
</style>

Doesn't something like this give the same result :

<style>
h2 {
color: red;
}

?
Both times it was used to color every h2 element but the second version I typed here just looks shorter to me so I don't see the use of the second one. But it probably just does something different that I didn't understand.

(forgot the </style> in the second one obviously)

@DCFOS true you can just write h2 and give it styles but the point here is to teach you to use classes for styling .Suppose you want to style 5 different elements like <div>,<span>,etc. so you can easily do that using a single class and would not have to style 5 different elements

Good start, @gabriel787 --next,
we need to apply that class to the image,
when we make a class, FIRST we tell the style section the details,
you have done that , that the .smaller-image {width: 100px;} part
but, we also have to tell it which elements we want to give those details to
by applying the class
i will write an example, and give an image the class example-class

Using jQuery, you can change the text between the start and end tags of an element. You can even change HTML markup.

jQuery has a function called .html() that lets you add HTML tags and text within an element. Any content previously within the element will be completely replaced with the content you provide using this function.

Here's how you would rewrite and emphasize the text of our heading:

$("h3").html("<em>jQuery Playground</em>");

jQuery also has a similar function called .text() that only alters text without adding tags. In other words, this function will not evaluate any HTML tags passed to it, but will instead treat it as text you want to replace with.

Change the button with id target4 by emphasizing its text.

When we write css, we write it in the <style> section first. For elements, the format is like this:

<style>
element {
color: blue;
}

</style>

<element>Text goes here</element>

@b5hcr08
in what you sent, you dont have an h2 element anymore, you have moved some of it in the style section,

i would reset the lesson,
you dont need to change the html--

Does anyone know if there are any special prescripts for doing the data visualization section? Is react something I should learn first? If so what is react? Do I need to know what "sass" is?

@I-cant-remember Knowing sass is helpful. If you have the basics down then learning scss or sass is a plus far as productive

@Frostyjayy Should I try to learn sass, react and D3 on my own and do the projects or do the back end stuff first?

@I-cant-remember, react is a framework. It is basically Javascript that includes HTML in a way. This allows you to use many of the benefits of Javascript programming while still putting out basic HTML. It has other benefits that are also unique to the framework.

If anyone cares to know, I figured out my problem with adding the new property with an array...I had to first add the new property and assign it a blank array. Then I was able to push the value passed to the function onto the array. Is there a more efficient way to do this -- to add the property and assign the value to the array in one step?

Your buttons should all be nested within the same div element with the class row.
Each of your Bootstrap buttons should be nested within its own div element with the class col-xs-4.
Make sure each of your button elements has a closing tag.

@barisbasar otherwise try this .gray-background {
background-color: gray;
}
</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<p>Click here for <a href="#">cat photos</a>.</p>

<a href="#"><img class="smaller-image thick-green-border" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back" src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat"></a>

<div>
<p>Things cats love:</p>
<ul>
<li>cat nip</li>
<li>laser pointers</li>
<li>lasagna</li>
</ul>
<p>Top 3 things cats hate:</p>
<ol>
<li>flea treatment</li>
<li>thunder</li>
<li>other cats</li>
</ol>
</div>
<div class="gray-background"></div>

You can make elements into links by nesting them within an a element.

Nest your image within an a element. Here's an example:

<a href="#"><img src="https://bit.ly/fcc-running-cats"></a>

Remember to use # as your a element's href property in order to turn it into a dead link.

@CodeNewbee You're using an API over http, not https so there's a security risk, in theory. Most browsers you have to explicitly allow that.
