Filling in the blanck with a place holder text
esopp
@esopp
Jun 11 2016 00:04
@ccontrast I think in my solution I just replaces matches of A-Z with a dash, and then [the matching character].toLowerCase()
latifawudu
@latifawudu
Jun 11 2016 00:04
Do I use the whole text?
I am asked to use the first few words.

Jun 11 2016 00:12
@ccontrast you are on a right track, i dont think you actually need a callback in second replace
that second replace should be used to select small-big letter composition
and you can make spaces between them with $1-9 regex properties

@jarenescueta731 I have never had much luck with delay() in JQuery, but what has worked for me in similar situations was to start an element off with the css display attribute set to display: none, and then make it visible with show(). While show() is of course not the same function as fadeIn(), they seem similar enough that it might be worth a try.

if you want to make it like that:
if value is less than 20 and more than 10 blablabla you need to use && operator which is not what you do in this exercise

follow logic i presented in first message:

If value is less than 10 or more than 20: return outside; all else: return inside

Hey guys, newb here. Just a brief question on jQuery selecting elements using the ".target:nth-child()" function. How does it know just to target the wells, and nothing else? Because there is nothing else with a second child?
I don't know how to paste a pic of the code

@silver537 115
iccomq
@iccomq
Jun 11 2016 01:51
challenga number is irrelevant, basically nth child selector
in jquery is used as nth child in css
you specify an element and its siblings
give a number
and it specifies that particular child
so if you have two elements
that have children who are .target
(have target class)
you are selecting both groups of targets and you chose second ones
bam, .target number 2 in both wells jump
Ryan Pawloski
@RPawloski
Jun 11 2016 01:55
how is the target selection done, as in, how does it select the wells as the target?
are the buttons the only things that can jump?
iccomq
@iccomq
Jun 11 2016 01:55
it doesnt select wells per se
parent element is there only to show that all elements inside that have class target are siblings
that what counts for selector atleast
that, particular one

@RPawloski

haha funny, I opened the chat menu to ask exactly the same question as Ryan. I was here sitting and wondering how that nth selector worked, too.
iccomq
@iccomq
Jun 11 2016 01:58
you can make
$(".target:nth-child(3)") for third child to jump
or
$(".target:nth-child(5n)") for every fifth one
or
$(".target:nth-child(odd)") for odds
and so on

@iccomq Hey Icc, there is something I didn't understand exactly. So in the ".target:nth-child(x)", the word target there is the parent? Does that mean that if i had various classes called Test1, test2, test3, that would make the code: $(".Test:nth-child(1)") work?

nth child ckeckes if elements .target have the same parent, it sees there are 2 groups of targets, and then selects both sencond child
basically, nth child, cares now many parents there are not what they are
not why they are

hmm doesn't seem to be the case? these were the instructions: Now you know three ways of targeting elements: by type: $("button"), by class: $(".btn"), and by id $("#target1").

Using .addClass(), add only one class at a time to the same element, three different ways:

Add the animated class to all elements with type button.

Add the shake class to all the buttons with class .btn.

Add the btn-primary class to the button with id #target1.

When you are targeting a class in CSS its not necessary to have tag you're targeting with it.

                        { "options.$.count" : 1 },
                    $push :
                        { voters : { username: req.username, ipaddress: ipaddress } }
                },
                { new: true },
                function(err, poll) {
                    if (err) throw err;

                    if( poll === null )
                        res.status(200).json({submitted: false, message: "You already voted!"});
                    else
                        res.status(200).json({submitted: true, message: "Vote has been submitted."});
                });

I had it working when I just had voters as ip addresses, but now I save the ip address and the username. Can't seem to get it working.

rphares
@rphares
Jun 11 2016 03:45
you put the input inside the <form> element
use the input already in the code (bottom line, i think)
and wrap the form around it~
iccomq
@iccomq
Jun 11 2016 03:45
@umihuss elements have their opening and closing tags, nested element is element between opening and closing tags of another element

iccomq
@iccomq
Jun 11 2016 04:21
well the habit of posting a code first will grow on them, and it brings more people who treat others as problem solving bots, dehumanizes chat
also, that habit given enough people, will clutter chat

iccomq
@iccomq
Jun 11 2016 04:24
its my welp room and i am paging @0x0936
you see, for me help room was always social to some point, but i reazlized that rooms that were not social before are now , 'post codepen watcha think"
its even more frustrating, before you can do this room was for people who cant really handle frustration
and learning how to manage frustration is a big part of learning how to code
rphares
@rphares
Jun 11 2016 04:26
and the one thing that make me upset is watching people be all dismissive or agro. Not wanting to cause fights with people who are routinely outta line but (for unknown reasons to me) tolerated... just seems practical to set 'good' habits~
iccomq
@iccomq
Jun 11 2016 04:26
now its post-codepen room
rphares
@rphares
Jun 11 2016 04:26

BUT
its rare to see anyone post in that way anymore, so i suppose no harm, no foul?
iccomq
@iccomq
Jun 11 2016 04:27
its self propelling right now, people dont post stuff that belongs to you can do this couse of codepens and, other way around
i guess, deleting that room and creating new one, with name that presents topic, more straight forward
would help?
i dont know honestly

:point_right: code formatting [wiki]

Multi line Code

```js ⇦ Type 3 backticks and then press [shift + enter ⏎] (type js or html or css)
<paste your code here>,
then press [shift + enter ⏎]
``` ⇦ Type 3 backticks, then press [enter ⏎]

Single line Code

This an inline `<paste code here>` code formatting with a single backtick() at _start_ and _end_ around thecode`.

@iccomq hey :wave: :) tryin' to catch up on the dialog. I don't have a strong opinion of whether help rooms should or shouldn't be social. My weak view is that social is fine in small quantities, so as to not alienate others looking for help. I'm not as active in gitter as I was, once upon a time. I'll pop in to main if I see rphares or qmikew, but otherwise just lurk
rphares
