@elektra8875 Yes, you would add that in the style section.
#cat-photo-form {

cat-photo-element {

background-color: green;

@mpk0987 image inside the link
@elektra8875 Because it's set to form, and the lesson requires it to be called form
@elektra8875 You can name ids whatever you want, and they should be unique. The lesson just asks for form: "Give your form element the id of cat-photo-form"

hnry
@hnry
Jun 14 2016 00:44
@ZoeDoucette yea, learning CSS alone is still needed, because a lot of times you want bootstrap to cover all the defaults, and then you'd write your own CSS to make it look pretty, or override certain things
@evan153 yea it adds/counts

@hnry yea i just have to make a function tat returns.. its kind of confusing

@hnry If only one argument is provided, then return a function that expects one argument and returns the sum.

For example, addTogether(2, 3) should return 5, and addTogether(2) should return a function.

Calling this returned function with a single argument will then return the sum:

var sumTwoAnd = addTogether(2);

sumTwoAnd(3) returns 5.

@123xylem i will break down the challenge for you in this way...

  1. check both arguments to see if they are numbers, otherwise return undefined
  2. check if there is a second argument, if not return a closure function
  3. so meaning both arguments, add them and return the sum

that is all you need to do for the challenge, the key is knowing what a closure is and how to write one

@123xylem well it never works because sumTwoAnd doesn't ever get called
@123xylem but the other things we discussed is looking better :+1:
@123xylem also you don't need else if(typeof arguments[1]==="number"){ because at this point arguments[1] is a number since it passed the first check

Hey could someone help me out? I'm on the "Sorted Union" challenge, which recommends using Array.reduce(). I tried this out (newarr is as array with various datatypes):
return newarr.reduce(function(a,b){
if(a.indexOf(b) < 0)
return a.push(b);
else
return a;
},[]);
but I'm getting the error "a.indexOf is not a function". Can we not use indexOf on arrays?
er, to clarify, the intent of this reduce function is to eliminate duplicates while maintaining the sort of the original array newarr

there isn't much anyone can do about it stalling-- if you have that sort of glitch, refreshing and running tests again should sort it. if it doesn't, you can check the map-- if you have passed the lesson, it should be marked as complete and you can select the next lesson manually. however, the most common reason it won't let you proceed is a code error-- if you'd like us to check that, please tell us the name of the lesson and paste you formatted code :blush:

@idontknow12399 , one should be exactly like the example--
<label><input type="radio" name="indoor-outdoor"> Indoor</label>
the other, should be like the one i pasted from the example,
but NOT have the word Indoor
it should have the word Outdoor
you only have one in your code, and you have added details (type="text" placeholder="cat photo URL" required) that it didn't ask fgor-- i would reset the lesson, and just add those two, exactly like the example (with the right text) at the bottom, @idontknow12399
@gregpereira , you need to define the ID in the <style> section,
you can do that the same way you do for a class, but with # at the beginning, not .

.gray-background {
background-color: gray;

#example-id {

see what i added to the bottom, @gregpereira ? NOW, if i applied that id to an element using

the form would have a purple background.

use that format to make the ID #cat-photo-form in your <style> section~

Hi, anyone can explain why k = 2 works for the below code but not k = argument[1] when they are the same value?
function destroyer(arr) {
  // Remove all the values
  return arr.filter(test);
}

function test(val){
  var k = arguments[1];
  if(val===k){
    return false;
  }
else return true;
}

destroyer([1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3], 2, 3);

Jun 14 2016 05:04
yup, no idea how arguments work so..
hnry
@hnry
Jun 14 2016 05:04
@xyngC how do you figure its the same value? it's not
it's actually undefined
xyngC
@xyngC
Jun 14 2016 05:04
hmm.. but if I return arguments[1] it give me 2?
hnry
@hnry
Jun 14 2016 05:04
wait no, it's actually the index
@xyngC it gives you 2 in the destroyer function, but in the test function it would be the index of the array
arguments[1] is "the second argument of the current function" which is test and which is called by arr.filter(test)
xyngC
@xyngC
Jun 14 2016 05:09
so does that mean test() doesn't get the rest of the arguments (2, 3) carried in?

well first of all, j<=3 doesn't seem right. cause that's saying the sub array would only have 4 index's. when in reality it can have n number of index's

@gregpereira For one open DIV you must found a closing one. You should read instructions one more time
rphares
@rphares
Jun 14 2016 05:55

something like

<div class="row">
<div class= "col-xs-**">//opens one div, DONT CLOSE IT YET, put the input inside
<input type="text" class="form-control" placeholder="cat photo URL" required>
</div>//CLOSE the new div
   <div class="col-xs-**">//opens another div, DONT close it yet
 <button type="submit" class="btn btn-primary"><i class="fa fa-paper-plane"></i> Submit</button>
</div>//closes the div you just made
</div>//closes the row

@gregpereira -- check the example above and comments, the inputs are the existing ones in your code, that it wants you to nest.

to nest it, you open one before the item, and close it after, so the thing is sandwiched inside,

silver537
@silver537
Jun 14 2016 05:59
yea. im trying to work on your code since it's different than mine.
but i noticed the problem. you have to insert biggest needs to be inside the for loop. and take away the push. you don't need it.
mayankmohan1992
@mayankmohan1992
Jun 14 2016 06:01
but the first for loop is there to iterate through all subarrays..isnt it??? @chaitanyaashtekar
silver537
@silver537
Jun 14 2016 06:01
no. it iterates the main array. @mayankmohan1992
the second for loop iterates the subarray.
mayankmohan1992
@mayankmohan1992
Jun 14 2016 06:02
yeah i meant that only...
silver537
@silver537
Jun 14 2016 06:03
but your second for loop inputs the biggest number into your bigger variable.
@mayankmohan1992 try this test
largestOfFour([[13, 27, 18, 26], [4, 5, 1, 3], [32, 35, 37, 39], [1000, 1001, 857, 1]]);
just replace your largest of four with that :point_up_2:
and you'll be able to see your mistake @mayankmohan1992

my code is not processing 2nd subarray... @silver537
silver537
@silver537
Jun 14 2016 06:12
exactly because bigger needs to go back to zero. since your first sub array is 27. its comparing 27 with the second subarray. so it too is going to be 27 instead of 5.
UNLESS bigger is zero, so that it will compare zero with the second subarray.

@mikedorsey1021 vertical centering things with css only is kind of hard unless you use new features like flexbox
if you know the height of the content and its fixed, then you can of course just do it simply but subtracting etc.

hey guys I'm working through the Bootstrap section rn and it mentioned that Bootstrap is responsive so that it adjusts to the width of various screens. But if we use col-xs-* wouldn't it always appear "xs"? I pulled it up on my laptop and everything is small so it's only taking up the left side. How would you make a webpage so that it displays appropriately on all screen sizes?

Lim Yuen Hoe

Jun 14 2016 08:00
I think you're looking for href="#". that makes the link not "go to another page", if that's what you mean by "dead link"
Ishtmeet Singh
@IshtmeetSingh
Jun 14 2016 08:00
@scshepard It means, no link.
Lim Yuen Hoe
@jasonmoofang
Jun 14 2016 08:01
"changing href to #" probably meant changing the VALUE of href to "#", so href="#"
J. Wiles
@ForMM82
Jun 14 2016 08:01
I think that's what it is. The value. Let me try that.
scshepard
@scshepard
Jun 14 2016 08:02
Using "<a href="#"> will direct back to the same page; <a href="#someid"> refers to the same page, but with an id of element of "someid".
In an anchor element, one attribute is "href"; the value is what is enclosed within the quotes.

@LuisDuong at line 36, and 42.
please remove both of those tags, you're creating an ordered list, not an unordered list.
Remove these

Ishtmeet Singh
@IshtmeetSingh
Jun 14 2016 08:29
@LuisDuong Actually you have to create an ordered list and an unordered list separately. Like this
<ul>
  <li>cat nip</li>
  <li>laser pointers</li>
  <li>lasagna</li>
</ul>
<p>Top 3 things cats hate:</p>
<ol>
  <li>Dog</li>
  <li>Water</li>
  <li>Human</li>
</ol>
@LuisDuong you have to create a new ordered list, outside the previous unordered list.

Compound Assignment With Augmented Addition
Convert the assignments for a, b, and c to use the += operator.
// Only modify code below this line

a = 3 += 12;
b = 9 += b;
c = c += 7;
whenever I put += it ssays something's wrong?!?!
& it requires me to do so

@coderNoob Quincy and berkeley said in the latest summit that, they're working on getting the React editor work as expected but that's a lot of stuff and will take a bit of time. Till then you could go through udemy's course, that's really great to get things started.
