plz help me Use the Bootstrap Grid to Put Elements Side By Side Your buttons should all be nested within the same div element with the class row.
Each of your Bootstrap buttons should be nested within its own div element with the class col-xs-4.
Make sure each of your button elements has a closing tag.
Make sure each of your div elements has a closing tag.
<div class="row col-xs-4">

$("#websitephotos > yourChildren").css("border-style","solid");

will not work becouse its not how child selector works, you are supposed to put actual children names in place of 'yourChildren'

 $(document).ready(function(){
     $(".img-style").css("border-style","solid");
  $(".img-style").css("border-color","white");
  $(".img-style").css("border-width","20px");

not quite understanding what I'm doing wrong. I tried creating that tribute page in the codepen env. but then it doesn't come out right. mainly the styling from the bootstrap code. Does anyone know how to correct the issue regarding javascript closures and loops? This simple function doesn't run. I asked about it in Javascript forum and some nice people sent me some explanatory links -- but the explanations were way over my head.

Can anyone help me get this to work, please?

for (i = 1; i <= 6; i++) { setTimeout(function() { document.getElementById("section-" + i).innerHTML = "Swap out text (" + i + ")"; }, i * 1000)(i); }
Thanks in advance. :)

here take a look at this https://api.jquery.com/addclass/
.addClass( className )
className
Type: String
One or more space-separated classes to be added to the class attribute of each matched element.
the addClass function expects a String in there
for className
ZoeDoucette
@ZoeDoucette
Jun 15 2016 02:26
why is it expecting a string?

a string is like when you say class="btn btn-primary" those are two classes?
2 classes in a string?
sorry :S im confused
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jun 15 2016 02:27
yes, String is just text
Dylan
@dhcodes
Jun 15 2016 02:27
@ZoeDoucette a string is just the type of data, meaning it's text
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jun 15 2016 02:27
it comes from a "string" of characters put together
ZoeDoucette
@ZoeDoucette
Jun 15 2016 02:27
hmmmm
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jun 15 2016 02:27
its a common datatype in many different languages
but anyways, thats the datatype the addClass asks for
so you could either put a literal String in the function:
$("button").addClass("animated");
ZoeDoucette
@ZoeDoucette
Jun 15 2016 02:29
ok..
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jun 15 2016 02:29
or put a variable in there that references a String:
var classToAdd="animated";
$("button").addClass(classToAdd);
first way is better for this exercise, that's just a demonstration right here
if you removed that first line though, the code wouldn't work because the code would interpret classToAdd as a variable, but since it hasn't been defined it has no value and the addClass function doesnt know what to do:
// var classToAdd="animated"; commented out
$("button").addClass(classToAdd);
it would be like if I told you to add X class to the button, but you don't know what X means unless I told you what it was
ZoeDoucette
@ZoeDoucette

Coy Sanders

it is a lot to take in
but for now for the challenge you just need to put those classes inside of quotes to get it to work
Ghost
@ghost~56a80c91e610378809be5d28
Jun 15 2016 02:34
@ZoeDoucette If you're still confused on string...
A string is a variable type and it's basically a word "string"
An integer is another variable type and its just a whole number
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jun 15 2016 02:34
add change addclass to addClass
you'll get more into JavaScript stuff later on @ZoeDoucette

Sondra Wallace
@Joyce12
Jun 15 2016 02:37
Okay
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jun 15 2016 02:37
that would work if you wanted the red-text class to have font-size of 16px, but you don't want that
you want anything inside a p tag to have font-size 16px
Ghost
@ghost~56a80c91e610378809be5d28
Jun 15 2016 02:38
@yousufnahian a dead link looks like this
<a href= "#">text</a>
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jun 15 2016 02:38
so if you wanted to style an h2 tag you would do it like this:
.red-text {
  color: red;
}

h2 {
  font-size: 16px;
}
notice no dot at beginning of h2

Create a second p element after the existing p element with the following kitty ipsum text: Purr jump eat the grass rip the couch scratched sunbathe, shed everywhere rip the couch sleep in the sink fluffy fur catnip scratched.

Inside the same <style> tag that contains your red-text class, create an entry for p elements and set the font-size to 16 pixels (16px).

Multi line Code

<paste your code here>,

you type three `

then, shift + enter at the same time for a new line
paste your code
then, shift + enter at the same time for another new line
then three more `

sometimes you can't figure out what is wrong. The other day did some node express server coding. It worked. Save it went to bed. The next day it didn't work, it threw some error that didn't make any sense to me. Narrowed it down. Code looked fine. Eventually I erased the file and wrote it from scratch. Now it works again but I have no idea what was wrong.

@hanselsissi the instructions say gray-background with background-color of gray. But you have green-background with background-color of green. Also you need a dot before the gray-background because it is a class: .gray-background <---notice the dot. And make sure you have add the gray-background class to your div. <div class="gray-background"> notice this time without the dot because of the class= which indicated it is a class

@skyevdw You need to replace the link http://www.freecatphotoapp.com with a # symbol
like href="#"
@In7ro You start by dividing your page into containers, rows and columns using the bootstrap grid system.

@In7ro depends on what you want to do. I have a background in security and learned C as my first language

@In7ro It is a good thing to start out with, since you can immediately see the results. Another language you might consider is python
stricknein

for web development, yes I think it is a very good language to learn starting out

stricknein
@stricknein
Jun 15 2016 08:04
@In7ro python is good as well, but there is soo much abstraction in both those languages I usually always recommend people learning C that realyl want to understand programming at the lwo levels. Then learn assembly. But if you want to focus on web then ya javascript python ruby php are all good to learn
@In7ro you should expect to learn at least 5-7 languages, and trust me it will be easier once you get going and if you stick with it
