@TheGiver14 Woow... i was making that so much harder than it had to be... for some reason i thought i had to define "container-fluid" the way i had to with all the other classes... something like .thick-green-border {
border-color: green;
border-width: 10px;
border-style: solid;
border-radius: 50%;} thanks so much Home Slice! :)

Hi I'm stuck on 54

Create a CSS class called pink-text that gives an element the color pink.

Give your h1 element the class of pink-text.

here's what I have but something is wrong:

<style>
body {
background-color: black;
font-family: Monospace;
color: green;
.pink-text {
color: pink;
}
}
</style>

<h1 class="pink-text">Hello World!</h1>

the text is not pink as a result

@scatman5 not a problem at all! Just remember that closing tags always have the / in front of the tag. </a> should always be the way that it is constructed. and "href" is kind of like a declaration or a class. You want to keep it between the brackets <a href="link here">anchor text</a>

Ji Baik
@JiBaik
Jun 29 2016 01:08
@alchermd youre supposed to try to filter out falsy values
there's no need for your bad array
Ji Baik
@JiBaik
Jun 29 2016 01:08
JS allows for you to test truthy/falsy in a simple if() test
the items inside your bad array will all fail the if test
so you can just return the ones that pass
so if(0) will be false while if('') will return true
likewise if(null) will be false while if(1) will return true
sorry i meant if('l')

Ji Baik
@JiBaik
Jun 29 2016 01:12
b/c youre returning true or false in that comparison
not a value
youre returning "does indexof(x) == -1" which would return a boolean
not a value for your filter

@alchermd actually forget my last point I'm wrong about the boolean part
you actually want a true/false
sorry i havnt used filter in a while
the reason it fails however
is that in JS NaN != NaN I beleive
Santiago Gómez

just in case:

function smallestCommons(arr) {

  var secArr = [];

@alchermd each value is test through the array. if the test returns true, the value is added, if it returns false it's not added.
inside the source code keep in mind that your anonymous function in filter is "predicate" in http://underscorejs.org/docs/underscore.html

So I'm a bit confused with the creating a grey background

.grey-background {
background-color: grey;
}

<div class="grey-background">
<p>Things cats love:</p>
<ul>
<li>cat nip</li>
<li>laser pointers</li>
<li>lasagna</li>
</ul>
<p>Top 3 things cats hate:</p>
<ol>
<li>flea treatment</li>
<li>thunder</li>
<li>other cats</li>
</ol>
</div>

it's creating the grey background as it should
but not giving me credit for it

Hi all, I was wondering if someone can help me understand splice; I'm working on the challenge, "where do i belong?" and I can't figure out why splice is returning an empty array. My code is here: https://jsfiddle.net/42qp5Lto/2/
i have comments in my code to further explain what i'm expecting/hoping to be returned
hnry
@hnry
Jun 29 2016 04:25
@sansae you are splicing and nothing gets deleted
so its an empty array
also you don't have to specify a sorting function, it automatically sorts it the way you want when you [].sort()
Kent Saeteurn
@sansae
Jun 29 2016 04:31
@hnry Thank you so much for the response hnry. I guess this is where I don't get how exactly splice works. Looking at the simple example in w3schools (http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/jsref_splice.asp), it seems they didn't delete anything, yet the return was an array with all original values, plus the newly inserted values

Jun 29 2016 04:33
@sansae they say the result of fruits is that, not what is returned from splice
@sansae also that's a horrible example of trying to accomplish that
and also, for what it looks like you're trying to do, you don't need splice or anything fancy, just add the items onto your array, and array.sort() and you're done
Kent Saeteurn
@sansae

@nicolindsay92 ok so they don't want you to set it to a class, scratch that, they want you to set it on every "p" element so the css looks like:
p {
  font-size: 16px;

Jun 29 2016 04:42
@hnry Just to clarify, the challenge is called "Where do I belong?" and I've solved it already (https://jsfiddle.net/42qp5Lto/4/); it's just that in my attempt to solve it, I stumbled across that issue of not being able to return the desired array after using splice INSIDE THE FOR LOOP; for some strange reason, when using splice on the sortedArr outside of the for loop, it works. I just don't understand that part

@sansae splice modifies the array you are calling splice on, so myarray.splice(...) myarray would be changed, and while you're looping over myarray things will start being weird since the index will shift and move as things are being deleted and added

@hnry regarding not specifying a sorting function, I read the documention here: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Array/sort; it said: "If compareFunction is not supplied, elements are sorted by converting them to strings and comparing strings in Unicode code point order. For example, "Banana" comes before "cherry". In a numeric sort, 9 comes before 80, but because numbers are converted to strings, "80" comes before "9" in Unicode order." In other words, the sort function proved to be more accurate; in fact, some of the fcc tests didn't pass without it; please let me know if i'm not understanding you correctly

@nicolindsay92 It's explained in the lessons around the ones you're on, but basically class is a way to group like elements or assign a custom tag to your html elements
so for instance <p class="red-text"> will start a paragraph with a class of red text
hnry
@hnry
Jun 29 2016 04:50
@sansae i notice the opposite, but it's always better to follow that site and add a sort function then
Nicola
@nicolindsay92
Jun 29 2016 04:50
but if you want to do just one word @kmay00
its not a class?
hnry
@hnry
Jun 29 2016 04:50
@sansae for instance on certain JS engines, [8,90,1,2,3,10,0].sort() ===
[0, 1, 10, 2, 3, 8, 90] so it's sorting it correctly
@sansae but it might not be standard and other engines will sort itthe way MDN says, so better to follow MDN

My <style> should should have a pink-text CSS class with its color set to pink.

<style>

body {
background-color: black;

font-family: Monospace;
color: green;
color: pink;

}

</style>

<h1 class="pink-text">Hello World!

</h1>

kmay00

Jun 29 2016 04:56
just like h1, h2, h3, body, etc are all elements
hnry
@hnry
Jun 29 2016 04:57
@nicolindsay92 elements can have classes so <p class="red-text"> is a p element with the class red-text
kmay00
@kmay00
Jun 29 2016 04:57
@GenEst On that one you want to create a separate class for your pink text
hnry
@hnry
Jun 29 2016 04:57
@GenEst it needs to be it's own css class, you are adding it to the body element
kmay00
@kmay00
Jun 29 2016 04:57
You've assigned it to your h1, but you need to look at how to target that class for styling
Kent Saeteurn
@sansae
Jun 29 2016 04:58
@hnry yeah... lol, sorry hnry, i'm not sure what js engines you're referring to; i'm what you would call a nubie; but i'm genuinely curious now. Under what circumstances would anyone want to sort their numbers that way? [8,90,1,2,3,10,0].sort() ===
[0, 1, 10, 2, 3, 8, 90] ??? That's not how I grew up understanding numbers :)
kmay00
@kmay00
Jun 29 2016 04:59
Right now you have assigned it to your body styling and it overwrites the green one, because it comes after. However, they're wanting you to do it in a more precise way
hnry
@hnry
Jun 29 2016 04:59
@sansae i wasn't saying to sort that way
@sansae but i was showing you that 8 comes before 90, even though the text you pasted 90 was suppose to come before 8, so i was explaining then it is probably better to write a sort function because it doesn't seem 100% guarantee what you will get when you just do sort()
kmay00
@kmay00
Jun 29 2016 05:00
@ismail1tayebi Looks like you're almost there on your styling. width is miss spelled. Also you need to make sure you assign that class to your <img> tag

switch (val){

      case val === 99:
  answer="Missed me by this much!";

:point_right: accessing database front end [wiki]

Accesing the database from your Front End

You must have noticed in main.controller.js how things were retrieved from the database and displayed:

$http.get('/api/things').success(function(awesomeThings){
    $scope.awesomeThings = awesomeThings;
});

What this does is call the api with a "get" request, which is then routed by /server/api/thing/index.js to the exports.index function in thing.controller.js. You'll also notice in main.controller.js that there are included examples of $http.post and $http.delete functions too! How nice!

@achi-lles , Yours is cool, the tribute page. :+1: for the black background. The only suggestion is the blockquote and the text at the bottom would look good aligned with the lists. Now, they are a little in the left. And the site for eminem doesn't work. because you are not writing http:// , and give target="_blank" for every anchor element in codepen. That's the way it works, I guess.
Nice work

<style>

@sarasamir95 You're failing, because it wants it to say Hello World, not Hello.

@CaliGRITS You did the right thing for color: blue; but you wrapped everything in your style tags. Make sure you have a complete h2 and p outside of it

@purnendutiwari You can do it this way

<div id="images">
    <a href="http://xyz.com/hello">
        <img src="hello.png" width="100px" height="100px">
        <div class="caption">Caption 1</div>
    </a>
    <a href="http://xyz.com/hi">
        <img src="hi.png" width="100px" height="100px">
        <div class="caption">Caption 2</div>
    </a>
</div>

and the css

#images{
    text-align:center;
    margin:50px auto;
}
#images a{
    margin:0px 20px;
    display:inline-block;
    text-decoration:none;
    color:black;
 }
