Sometimes you want to add a elements to your website before you know where they will link.

This is also handy when you're changing the behavior of a link using jQuery, which we'll learn about later.

Replace the value of your a element's href attribute with a #, also known as a hash symbol, to turn it into a dead link.

Run tests (ctrl + enter)
Reset Help Bug
Your a element should be a dead link with a href attribute set to "#".

@csapty12 So I have a navbar-brand section I want to change the color of the text when I hover over the link and stuff... It aint workin. I've tried all sorts of stuff. I also directly applied an id to the a element im trying to target... No effect.

guys, your portfolio on githup is being updated from freecodecamp?

To match that of the rest of the navbar, or at least be able to play with it
Carl Saptarshi
@csapty12
Aug 02 2016 00:23
@Giovanadada nahh, you have to manually push to git

Todd
@TheOnlyRealTodd
Aug 02 2016 00:23
@csapty12 I honestly just dont get how the navbar classes work in general.. Why do you have to throw like 3-4 classes down to target each element?
Thats the hardest part of front-end for me LOL

Todd
@TheOnlyRealTodd
Aug 02 2016 00:27
@Giovanadada if you are still confused, then Udemy has a free one too but his is boring compared to hers lol. : https://www.udemy.com/git-started-with-github/learn/v4/

@csapty12 I get the basic hover, link etc...
Giovana Dada
@Giovanadada
Aug 02 2016 00:27
@TheOnlyRealTodd heheh allright :D
Todd
@TheOnlyRealTodd
Aug 02 2016 00:27
@csapty12 but it wasnt applying to that specific text
Carl Saptarshi
@csapty12
Aug 02 2016 00:28
@TheOnlyRealTodd so when you want to apply a “:hover”, “:link”, “:visited” etc, you dont have to actually use the a:action …..
you can literally do
@TheOnlyRealTodd #TCSD:visited {
color: green;
}
or

/ unvisited link /

TCSD:link {

color: #6FFBFC;

}

@TheOnlyRealTodd i llove them tbh, because i only started programming at uni itself, beacuse i do computer science! but it took a while to get into, but eventually once you get teh hang of it, the logic tends to stay the same for most langauges, so for example teh transition into javascript for me was very nice because i already know a lot of the logic,

Hello everyone!
@dellesbrandon create the p element in your html (if it's not already there), and then you're going to hop on over to your css, and you're going to refer to it by just putting:
p{
}

Nick Beaudoin
@metasci
Aug 02 2016 02:06
@Radascript dependencies are the libraries you've included in your project... meaning your project is dependent on them for proper function - if you have no node_modules folder and run npm install in bash, your project will install all dependencies listed in package.json

@Radascript I am going to assume your using the BASH command line? in which case 'cd' into your project1 directory, and run 'npm init' then hit enter until your out of the set up menu (all the setup info is irrelevant for you to try dealing with right now) that will create your package.json file.

after this every time you install a module with npm, throw a '-S' on the end. then reopen your package.json file and look for your dependencies... it will make more sense when you play with that a little

@pmtaylor832 to give them styles inside CSS, you need a special notation.
For classes:
.coolClass{color: blue;}
For IDs:

specialImage{margin-left: 50px;}

For elements you can just do
div{text-align: center;}

@metasci ohhh ok I think I'm starting to get it! And inside my index file, I just need to link to a package.json file and it will have all the stuff that I need in it? Thank you again for your patient explanation.

@Radascript no your package.json file you can think of as just a record of your project... the title, description, author(you), dependencies, and so on. its only of use in your program when you initially install all required modules. you reference your required modules at the top of your server.js (or app.js) file... that server file then references your index.html file via routes. which are the instructions specific to url path... www.website.com/ (send index.html)... www.website.com/about (send about.html)
idk if that was helpful at all, but i tried lol

I have a question about using css preprocessors in codepen.
A framework like Bootstrap or Foundation (which is what I'm using) is already compiled from the Less or Sass that it was written in, right? So then I can't access the variables that were used to create the framework if, for instance, I wanted to change the background color of panels? I'd have to do that in css?

Hello I was wondering if anyone would be able to help. I've been stuck on this lesson for a while now... My objectives are to: Nest all of your radio buttons inside one div with the class row.
Nest each of your radio buttons inside its own div with the class col-xs-6.
Make sure each of your div elements has a closing tag.

So far I've managed to do this,

<div class="row">
<div class="col-xs-6">
<button class="btn btn-block btn-primary"><i class="fa fa-thumbs-up"></i> Like</button></div>
<div class="col-xs-6">
<button class="btn btn-block btn-info"><i class="fa fa-info-circle"></i> Info</button></div>
<div class="col-xs-6">
<button class="btn btn-block btn-danger"><i class="fa fa-trash"></i> Delete</button></div> Can anyone figure out what I'm doing wrong?

Darth Skywalker
@adityaparab
Aug 02 2016 04:51
@ibadsiddiqui : Not necessarily localhost. You can upload your json to some server and fetch it from there. (Using CORS). You will need to use JSONP in that case. But it is mandatory that the url is resolvable from some server. may be localhost or something else

@UsamaHameed : It doesn't! It just requires you to run a command that needs node.

Had it been about node, you'd have written your own server. Here we are using the package called http-server which will spawn the server for you.

@jadczakd If you keep the same grid for a smaller screen size, you would have to decrease the font size and the size of the images too much. They would not be visible.
No. @cypherman A dead link is a link that when clicked would do nothing.
So, we replace the address so that it does not open any other webpage.

if you write

This, however nicely it works, is a bad practice. Having a need to explicitly inherit something defeats the purpose of the term cascading of cascading style sheets.

Technically you can do whatever the fuck you want lol

you can write

if(true){

} else {
    console.log('If True');
}

you do the same thing in both if and else. But do you do it? No! Because that's 1) pointless and 2) makes you come across idiotic. :D

So there is a way to do things right way. :D

You can get in the car and run over 50 people while driving at 60mph
OR you can drive at 200mph like a boss without getting a scratch.

@csapty12 Bordered column - the placeholder. Want to allign it middle + / or right column on the same row, I want this placeholder to be 100% of the parent (which should be the height of the biggest column, yet somehow it escapes me why it stretches further / less depending on screensize)
@csapty12 Original idea was to have 2 rows of placeholders there, but it seems that making a div of 2colums x 2 rows is out of my reach for now.

Carl Saptarshi
@csapty12
Aug 02 2016 09:48
oh haha
right okay
see, its the way you have done your rows, because you have eveything in rows, and columns accordingy, they willl not overlap into other columns
because of that, they fit where possible
one sec
becaause they are images, they will squash up as they have no room to go anywhere else
on resize
jadczakd
@jadczakd
Aug 02 2016 09:51
Yeah they are not supposed to. I mean my logic was the following. I made the row make all the column go same height (as the biggest one) so I would reckong if I make the img go fullhight (with 100% / 100vh although both yeild different results) it would go to the size of the biggest column.

@csapty12 Well to be honest I am quite happy with FFC , it really orders it nicely, although I fell like there is a lot missing in this first chapter I've finished. @jadczakd yeah i know what you mean, well what you can do is go through w3schools bootstrap and learn even more, and then apply them to your situation where appropriate! the more you practise, the better you get :)

jadczakd
@jadczakd
Aug 02 2016 10:07
@csapty12 Oh god. I am far from that. I was not using a theme per-se. Just a wordpress plugin with a drag and drop editor for literally anything from pages to posts, with many elements and animate included. I want to learn to code though, as I want to change career within the next 1-2 years. So let's hope I can persist with that. They results you've seen are after just 2 solid days of FFC, although I must say nesting which seems to come up here quite a lot, isn't that problematic for me.

@evaphilippines Would you mind sharing what you were working on? I think I will go through HTML. CSS. Bootstra on w3 before that though.

@csapty12 using a theme and redesign seems like a good idea. Like looking at the codes you mean and see how it was coded?
Sure but please dont laugh lol @jadczakd

@evaphilippines okay, one step at a time
@evaphilippines lets do part 2 part, "cant seem to figure how to link my nav bar to same pages etc” what is your goal, because so far you only have the header but

@evaphilippines Hey It't not bad at all. Two things though. I don't think you actually want eVaPhilippines to be a link and you can easily make the buttons to social media into icons, which would be an application of a little diffrent technique :)

@sarah398 almost, yeah but you’re missing the p element to which that style has to be applied
 <style>
.red-text {
color: red;
}
p {
font-size: 16px;
}
</style>
