@itsacoyote ok fair enough. i'll give that a shot.
Vatsal Sura
@vatsalsura
Aug 07 2016 00:04
@itsacoyote The navbar list which is right aligned is collapsed to a button if the screen size is decreased. So when button pressed it expands the navbar and shows the ul elements which were collapsed
@itsacoyote So, when they are expanded, the list shows on the left side of the screen

hi i just had a question about the img element in html. Why doesn't it have a closing bracket like other elements like </img>
Vatsal Sura
@vatsalsura
Aug 07 2016 00:05
But I want them centered
Sabrina Ferguson
@itsacoyote
Aug 07 2016 00:08
@speederramma an img element is a "void" element
you don't put anything inside between an opening and a closing tag
thus it isn't required to have a closing tag, but it can.
You may find across the internet some img tags that look like <img src="http://google.com" /> with a closing slash at the end. That's legacy stuff that we don't do anymore.
speederramma
@speederramma
Aug 07 2016 00:10
ok so what is the difference between a void element an a regular element other than a void doesn't have to have a closing tag?
Sabrina Ferguson
@itsacoyote
Aug 07 2016 00:10
@vatsalsura well off the top of my head I can't determine what you'd need to do to align it to the right, a codepen would be better to work with.
@speederramma I believe that's the main difference.
Matt K
@mkrump
Aug 07 2016 00:11
@itsacoyote Thanks. That worked (making rows direct descendants of container) but then what is the right way to define the box that is the calculator itself? https://codepen.io/okeydoke/pen/KrGjxa

@orinocogroup a div element by itself is an empty container, it doesn't really show up on the page. You need to add stuff inside it, give it some content. A div has an opening and a closing tag. <div> </div> In between you can add things like paragraphs, images, links, etc.

<div> <p>I am a paragraph inside a div tag</p> </div>

You've now got <div class="container-fluid"> </div>. Put all of your content between the tags.

A better format looks like
<div class="container-fluid">
*** put stuff here ***
</div>
Ikenna
@orinocogroup

thats my code here's the question Use the jQuery addClass() function to give the classes animated and bounce to your button elements.
Only use jQuery to add these classes to the element.
Sabrina Ferguson
@itsacoyote
Aug 07 2016 00:29
@kelseywest520 you need to put that addClass animated bounce thing inside between the { }
Not inside the function arguments area

Use the $("button") selector.

@starhui as a result of your code tracks property in that example is string, it needs to be an array with one element in this particular case

Delete all three of these jQuery functions from your document ready function, but leave your document ready function itself intact.

create an entry for p elements and set the font-size to 16 pixels (16px).
Also, please do not add a class attribute to your new p element

Aug 07 2016 04:12
@Proto715 fahrenheit is undefined, it holds no value. then you try to assign fahrenheit to the result of some math done upon it, but undefined *= 9 / 5 + 32 means nothing. you need to use the celsius variable that was passed into the function, and convert that into fahrenheit

@qualitymanifest I mean variable = variable *= 5;
DJ
@qualitymanifest
Aug 07 2016 04:20
var fahrenheit; this line declares fahrenheit but gives it no value. it is undefined.
fahrenheit = fahrenheit *= 9 / 5 + 32; since fahrenheit has no value you can't use it in a math equation.
if you look at the top of your function you have:
function convertToF(celsius)
convertToF is the name of the function, and it is passed in a variable called celsius. which is a temperature in celsius
the point of this challenge is to convert the celcius into fahrenheit with some math, and assign it to a variable named fahrenheit, and then return that variable.

Norvin Burrus

Aug 07 2016 04:27
@Proto715
The algorithm to convert from Celsius to Fahrenheit is the temperature in Celsius times 9/5, plus 32.
we can rewrite the equation/formula to:
Fahrenheit is (=) Celsius times() 9/5, plus (+) 32.
which is F = C
9/5 + 32,
or F = C(9/5) + 32.

How do i do this

HELP.push( " var1 " " + var 2 + " (quotes to keep these togehter) + "," + var 3 + " end quotes same as first)

basically all i want to do is push some variables in an array and have the first few variables between quote marks and the last one ending with quote marks... When I do it it puts a backslash after my " ' " <quote marks

Aug 07 2016 06:36

Repl is showing this, which is nearly correct

[ '1st July 2017", July 23rd 201' ]

With this code in place.

answer.push(''+arr0[2]+" " +arr0[1]+' ' +arr0[0]+''+'"'+","+" "+  ""+ arr1[1] +" "+ arr1[2]+" "+ arr1[0] +"");

All i tried to do on repl then was change the quote marks from ' to " and that made the \ error again

@DarrenfJ ok i can show u then

Hi all, I'm making a simple project for practice making a night and day clickable sun/moon.
I get the sun/moon to change but not the sky, How do I show my code here?

```<div id= "orb" class="sun moon"></div>
<div id= "sky" class="day night"></div>
css
.night{
background-color: #100b2b;
}
.day {
background-color: #4daad1;
}
orb {
height: 300px;
width: 300px;
border-radius: 100%;
padding: 20px;
/ Margin auto centers along the top /
margin: auto;
/ position absolute centers from top /
position: absolute;
/ Killing all margins from interfering with above position commands /
top: 0; left: 0; bottom: 0; right: 0;
/ background-color: blue; /
}
sky {
height: 100%;
width: 100%;
}
.sun {
background-color: yellow;
border: 10px solid #ffbf00;
}
.sun:hover{
border: 20px solid #f1c40f;
}
.moon {
background-color: #cfd5e5;
border: 5px solid #f8fcfd;
}
.moon:hover{
border: 20px solid #f8fcfd;
}
js
//$(document).ready is an event that occurs on our document when it is
//fully loaded and ready to go.
$(document).ready(function(){
//This code below will run after page loads
$('#orb').click(function(){
if($('#orb').hasClass('sun')){
$('#orb').removeClass('sun').addClass('moon');
}
else{
$('#orb').removeClass('moon').addClass('sun');
Aug 07 2016 09:05
@earleybird36 if you are going to use an if/else statement for more than 2 statements, then if should be: if() {} else if () {} else if {} then finally else
the else if represents the number of possible conditions you may want.. or else the computer just goes through the first 2
Rick
@earleybird36
Aug 07 2016 09:07
I think I understand....looking now.
@OnomeSotu I thought because I was talking about different div's I had to put each one in its own condition....Thats not right?
if the code runs from a single input say if $()click(function)..then you should make it a single if/else if/else statemnt
@earleybird36 but if the clicking action is seperate, then make another .click() function with it's if statements for example $("#day").click(function)() { if $(this)......
Rick
@earleybird36
Aug 07 2016 09:14
@OnomeSotu, I got it.....your saying because all of this stuff happens from 1 click, all conditions must be chained together?
Challenge Check Radio Buttons and Checkboxes by Default
You can set a checkbox or radio button to be checked by default using the checked attribute.
To do this, just add the word "checked" to the inside of an input element. For example,
<input type="radio" name="test-name" checked>
:pencil: read more about challenge check radio buttons and checkboxes by default on the FCC Wiki
Hello
Emphasize the text in your target4 button by adding HTML tags. - what is this about?
I am at JQuery exercises
my input is this one: $("#target4").html("<em>target4</em>").text("#target4");
is there anyone?
Mostafa Syam
@pro-mos
Aug 07 2016 12:56
you're using a selector instead of a text in .text() @misha213
Mihai Milea
@misha213
Aug 07 2016 12:57
If I let only target4 - that is the text. - there are 2 errors:
Emphasize the text in your target4 button by adding HTML tags.
Make sure the text is otherwise unchanged.
if I put the id #target4 --> then there is only the first one remaining to be solved:
Emphasize the text in your target4 button by adding HTML tags.
good morning everyone, can anybody help me on this: Understand String Immutability
In JavaScript, String values are immutable, which means that they cannot be altered once created.
For example, the following code:
var myStr = "Bob";
myStr[0] = "J";
cannot change the value of myStr to "Job", because the contents of myStr cannot be altered. Note that this does not mean that myStr cannot be changed, just that the individual characters of a string literal cannot be changed. The only way to change myStr would be to assign it with a new string, like this:
var myStr = "Bob";
myStr = "Job";
Instructions
Correct the assignment to myStr to achieve the desired effect.
// Setup
var myStr = "Jello World";
// Only change code below this line
myStr[0] = "H"; // Fix Me
Keith
@Penderis
Aug 07 2016 14:02
@xiaji1 just reassign the whole variable myStr = "Hello World";
here is what needs to be done
By making them block elements with the additional class of btn-block, your button will stretch to fill your page's entire horizontal space and any elements following it will flow onto a "new line" below the block.
<button class="btn btn-block">Submit</button>
do i need to use btn not button
it autoindents to both of these, highly annoying
@Eclogesh debugging how bootstrap's works may be a little too much, may be easier to read the actual js file and see where it happens. Otherwise, to see how a general carousel works, may want to google "HTML Jquery carousel". Not all carousels out there have the same structure or animation though.
Hi, could anybody help me on this: Word Blanks
We will now use our knowledge of strings to build a "Mad Libs" style word game we're calling "Word Blanks". You will create an (optionally humorous) "Fill in the Blanks" style sentence.
You will need to use string operators to build a new string, result, using the provided variables: myNoun, myAdjective, myVerb, and myAdverb.
You will also need to use additional strings, which will not change, and must be in between all of the provided words. The output should be a complete sentence.
We have provided a framework for testing your results with different words. The tests will run your function with several different inputs to make sure all of the provided words appear in the output, as well as your extra strings.
the correct answer should be"result+= "My "+myAdjective+" "+myNoun+" "+myVerb+" very "+myAdverb+".";". could anybody explain 1. why use "result+=", not use"return="? 2. why this code will print out "My big dog ran very quickly." not My big dog ran very quickly.? is this because var result = "";?
function wordBlanks(myNoun, myAdjective, myVerb, myAdverb) {
  var result = "";
  // Your code below this line
result+= "My "+myAdjective+" "+myNoun+" "+myVerb+" very "+myAdverb+".";
  // Your code above this line
  return result;
}
// Change the words here to test your function
wordBlanks("dog", "big", "ran", "quickly");
the correct answer should be"result+= "My "+myAdjective+" "+myNoun+" "+myVerb+" very "+myAdverb+".";". could anybody explain 1. why use "result+=", not use"return="? 2. why this code will print out "My big dog ran very quickly." not My big dog ran very quickly.? is this because var result = "";?
@dhjfoodstech You can apply Css in three ways. 1 with an external style sheet(css file), 2 declare the style at the top of your html file with <style> tags. 3 style an individual element eg - <p style="color:red">Red</p>
Replace the value of your a element's href attribute with a #, also known as a hash symbol, to turn it into a dead link.
@jfkirkpatrick you used the example HTML, but the instructions want this:
Now nest your existing a element within a new p element (just after the existing h2 element) so that the surrounding paragraph says "View more cat photos", but where only "cat photos" is a link, and the rest of the text is plain text.
@scaley29 give your nav element the class navbar-fixed-top
