Guys, in the portfolio assignment, what can I code so that when I press a button, it sets the right bar at a specific place of the page?
Like, I press a button, and it sends me to the middle of the page, I press another, and it sends me to the bottom of the page. Then there is a button, "back to top" and it sends me to the top. How can I code that?
Warren E Jones

:point_right: challenge use css selectors to style elements [wiki]

Challenge Use CSS Selectors to Style Elements

Instead of giving style attributes one by one, we can do this to multiple elements at the same time.

You can create a style element like this: <style></style>.

Inside that style element, you can create a CSS selector for any HTML Elements. For example, if you wanted all h2 elements to be red, your style element would look like this:

<style>h2 {color: red;}</style>

Note that it's important to have both opening and closing curly braces ({ and }) around each element's style. You also need to make sure your element's style is between the opening and closing style tags. Finally, be sure to add the semicolon to the end of each of your element's styles.

I am working on a simple CSS assignment, and I can't move beyond it. I've added a style as instructed,

```CSS <style>
.smaller-image {
width: 100px;
}
</style>
then added it to my img tag,
```html

Remember that in order to start a comment, you need to use <!-- and to end a comment, you need to use -->

Here you'll need to end the comment before your h2 element begins.

Comment out your h1 element and your p element, but leave your h2 element uncommented.

@Eldon55With CSS, there are hundreds of CSS properties that you can use to change the way an element looks on your page.

When you entered <h2 style="color: red">CatPhotoApp</h2>, you were giving that individual h2 element an inline style.

That's one way to add style to an element, but a better way is by using CSS, which stands for Cascading Style Sheets.

At the top of your code, create a style element like this:

<style>
</style>

@Eldon55Inside that style element, you can create a CSS selector for all h2 elements. For example, if you wanted all h2 elements to be red, your style element would look like this:

<style>
h2 {color: red;}
</style>
Note that it's important to have both opening and closing curly braces ({ and }) around each element's style. You also need to make sure your element's style is between the opening and closing style tags. Finally, be sure to add the semicolon to the end of each of your element's styles.

Delete your h2 element's style attribute and instead create a CSS style element. Add the necessary CSS to turn all h2 elements blue.

Run tests (ctrl + enter)
Reset Help Bug
Sign in so you can save your progress
Remove the style attribute from your h2 element.
Create a style element.
Your h2 element should be blue.
Ensure that your stylesheet h2 declaration is valid with a semicolon and closing brace.
Make sure all your style elements are valid and have a closing tag.

@Shanaela ok, the original code has 3 elements, right (h1, h2, and p)?
so, we need to use the characters <!-- & --> placed at either end of the elements. try one and see what it does.
it will make the code gray - which means that code will not be executed... this is useful for making notes (or documenting the) within the code.
so, how's it going?

  • using Shift + enter will give you additional line feeds (space) for pasting your code. also, the backticks (`) key is located to the left of the number one (#1) key.
  • further, you may find the two buttons (chat/compose & markdown - the chat/compose button alternates modes) to the right of the text entry area helpful.
  • you can also edit (reply, quote, edit, delete) text after it's been entered by clicking on the three (3) dots to the right of the text entry area (it will appear when you hover to the right of the time stamp). or, you can press the up arrow/key.

Alright take 2, so i am having trouble making the heading with the id title_dr_norman" responsive, it stays static as i shrink and grow the window.

.container{
border-radius:10px;
width:95%;
padding:10%;
//To make hte container responsive i opted to use percentage rather than px's
background-color: #EEEEEE;
}
.wrapper{
padding:10px;
margin:30px;
background-color:white;
}
.text-primary{
color:#333333;

}
.text-wrapper1
{
margin:auto;
width:80%;
}
#small_citetation{
color:#777777;
}
</style>

<body>
<div class="wrapper">
<div class="header">

<div class="container">
//

//
<h1 class="text-primary text-center h1" id="title_dr_norman"> Dr. Norman Borlaug</h1>

''' @Boris1011 @codercode123
  • using Shift + enter will give you additional line feeds (space) for pasting your code. also, the backticks (`) key is located to the left of the number one (#1) key.
  • further, you may find the two buttons (chat/compose & markdown - the chat/compose button alternates modes) to the right of the text entry area helpful.
  • you can also edit (reply, quote, edit, delete) text after it's been entered by clicking on the three (3) dots to the right of the text entry area (it will appear when you hover to the right of the time stamp). or, you can press the up arrow/key.
