@gabytolles to style an image you need to select the img tag in your <style></style> and give it the width and height that you want
<style>
    img {
          width: 100px;
          heigth: 100px;

Size your Images
CSS has a property called width that controls an element's width. Just like with fonts, we'll use px (pixels) to specify the image's width.

For example, if we wanted to create a CSS class called larger-image that gave HTML elements a width of 500 pixels, we'd use:

<style>
.larger-image {
width: 500px;
}
</style>
Create a class called smaller-image and use it to resize the image so that it's only 100 pixels wide.

i did this. But it did not work <link class="smaller-image" href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Lobster" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">

<style>
.smaller-image {
width: 100px;
}
<style>
.red-text {
color: red;
}

h2 {
font-family: Lobster, Monospace;
}

p {
font-size: 16px;
font-family: Monospace;
}

</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<img src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. ">

<p class="red-text">Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.</p>

Aug 21 2016 00:44
@IsmaelBarba :sparkles:
  • remove this class="smaller-image" from the link address (1st code line)
  • we only need one set (opening & closing) of style tags. the code shows 2 opening tags (remove the second one)
  • follow the format/syntax for an element within the style tags, here:
    <style>
    .larger-image {
      width: 500px;
    }
    </style>
  • need smaller-image class in img tag.

@ndburrus, am I not already doing what it says? I'm adding to the end of the array with arr.pop(item), and I'm removing the first element with arr.shift(). I know I'm missing something. I just don't know what.
@DabLife you assign a class to an element by using class="insertClassNameHere" within the tag.
<p class="insertClassNameHere"> some text </p>

@AndrewWYoung :sparkles:

  • ok, we need to ensure we're using the appropriate methods to meet the requirements (we need 2 - see the four on the doc/link). i think you had the correct ones initially....
  • we need to do 2 things: 1) Add the number to the end of the array &
    2) remove the first element of array.

so, which two methods shall we use?

@DabLife :sparkles:
  • the format for the opening div would be <div class="className">(just above Things cats love:)
Andrew
@AndrewWYoung
Aug 21 2016 01:35
push() is used because its what adds a value at the end of the array. I also chose shift() because it removes the first value of the array. Which should pass the tests the problem is asking for. pop() removes a value from the end of the array (which we don't want). and unshift() just adds a value to the beginning of the array (also, what we don't want).
I have to be overlooking something.

how do you get a background color to your form element?
Norvin Burrus
@ndburrus
Aug 21 2016 01:51

@meamay07 :sparkles:

  • define it in the style element, and use it in the element (form)
  • the format for the style element declaration (per the example code) is:
    .green-background {
    background-color: green;
    }

we would use the element/class like this:
<element class="className" > (opening element tag)

@gnosyaj
In JavaScript, String values are immutable, which means that they cannot be altered once created.

For example, the following code:

var myStr = "Bob";
myStrxamarin/xamarin-android@a16673d = "J";
cannot change the value of myStr to "Job", because the contents of myStr cannot be altered. Note that this does not mean that myStr cannot be changed, just that the individual characters of a string literal cannot be changed. The only way to change myStr would be to assign it with a new string, like this:

var myStr = "Bob";
myStr = "Job";
Instructions
Correct the assignment to myStr to achieve the desired effect.

// Setup
var myStr = "Jello World";

// Only change code below this line
myStrxamarin/xamarin-android@a16673d = "H"; // Fix Me

Right now I am working on my tribute page and my rows are not working the way they should. The 2 rows are lining up completely wrong, the second row is ignoring my "container" class altogether and everything I have read about rows does not say I have to have a "container" div for each "row" section. When I do put an individual "container" div then it throws my rows off. My code looks like <div="container">
<div="row">
<ul>
<div class="col-xs-1"><li><strong>1882</strong></li></div>
<div class="col-md-4"><li>Started working for Continental Edison Company.</li></div>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="row">
<ul>
<div class="col-xs-1"><li><strong>1884</strong></li></div>
<div class="col-md-4"><li>Moved to New York to work with Edison directly.</li></div>

I am working on the "Arguments Optional" algorithm and I can't get the last test to pass (where parameters are (2, [3]). I've run it in jsFiddle and it seems to work as expected. Anyone have any ideas? Is this a bug?

function addTogether(num1, num2) {
  for (i = 0; i < arguments.length; i++) {
    if (typeof arguments[i] !== 'number') {
      return undefined;
    }
  }
  if (arguments.length > 1) {
    return num1 + num2;
  } else {
    var prev = arguments[0];
    return function(num) {
      return prev + num;
    };
  }
}

addTogether(2,[3]);

  • using Shift + enter will give you additional line feeds (space) for pasting your code. also, the backticks (`) key is located to the left of the number one (#1) key.
  • further, you may find the two buttons (chat/compose & markdown - the chat/compose button alternates modes) to the right of the text entry area helpful.
  • you can also edit (reply, quote, edit, delete) text after it's been entered by clicking on the three (3) dots to the right of the text entry area (it will appear when you hover to the right of the time stamp). or, you can press the up arrow/key.

Give the parent of the #target1 element a background-color of red.

Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Aug 21 2016 04:43

@peacengell if you look carefully

 <div class="well" id="left-well">
          <button class="btn btn-default target" id="target1">#target1</button>
          <button class="btn btn-default target" id="target2">#target2</button>
          <button class="btn btn-default target" id="target3">#target3</button>
        </div>

you’ll see that the button with id of target1 is nested in a div with id left-well
so when you say $(“#target1”).parent(), you’re referring to #left-well itself

That’s why the challenge says

Your left-well element should have a red background.

because you are pushing elements @swapnildaddikar
swapnildaddikar
@swapnildaddikar
Aug 21 2016 05:18
pairElement("ATCGA") should return [["A","T"],["T","A"],["C","G"],["G","C"],["A","T"]]
r2d2
@UsamaHameed
Aug 21 2016 05:18
If you push arrays to newarray that would make an array of arrays

Add an h4 element to each of your <div class="col-xs-6"> elements.
One h4 element should have the text #left-well.
One h4 element should have the text #right-well.
Make sure all your h4 elements have closing tags.

@adityaparab
Aug 21 2016 06:59

@Cjgrubz : If you want to create a css class, you do that by prepending your class name with a .. So if you want a css class with name of smaller-image you will, in your style tag, write .smaller-image

Now you want to to make the element that has a class with name smaller-image 100px wide. To do that you will use a css property called width and set it's value to 100px

does anyone know the code for (Target the same element with multiple jQuery Selectors)

@Antiaccess :

In regular expressions, [] represents a group of characters. when you say [a-z0-9] it will match all the characters that are between a to z and 0-9

When your set begins with a ^, it means not . So [^a-z0-9] will mean match all the characters that are NOT between a to z and 0 to 9 (a, z,0 and 9) inclusive)

@Char-Kway-Teow : What's the problem statement?

Hi all! Quick question. I’ve nested two radio buttons within a within a <div class="col-xs-6"> element. And I’ve nested three checkboxes in a <div class="col-xs-4"> element to make the checkboxes and radio buttons spread out evenly across the page (buttons and boxes each with their own "row" class) . It all works fine, but what I can’t figure out is how you choose the number of columns (i.e. 6 and 4) using the Bootstrap grid. Is there an explanation for this for hardcore dummies, apart from the diagram FCC shows?

@Starkenburg maybe this is my perspective in that grid layout in bootstrap..
total of that grid is 12 columns, if you put <div class="col-xs-6"> and <div class="col-xs-4"> total of 10 columns use right and there still remaining 2 columns out there , its easy to layout using grid, and just a tip, try to create a div class with 1 columns and add a border style for easy to see the output,
