@ezekohon I think I figured it out. Your Twitter button is an actual button, not an <a> link that looks like a button. So you're trying to add an href to a button, which doesn't work.

Same behavior occurs in chrome, firefox, edge, and internet exploere

heyy guys I'm having trouble in this section.
Give each of your button elements text that corresponds to its id's selector.
<div class="row">

<h4>#left-well</h4>
<div class="well" id="left-well">
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target1"></button>

missing style element
if you want it inline you should style="background-color:green;"
if css you would want
form { background-color:green;}
Shane Veness

its telling me not to give my form a style attribute and when i put it in without style= its saying Your form element should have the background-color of green.

okay so refer to the <tr> or <td> tag that needs highlighting
oh wait im thinking tables lol
what's the question? to get a green background on one of the elements just refer to it in css
Shane Veness
@veness
Aug 22 2016 03:03

One cool thing about id attributes is that, like classes, you can style them using CSS.

Here's an example of how you can take your element with the id attribute of cat-photo-element and give it the background color of green. In your style element:

cat-photo-element {

background-color: green;
}
Note that inside your style element, you always reference classes by putting a . in front of their names. You always reference ids by putting a # in front of their names.

Try giving your form, which now has the id attribute of cat-photo-form, a green background.

i got the style part right it just seems to not want to allow me to background my id
Eamonn
@reesby
Aug 22 2016 03:04
.cat-photo-element { background-color:green;}
Shane Veness
@veness
Aug 22 2016 03:06
i put that right inside the form right?
Eamonn
@reesby
Aug 22 2016 03:06
no
this is in css
use a # not a .
i messed up
it also seems like you don't have a cat-photo-element anywhere, you might need to go back and put it in where the editor expects it to be
or maybe you just use #cat-photo-form

how would i do that without giving a class or style???
Eamonn
@reesby
Aug 22 2016 03:25
the #cat-photo-element identifier corresponds to an id of an element in your form. The question wants css styling not inline styling
eliluong
@eliluong
Aug 22 2016 03:26
hmm, then you have to put in the css an id... like #cat-photo-form and put the green bg in there
Eamonn
@reesby
Aug 22 2016 03:26
^^^
eliluong
@eliluong
Aug 22 2016 03:27
pretty much you can add css style by class (the .), by id (the #), or by putting the style tag in the element tag itself
Eamonn
@reesby
Aug 22 2016 03:28

so in css you would have

cat-photo-element

{ background-color:green; }

and in your html form you would have <form id="cat-photo-element">

cat-photo-element

ah, "#cat-photo-element"

you need to give it an element to size
so p { font-size:16px; }
Shane Veness
@veness
Aug 22 2016 03:30
so i dont add the color in the form? just "#cat-photo-element" ?
Eamonn
@reesby
Aug 22 2016 03:31
no, i believe the question is giving you incorrect results because it wants you to use css styling and not inline styling
they are different things and work differently. it is trying to teach you how to separate the code. html is structure, css is design work
by using inline styling you are putting design work inside html, which is discouraged

  • need to follow the example code format/syntax, here:

this code will style the color in the h2 element below the sytyle tags.

@itsmejulatoncj01 :sparkles:

  • this lesson is illustrating that a class defined in the style tags will take precedence over a definition in the body element.
  • we need to define a .pink-text class in the style element.
  • we can see the format for defining a class in the Use CSS Selectors to Style Elements lesson, here:

    <style>
       h2 {color: red;
       }
    </style>
  • remember, to use the style class, we need to identify it in the element (in this lesson - h1).

Hey all-- I need help with the "Show the Local Weather" zipline project. The previous one, Random Quote, really had me pulling my hair out. It is bad enough trying to make requests to a different domain when not having to deal with codepen. But then it seems that all URLs that are not statically included in the javascript settings of the codepen get converted into "boomerang" URLs. And that includes the URLs of ajax requests and dynamically-inserted <script> tags. Is there something I'm missing?

  • this lesson is saying that an additional css class definition {listed 2nd (style element) in this case}, will be prioritized over the 1st definition.
  • so, create the additional definition (same way you just did).
  • also, include this class in the element - h1.

@ndburrus so is basically jquery a more adaptable CSS and more precise bootstrap/css?

@JOH2242082 :sparkles:

jQuery is a cross-platform JavaScript library designed to simplify the client-side scripting of HTML.[3] jQuery is the most popular JavaScript library in use today, with installation on 65% of the top 10 million highest-trafficked sites on the Web.[4][5][6] jQuery is free, open-source software licensed under the MIT License.[2]
jQuery's syntax is designed to make it easier to navigate a document, select DOM elements, create animations, handle events, and develop Ajax applications. jQuery also provides capabilities for developers to create plug-ins on top of the JavaScript library. This enables developers to create abstractions for low-level interaction and animation, advanced effects and high-level, themeable widgets. The modular approach to the jQuery library allows the creation of powerful dynamic web pages and Web applications.

These are the instructions:
Add a div element with the class well inside each of your div elements with the class "col-xs-6"

Nest both of your div elements with the class "col-xs-6" within your div element with the class "row".

Make sure all your div elements have closing tags.

And this is my code:

<div class="container-fluid">
<h3 class="text-primary text-center">jQuery Playground</h3>

<div class="row">

<div class="col-xs-6"> <div class="well"></div>

  <div class="col-xs-6"> <div class="well"></div>

@nokia6290 What you can do is use text() to get the existing text and then use html() to update it

.text() in this case is not permitted to be used
however how would using (text() work?

@nokia6290 .text(‘no markup’) - .html(“<p>markup</p>”)

text will get the existing text inside the selector, just like vanilla js .innerHTML and you can use html to concatenate the text with 'em'

So if it's not streaming, display the name and make a link you can click on to their channel
but if it is streaming add text to say what they're streaking
streaming*
what I did for channels that weren't streaming was writing "Offline" under the name

Yuvi basically if the change isn't streaming, you're not going to get any stream info. So make an if statement to see whether the stream is null or not, if it isn't null then display the info
If the channel isn't streaming**

@codeandrew Anything inside a responsive element would inherit the responsive-ness I believe.

hmm so if I want the figure to be responsive should I just recode the <figure> at max-width(580px)
Solaia
@solaia
Aug 22 2016 13:51
@codeandrew Yep, that would work. Just set your max-width as big as you ever want it to be and test it out. :)

@dmkinger ? what do you mean, by creating a class ? I presume you want to assign that input a class ... for that the answer is yet. You can later customize your button in css with .btn {background: red } etc.
