Heyo, I just wanted to know if there were problems of how i added this line of code further down the road into my answer. It let me pass int the next question but i couldn't help feel that something was very wrong. The challenge is : Size your images
<!-- this let me passed <img class = "smaller-image" ></p> -->

<link href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Lobster" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">

<style>
.red-text {
color: red;
}

.smaller-image{
width: 100px;
}

h2 {
font-family: Lobster, Monospace;
}

p {
font-size: 16px;
font-family: Monospace;
}
</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<img src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. "

<img class = "smaller-image"></p>

<p class="red-text">Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.</p>
<p class="red-text">Purr jump eat the grass rip the couch scratched sunbathe, shed everywhere rip the couch sleep in the sink fluffy fur catnip scratched.</p>

@Bezan1 You can add any class you want just by separating them with a space.
For instance if you want to add the class col-xs-4 just type it inside the class :)

Aug 23 2016 03:10

@Bezan1 Are you sure you're respecting all the requirements to use Bootstrap grid system?
For instance:
Rows must be placed within a .container (fixed-width) or .container-fluid (full-width) for proper alignment and padding. Use rows to create horizontal groups of columns. Content should be placed within columns, and only columns may be immediate children of rows.

You can have a look at the documentation here
http://getbootstrap.com/css/#grid

And feel free to show your code :)

Giving your divs a fixed place on the screen with CSS, or more easily using bootsrap grid system :)

@codingwithian in basic terms the floated element gets ignored so the next element pushes up along side - if they are all floating left they create a line of divs

@codingwithian you are adding margin to bootstrap cols because you placeholder is on same element - you need to do this ```
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-4 ">
<div class="placeholder"></div>
</div>
<div class="col-md-4 ">
<div class="placeholder"></div>

oh nvm, i see. its because when you add margin to the placeholders, the col-md-3 always stays the same
dopee
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Aug 23 2016 04:11

@codingwithian By the way you have structured your code you're telling bootstrap to place 3 div in the full width, and then adding 5 extra pixels of space between them.
Inevitably the last one will be pushed on a new line.

The best way to deal with it is as @encount suggested, so nest your placeholders inside the grid system, and maybe add for that placeholder a width: 100% (just for the look :) )

encount
@encount
Aug 23 2016 04:11
@codingwithian bootstrap is just a big library of css rule - so col-md-4 - will be some % of the screen size to take up exactly 1/3 of the page - you added margin so there was not enough room so it had to go to a newline
Ian Ramos
@codingwithian
Aug 23 2016 04:12

encount
@encount
Aug 23 2016 04:14

Hello. I'm on the lesson Target the Parent of an Element Using Jquery and I'm having challenges with getting the error check to pass. I'm missing getting the left-well element to a red background while using .parent.

Here's the code:

<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#target1").css("color", "red");
$("#target1").prop("disabled", true);
$("#target4").remove();
$("#target2").appendTo("#right-well");
$("#target5").clone().appendTo("#left-well");
$("#target1").parent();
$("#left-well").parent().css("background-color","red");
});
</script>

Any suggestions? Thx

h1{

@RiOtProphecy for example
h1{
color:red;
}
h1{
color:green;
}

the first statement of css will set the h1 tag text into color red, and if you put another h1 tag with another color of the text called green, it will override the first you declare

try it

jsonxamarin/xamarin-android@a16673d has what you're looking for, you're also skipping the first item inside the nested array. It may be perhaps you're ending your loop to prematurely. Try setting i>=0 instead of i >0

Do you recommended to use a section tag like <header> or <section>, aginst simple <div>?
Ryan
@Saleop
Aug 23 2016 09:03
Try to use semantic elements like <header> or <section> if it makes sense. Use <div> if it's purely for styling purposes
Todd
@TheOnlyRealTodd
Aug 23 2016 09:04
@Saleop can you go into the difference between those a little more?
is a semantic element essentially the same as a div just renamed>?
Do you ever apply styles to semantic elements?
Ryan
@Saleop
Aug 23 2016 09:05
Technically, yes
They're all the same on a technical level.. They have different names for the sake of semantic readability
Todd
@TheOnlyRealTodd
Aug 23 2016 09:05
Gotcha.
Ryan
@Saleop
Aug 23 2016 09:06
You can apply styles to all the semantic elements just as you would to <div>
Todd

Thanks

@pawelrus91
Aug 23 2016 09:08
@TheOnlyRealTodd I don't sure, but i hear that semantic element sometimes dont work good in for exaplses IE webbroser, i must remember about use a display: block; atributes on you CSS for semantic element
Sorry, about my english, but i was hope that u undesrtand that
Ryan
@Saleop
Aug 23 2016 09:11
yeah that's a good point.. Older browsers might not recognize them
Paweł
@pawelrus91
Aug 23 2016 09:11
@TheOnlyRealTodd You can read more about semantic tag hear https://www.w3.org/TR/html-markup/elements-by-function.html
Ryan
@Saleop
Aug 23 2016 09:11
but i think normalize and reset.css both explicitly make all the semantic structural elements as display: block;

@akashfoss you declare a class in a stylesheet by putting a . in front of it i.e .myClass{color:red} for example

Hello guys :)
i have a question. when you want to add image, in which site do you upload your photo ?

<img src="https://www.your-image-source.com/your-image.jpg">

what is your src ?

whats the best i can use ?
michaeldel
@michaeldel
Aug 23 2016 11:34
Your own host, you may try for instance src="image.jpg" where image.jpg is located in the same folder as your html file.
This is called a relative path
And it is the way to go 99% of time.
Pavel Antonov
@pavel-antonov
Aug 23 2016 11:35
for example src="C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\pesho fotograf\1.jpg"
?

Aug 23 2016 11:35
Use a relative path, meaning a path relative to html file's location
It is preferred over absolute path like the own you wrote.
