Hey! I know this may be a little too much, but I need some help. I have to choose a project from a list for a programing subject in college and don't know if any of those are way to hard to code. I have to work on Python 2.7. I can choose between a program that makes a binary tree, a modem simulator, a newton-raphson method calculator for polynoms and a battleship game that has to allow 2 players to play on python online using sockets. Any help on which is harder and which is easier would be huge, thanks before hand!

Aug 30 2016 01:34

@kirkley01 just do as the instruction said

  • Create a class called smaller-image and use it to resize the image so that it's only 100 pixels wide.

in your style section

<style>
...

.smaller-image{
width: 100px;
}
</style>

then apply it to the <img> using the class attribute

Margaret
@Margaret2
Aug 30 2016 01:35

@kirkley01 Within the style tags:

.smaller-image {
width: 100px;
}

then...

<img class="smaller-image" src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. ">

Nest an Anchor Element within a Paragraph
JCVT0102
@JCVT0102
Aug 30 2016 03:34
hello. I was wondering if I may get some advice. Basically my challenge calls for the following

You need an a element that links to "http://www.freecatphotoapp.com". = OK
Your a element should have the anchor text of "cat photos" = OK
Create a new p element around your a element. = OK
Your a element should be nested within your new p element. = Ok
Your p element should have the text "View more " (with a space after it). = Issue
This is the part I’ running into a problem. My understanding is that using the space bar won’t create a space. I was thinking the command. I thought command =   will create the space but it is not working. Is there another way to create a space after text “View more”

Your a element should not have the text "View more". = OK
Make sure each of your p elements has a closing tag. = OK
Make sure each of your a elements has a closing tag. = OK

I can paste the entire html.. but here is the section I believe may be wrong but can't figure it ou
<p> 'View more'

Emphasize the text in your target4 button by adding HTML tags.
Make sure the text is otherwise unchanged.
Do not alter any other text.
Make sure you are using .html() and not .text().
Make sure to select button id="target4" with jQuery.

    }
    </style>
  • need only one set of style tags - take the code from the 2nd on & place it in the 1st set of style tags

  • use a ; to separate class & src.

I have a quick question, hopefully someone can help.
Your h1 element should have the class pink-text.
Your <style> should have a pink-text CSS class with its color set to pink.
Your h1 element should be pink.

  • using Shift + enter will give you additional line feeds (space) for pasting your code. also, the backticks (`) key is located to the left of the number one (#1) key.
  • you may find the two buttons (chat/compose & markdown - the chat/compose button alternates modes) to the right of the text entry area helpful.
  • you can also edit (reply, quote, edit, delete) text after it's been entered by clicking on the three (3) dots to the right of the text entry area (it will appear when you hover to the right of the time stamp). or, you can press the up arrow/key.

Norvin Burrus
@ndburrus
Aug 30 2016 06:30

@aaquibladiwala :sparkles:

  • .orange-text should be #orange-text
    reference example code format/syntax, here:

    #brown-text {
    color: brown;
    }
  • remove this class="orange-text from the h1 element.

  • add an id (of orange-text) to h1 element.

the lesson is testing if a css class (with an id) will override regular css class styling.

@ndburrus quick question
on all these lessons the code looks garbled and the brackets are arranged on their own seperate line breaks. is it better to clean this up and move code into manageable chunks or is it specifically laid out this way as some sort of advanced tool im not familiar with yet?

hey guys, I ran into another hiccup I cant seem to figure out.
Give the submit button in your form the classes btn btn-primary.
Add a <i class="fa fa-paper-plane"></i> within your submit button element.
Give the text input in your form the class form-control.
Make sure each of your i elements has a closing tag.
Crazy</label>
</div>
</div>
<input class="form-control" placeholder="cat photo URL" required>
<button class="btn btn-primary"><i class="fa fa-paper-plane"></i> Submit</button>

@JCassetti I know what you mean. That is how most code is written, you will find it becomes necessary when you start moving on to more complex nested coding. Such as for loops etc, You will have multiple brackets within brackets and to have it all in one line makes it very hard going forward. Try get used to the format, I also battled a little at first

  • what kind of comparison are we trying to do?
    hint: see function name:isLess :)
Ahmed Tarek
@ahmedtarek2134
Aug 30 2016 07:06

Since === returns true or false, we can return the result of the comparison:

function isEqual(a,b) {
return a === b;
}
Instructions
Fix the function isLess to remove the if/else statements.

Graeme
@geeceeza
Aug 30 2016 08:28

@chrisddoug "You can start a comment with <!-- and end a comment with -->

so you would need to add <!-- to the begin of the items you want commented and ---> to the end

If you get inches and find feet from them, then you should say how many feet you have in provided inches. If you would pass feet (from the input) then it would be vice versa (count inches, and say how many inches in feet)
