@theharshitgarg I copied and pasted the example text in the problem statement, so the syntax is all correct. I was just wondering why it is the way it is, since the statement doesn't explain every part of the code

@theharshitgarg Yes, I know that. My question is not about getting the problem correct. I simply do not understand the reasoning behind the syntax used in this problem. I've been shown that # is used to refer to classes, but here it's a dot operator. etc.

  • remove this (bottom of code):
    <img class= thick-green-border {border-color: green;
    border-width: 10px;
    border-style: solid;}
    what you're doing here (above) is already accomplished with the class in the style element.
  • need thick-green-border in img tag. keep only the 1st img tag. you can have multiple classes within imgtag. place all classes within a single set of quotes.

ahh..how does my page look like then? When I see it in "full" everything is slanted to the left (my images) and there's a lot of white space after them. On my "pen" I adjusted everything from the aspect ratio I was using (900p-980p) to make my first two images centered etc

I have a bit of a problem I can't wrap my head around.

How do I select a value from a table in a SQL database, assign that value to a variable in php, and the insert that variable into another table in the same database?

I have my SQL query that I know works on it own. And I have a insert query/php that works. So how do I assign a sql value into a php variable?

@jpbnois your column sum should be 12, your grid system wasn't right
@esselhayes @jpbnois you are welcome :smile:
Margaret
@Margaret2
Sep 02 2016 01:32
@jpbnois if you have col-md-6, you will need col-md-offset-3
because it has to add up to 12: 3+6+3 = 12
is it working now?
jpbnois
@jpbnois
Sep 02 2016 01:33
it wasn't working when I did offset-2..so let me try 3
Margaret
@Margaret2
Sep 02 2016 01:33
offset-2 only works for 8 columns, because again it has to add up to 12: 2+8+2 = 12 @jpbnois

it isn't working with col-md-offset-3..but it worked when I left it at just col-md-offset..weird
it isn't centered when I use offset-3.
Margaret
@Margaret2
Sep 02 2016 01:36
@jpbnois did you want those first two images to be on the same line?
jpbnois
@jpbnois
Sep 02 2016 01:37
yes
horizontally
Margaret
@Margaret2
Sep 02 2016 01:37
Because since they are both col-6, you don't need an offset, because 6+6 = 12, so they should be fine without an offset
jpbnois
@jpbnois
Sep 02 2016 01:37
lol..guess I didn't really specify then
Margaret
@Margaret2
Sep 02 2016 01:37
sorry
jpbnois
@jpbnois
Sep 02 2016 01:37
but when I didn't put -offset it wasn't centered..now it is?
go check
Margaret
@Margaret2
Sep 02 2016 01:39
i tried removing the offset from the first img and it seems fine @jpbnois
@jpbnois when you originally posted the pen, you had those images with two classes, in one window size they were col-6, in another they were col-4. Since you fixed that now, it shouldn't be an issue
jpbnois
@jpbnois
Sep 02 2016 01:41
argh..both images were horizontal a second ago..now it isn't.
Margaret
@Margaret2
Sep 02 2016 01:42
@jpbnois you just changed them to col-8, if you want them on the same line, they have to be col-6 with no offset
because 2+8+2+8 = 20, greater than 12, so they won't fit @jpbnois
everything has to add up to 12
jpbnois
@jpbnois
Sep 02 2016 01:43
yeah I got it. it's fixed now :)
Margaret
@Margaret2
Sep 02 2016 01:44

jpbnois
@jpbnois
Sep 02 2016 01:44
One last question..notice how my second thumbnail with "the colored comet" caption is slightly longer than the one adjacent to it..how do I fix that?
Margaret
@Margaret2
Sep 02 2016 01:44
manually set their height in css
jpbnois
@jpbnois
Sep 02 2016 01:45
how do I specify the second thumbnails class?
or do I just do it as thumbnail?
Margaret
@Margaret2
Sep 02 2016 01:47
well, .thumbnail would apply to both the thumbnails, so you would have to add an id or a class to the second one if you wanted to target it separately
i'm working on it, i'll let you know if i hit on the solution
jpbnois
@jpbnois
Sep 02 2016 01:47
alright, i'll try to see if I can do it too
Margaret
@Margaret2
Sep 02 2016 01:50

@jpbnois

.thumbnail {
height:800px;
}

lines up the bottom of the whole thing, but caption is still off somewhat

Use the jQuery addClass() function to give the classes animated and shake to all your elements with the class well.

yoloJason
@yoloJason
Sep 02 2016 01:54
nvm i got it
jpbnois
@jpbnois
Sep 02 2016 01:54
i think it just might be the image on the right being a little bigger
Margaret
@Margaret2
Sep 02 2016 01:56
@jpbnois well yes, it is bigger, I think the problem is that the caption element is inside the thumbnail element. To line it up, you would have to take it out of the thumbnail element, but then you lose the nice white background and border.
So you would have to create a div that contains both the image and the caption and recreate that border yourself in css
jpbnois
@jpbnois
Sep 02 2016 01:57
yeah, i'm too much of a novice to be worrying about small things like this right now :)

how to revise
LPR-309
@LPR-309
Sep 02 2016 03:25

@chrisddoug Okay. To make the image smaller, first, we're going to declare a class that sets a static width value (in this case 100 pixels). You do that in the <style> element. The example is:

<style>
  .larger-image {
    width: 500px;
  }
</style>

So you'll want to create a smaller-image class (classes start with a . in the <style> tags) and assign a width property of 100px to it, just like that. ^

  • ok, we need to apply the example code format/syntax here:
    <form action="/url-where-you-want-to-submit-form-data"></form>
  • specifically, we need to handle the opening form tag.
    this: action="/submit-cat-photo", goes in the opening form tag.

@LPR-309
Sep 02 2016 03:27
@chrisddoug Then, after that, you have to add the class to the html element you want to style. So you would want to go to your <img> element, and add the class= attribute to it with the class you want to add it. So for the example they gave you, it'd look like this:
<img class="larger-image" src="theaddressetc.html">

you probably need to do some pseudo code on these 2 first:
"If firstName does not correspond to any contacts then return "No such contact"

If prop does not correspond to any valid properties then return "No such property""

mine has these vars in the function.. I did it quite a while ago so i'm assuming they're the ones given in the exercise when you start?

you need to create a second class, similar to the example given @chrisddoug, then apply it to the img tag
the example is for a red border, but your class you will want a green border thats a little thicker (instead of 5px like it is for the example you want to give it 10)

bootstrap is a CSS Framework @Condell , when you add them it will style the HTML for you too so you don't have to write any of it
a little simpler to explain concepts when you can abstract some of the style work
Michael Akinlaby
@Akinlaby
Sep 02 2016 06:50
@coymeetsworld Nice answer. But what if I don't like the default colors. I'll still have to change it in <style> right?
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 02 2016 06:51
yes @Akinlaby, or if you wanted you can customize bootstrap yourself
if you go to the getbootstrap website there's a section where you can change default values and download the modified css file for use in projects
Cody
@Condell
Sep 02 2016 06:51
@coymeetsworld I mean from an accessibility standpoint though. I understand it's a framework and will style stuff, but shouldn't the tutorials be updated to reflect this stuff?

accessibility in what context @Condell ?

since this cirruculum is having us focus on javascript/html/css/jquery and most front-end stuff, and beginners should stick to one language at first, pretty much anything on those three.

return item; // Change this line
}

// Test Setup
var testArr = [1,2,3,4,5];

// Display Code
console.log("Before: " + JSON.stringify(testArr));
console.log(nextInLine(testArr, 6)); // Modify this line to test
console.log("After: " + JSON.stringify(testArr));

I think I missed something. Or messed it up.
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 02 2016 07:38
@a4baks so you don't want to define a new array or hardcode values
nextInLine takes 2 arguments, arr which is the array you're going to modify, and item which is what you're adding to the array
also you're calling the array the same thing as the function name which I think can cause problems
but you don't need that anyways so remove it, just use arr and item in your nextInLine function

Hey, i´m stuck at setting font size to 16px:
<style>
.red-text {color: red;}
.p {
font-size: 16px;
}
</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<p class="red-text">Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.</p>
<p>Purr jump eat the grass rip the couch scratched sunbathe, shed everywhere rip the couch sleep in the sink fluffy fur catnip scratched.</p>

Is it me or this " Browser and Text zoom should be at 100%. " ?

You should only be targeting one element and adding only one class at a time. Altogether, your three individual selectors will end up adding the three classes shake, animated, and btn-primary to #target1.
Only add one class with each of your three selectors.

Use Responsive Design with Bootstrap Fluid Containers
In the HTML5 and CSS section of FreeCodeCamp we built a Cat Photo App. Now let's go back to it. This time, we'll style it using the popular Bootstrap responsive CSS framework.

Bootstrap will figure out how wide your screen is and respond by resizing your HTML elements - hence the name Responsive Design.

With responsive design, there is no need to design a mobile version of your website. It will look good on devices with screens of any width.

You can add Bootstrap to any app by adding the following code to the top of your HTML:

<link rel="stylesheet" href="//maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.1/css/bootstrap.min.css"/>

In this case, we've already added it for you to this page behind the scenes.

To get started, we should nest all of our HTML in a div element with the class container-fluid.

completely lost....
what should I do here?

Hi guys. I'm having a frustrating problem. Im trying to set the style of elements in CSS like this:

p,h1 {
color: #582f14;
text-align: center;
}

The problem is the text-align is being applied to p and h1 elements. However, the color is only being applied to p, not h1.
Through experimentation, I've discovered that if I put the h1 outside of the div class that it's in, the color will be applied. But the p is also inside the same div class and the color is being applied.
