@joanviani okay, there's a problem. The buttons you are asked to nest are radio buttons, they will be of the type
<input type="radio">
@joanviani and they will follow this structure
<div class="row">
<div class="col-xs-6">
//RADIO BUTTON 1
</div>
<div class="col-xs-6">
//RADIO BUTTON 2
</div>
</div>

OMG that's right
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Sep 04 2016 00:02
@joanviani basically, you're spreading out a radio button across 6 columns each, thereby, 2 radio buttons take up 12 columns of space on the page, which in bootstrap is one row
Joan Viani
@joanviani
Sep 04 2016 00:02
I get them confused sometimes

Exercise #42 give your div element a silver background in style
what I want to know is do I need open and closed tags in style?
what i have is div . silver-background{ background-color: silver; }
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 04 2016 00:12
you don't need div inside your style, and there shouldn't be a space between the dot and the classname
just like your other styles, you create a class, then give that class to an html element, in this case a div

so
you know you put your css in your style tags?
it is the same with script tags but script tags we write in them javascript
the document ready function tells the browser to excute all javascript when all the webpage has successfully loaded
here's an example
<script>
    $(document).ready(function() {
        // Javascript here
    });

@kaitlinmctigue The Math.random() part generates a random decimal between 0 and 1. The (max-min+1) part is used to establish a "range" that you're looking for, and the very last +min is necessary to bump the result up into that range. That was the way I interpreted it, at least

Challenge: Target the Parent of an Element Using jQuery

Instructions: Your left-well element should have a red background. You should use the .parent() function to modify this element. The .parent() method should be called on the #target1 element. Only use jQuery to add these classes to the element.

My Code:

<script>
  $(document).ready(function() {
    $("#target1").css("color", "red");
    $("#target1").prop("disabled", true);
    $("#target4").remove();
    $("#target2").appendTo("#right-well");
    $("#target5").clone().appendTo("#left-well");
    $("#target1").parent().css("background-color", "red")
  });
</script>
<!-- Only change code above this line. -->

<body>

in CSS how to degrade from font-family: Lobster to Monospace?
calliyou
@koolkobe345
Sep 04 2016 02:21

i need help with this emember that in order to start a comment, you need to use <!-- and to end a comment, you need to use -->

Here you'll need to end the comment before your h2 element begins.

Comment out your h1 element and your p element, but leave your h2 element uncommented.

Run tests (ctrl + enter)
Reset Help Bug
Comment out your h1 element so that it is not visible on your page.
Leave your h2 element uncommented so that it is visible on your page.
Comment out your p element so that it is not visible on your page.
Be sure to close each of your comments with -->.
Do not change the order of the h1 h2 or p in the code.

Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 04 2016 02:32
@koolkobe345 you basically want to remove all the <!-- and --> from the code
anything between that is a comment in your code, and isn't actually rendered in a browser

Abdullah Al-Weheid

Sep 04 2016 02:36
@koolkobe345 you should just put '<!--' and '-->' for h1 and p
jadefox10200

Lobster is the name of a font and Monospace is also one but it's built-in on your computer.

so your code should be <!-- h1 --> h2(Without <!-- --> ) <!-- p -->

calliyou
@koolkobe345
Sep 04 2016 02:55
thank you, I just did it earlier.

With CSS, there are hundreds of CSS properties that you can use to change the way an element looks on your page.

When you entered <h2 style="color: red">CatPhotoApp</h2>, you were giving that individual h2 element an inline style.

That's one way to add style to an element, but a better way is by using CSS, which stands for Cascading Style Sheets.

At the top of your code, create a style element like this:

<style>
</style>
Inside that style element, you can create a CSS selector for all h2 elements. For example, if you wanted all h2 elements to be red, your style element would look like this:

<style>
h2 {color: red;}
</style>
Note that it's important to have both opening and closing curly braces ({ and }) around each element's style. You also need to make sure your element's style is between the opening and closing style tags. Finally, be sure to add the semicolon to the end of each of your element's styles.

can you help me with this too Delete your h2 element's style attribute and instead create a CSS style element. Add the necessary CSS to turn all h2 elements blue.

Run tests (ctrl + enter)
Reset Help Bug
Remove the style attribute from your h2 element.
Create a style element.
Your h2 element should be blue.
Ensure that your stylesheet h2 declaration is valid with a semicolon and closing brace.
Make sure all your style elements are valid and have a closing tag.

Since you are returning result, you need to put the value into result. The variable you want to change always goes on the left of the '=' sign as in line 4

@luismezmons73r you're selecting the wrong class name in your CSS
Lawrence Eagles
@lawrenceagles
Sep 04 2016 05:23
@luismezmons73r the problem is in your naming. you named your class thin-green-border and you seem to declare the class as thick-green-border in your image.

Lawrence Eagles
@lawrenceagles
Sep 04 2016 05:26
@mils100 it happen like that. normally it would end with > at the start as <h2> but if you want to add attributes to the element e.g a class attribute or and id attribute then it becomes <h2 class="ClassName" id="id-Name"> the other cases are if you want to add attribute to the element. I hope this helps. cheers.

@mils100 Now reading your questiong again if you mean <h2></h2> and other times <img> the <img> is an example of an empty element much like <br> that is just how they are written they are exception to the whole <opening>...<closing> tag HTML rule. let me know if this helps. cheers.

From what I understand @mils100 question is why sometimes there is text inside of an h1 tag other than just the tag itself.
like: <h1 class="red-text">Text</h1>
in that example: why class="red-text"
Lawrence Eagles
@lawrenceagles

This is for bootstrap headline. I'm trying to add text-primary and text center.
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 04 2016 06:42
@Tillix for instance these: .text-primary and .text-center are classes and are usually outside {}'s
LPR-309
@LPR-309
Sep 04 2016 06:42
@Tillix Text-primary and text-center classes are already predefined in Bootstrap, so you don't need to add properties to them (unless they're specifically asking you to). You just need to assign those in the html with the class attribute
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 04 2016 06:43

Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 04 2016 06:44
@Tillix and as @LPR-309 said, these look very much like bootstrap style so you would not have to create the CSS part, but refer to them in the thing you wanted them to affect like so: class="text-primary" and/or class="text-center"
@Tillix assuming you have the Bootstrap link in your code
@Tillix so let's say I wanted a paragraph centered.. following all the things I mentioned above I'd do it like so:
<style>
h3 {
color:blue;
}
</style>
<h3> jQuery Playground</h3>
<p class="text-center">This text should be centered</p>

i have a problem with this exercise
Change Text Inside an Element Using jQuery
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#target1").css("color", "red");
$("#target4").html();

});
</script>
Emphasize the text in your target4 button by adding HTML tags.
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 04 2016 07:15
@ahren3 anything you put inside the .html() will be added to teh #target4 element and any <htmlStuff> in it will also be treated as html...
@ahren3 I htink you also have to do it in "" inside the ()
@ahren3 so now the question is what's inside the #target4 (it's a button right?) as test and how does one 'emphasize' text.

@J4yKay bootstrap isn't built into CSS
you can do whatever you want
the "preset grid" you're talking about doesn't exist

@llamatarianism That's just not true, Some things just don't have an effective result.

J4yKay
@J4yKay

llamatarianism
@llamatarianism
Sep 04 2016 09:19

because if you're saying this

bootstrap isn't built into CSS

ain't true, then I really don't know what to say

@J4yKay the answer you're looking for is no
bootstrap doesn't provide half-size classes or quarter-size classes or whatever-size classes
keep in mind, bootstrap isn't magic. it just adds some extra CSS.

and you could just do:

<style>
.italic {
  font-style: italic;
  display: inline;
}
</style>
<p>foo <div class="italic">bar</div> baz</p>

and I think it'd work

Hi i have done challenge but I dont understand why this code output is 20 in that Iterate Through an Array with a For Loop challenge
var myArr = [ 2, 3, 4, 5, 6];
var total = 0;
for (var i = 0; i < myArr.length; i++) {
  total += myArr[i];
}

Sep 04 2016 10:48
@Yovvel yes but how ?
Joffrey Nolting
@Yovvel
Sep 04 2016 10:48
@osmankale with i++ you make i one point higher and with each point higher in it it will take a number from myArr.
myArr[0]= 2 myArr[1]= 3
@osmankale with total += myArr[i] it will add that number to the variable total

and with each loop the i gets one higher, so total += myArr[i] will start with total += myArr[0]and the 2nd time it will be total += myArr[1]
Darth Skywalker
@adityaparab
Sep 04 2016 10:52

@osmankale : You're starting with i=0and you're running your loop till i<myArr.length. (myArr.length is 5 for there are 5 elements in myArr)

in 1st iteration
i=0 so myArr[0] = 2 therefore total = total + myArr[0] hence total = 0+2 | total = 2

2nd iteration
i=1 so myArr[1] = 3 therefore total = total + myArr[0] hence total = 2+3 | total = 5

3rd iteration
i=2 so myArr[2] = 4 therefore total = total + myArr[0] hence total = 5+4 | total = 9

4th iteration
i=3 so myArr[3] = 5 therefore total = total + myArr[0] hence total = 9+5 | total = 14

5th iteration
i=4 so myArr[4] = 6 therefore total = total + myArr[0] hence total = 14+6 | total = 20

6th iteration
i=5 but i<myArr.length is false so your loop stops and your total becomes 20
