@gs-developer the <link> is what you would put in your html, to import a style sheet into your html... an @import expression allows you to import a css stylesheet into another css style sheet... read more here https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/@import

@Marmiz
Sep 05 2016 03:32

@Samrezkhan you have declared the property here:

.silver-background {
background-color: silver;
}

but never assigned to anything.
To assign the css property simply add it as a class as you did for the image here img class="smaller-image thick-green-border"

p.s. if you want your code to be more readable in chat, place it in between three " ``` " :)

how do you use CSS selectors to style elements
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Sep 05 2016 03:39

@nicketa96 You first declare the style property in the <style> section:

.blue-bg {
background-color: blue
}

Then you assign that property to any element you like :)

<div class="blue-bg"></div>
<p class="blue-bg"></p>
@nicketa96 here you can find a list of css selectors http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/css_selectors.asp

Hey guys, I can’t figure out why my lines at the top aren’t corresponding to those on the bottom. It was originally when there was only one col in the row. http://codepen.io/J4yKay/pen/YWmERz
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Sep 05 2016 03:59
@J4yKay by a quick inspection on the console I have noticed that the 4 images have different size.
That may be the reason.
For instance the Gryffindor is 180 x 189.56 while the Slytherin is 180 x 186
J4yKay
@J4yKay
Sep 05 2016 04:00
@Marmiz Shouldn’t that only affect the bottom tho?
My problem is with the top lines starting earlier on the left
because my first row is in a completely different container than the one that contains the images
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Sep 05 2016 04:02
@J4yKay Oh sorry, I thought you meant the bottom lines (which btw I see them not aligned). I'll have a loot at the top one... I've missed that :)

@J4yKay Found it! You have nested a second <container-fluid> inside the first one.
Remove the second one and you'll see the top rows aligning
J4yKay
@J4yKay
Sep 05 2016 04:07
@Marmiz Isn’t that a second container fluid?
I believe it is outside of the other.
So what I have is container-fluid -> col-xs-3 three times and then after I have the same thing

@J4yKay The issue occurs because the second container is nested inside the first container. either you place it outside, or the second one is like a 'box in a box'

@brattana first of all you have the h2 tag in your style , should be .red-text not h2.red-text

they are not separate.
By the way it's structured now you have:
<div container>
  <div row>
  </div> //end of row
  <div container>  // is still inside the 1st container

Create a class called silver-background with the background-color of silver. Assign this class to your div element.

<link href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Lobster" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">

<style>
.red-text {
color: red;

h2 {
font-family: Lobster, Monospace;

.thick-green-border {
border-color: green;
border-width: 10px;
border-style: solid;
border-radius: 50%;

.smaller-image {
width: 100px;

@J4yKay No problem! glad to help.
If I may, the best thing you can do to step up your coding skills is to ALWAYS comment.
It's so important either for yourself and other who will read, debug or develop your code.

I know it sound stupid to comment a code you are writing for yourself... but do it for the sake of automating the habit.
For instance while doing my html I always open a tag, close it and comment under what I'm closing :)

<div id="main">

</div>
<-- /main -->

So when you start building up block you'll always have tracks of your pieces :)

Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Sep 05 2016 05:04

@wontewthrie JQuery requires selectors to work, the same way that css does.
So writhing this $("button") won't work... because you're not selecting anything.
If it's an id use #, if it's a class use . .... the same way css does.

for exeample:

$("#button").addClass("animated bounce");
@wontewthrie In this case, since button is an html element you can access it just with this notation:
$("button").addClass("animated bounce");
sorry for the confusion :)

hey I need some help... I am working on the Add Borders Around Your Elements exercise. Five things need to be accomplished. 1.Your img element should have the class smaller-image.
  1. Your img element should have the class thick-green-border.
  2. Give your image a border width of 10px.
  3. Give your image a border style of solid.
  4. The border around your img element should be green.
#1 and #2 were accomplished but I can not figure out where I screwed up for #3 - #5

@igloo-codes think as the term "zero-index" as "start counting from 0".
Usually when a human is asked to count to 10 he will go: " 1, 2, 3, ...."
Zero index means it will start counting to 10 as: " 0, 1, 2, 3..."

  • ok, we need to do 2 things:
    a) create a .smaller-image class within the style element, and
    for this, we can follow the format/syntax of the example code, here:
    <style>
    .larger-image {
      width: 500px;
    }
    </style>
    b) use the/a smaller-image (notice there is no dot/period preceding the class name) class in the element (img).
    for this part, we can review the lesson Use a CSS Class to Style an Element
    to see the code format/syntax, here:

@ferroid can you post your code? :)
@ferroid '''
  • using Shift + enter will give you additional line feeds (space) for pasting your code. also, the backticks (`) key is located to the left of the number one (# 1) key.
  • you may find the two buttons (chat/compose & markdown - the chat/compose button alternates modes) to the right of the text entry area helpful.
  • you can also edit (reply, quote, edit, delete) text after it's been entered by clicking on the three (3) dots to the right of the text entry area (it will appear when you hover to the right of the time stamp). or, you can press the up arrow/key.

@ferroid you have to add class to your img element as <img class="smaller-image" src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. "> and then add .smaller-image { width: 100px; } to the style

Sep 05 2016 08:27
@Ynraw p2 is not a tag , you have to write another p for p2 :D
Pinedab
@pinedab
Sep 05 2016 08:27
try removing the '2' from p and giving it an id. for ex id = "stuff" then in your style tags have #stuff { selector: value;}
