How can I limit animating margin-left with jQuery? I want a div to stop when it REACHES 0px margin-left. I've tried something like this, but it checks the margin BEFORE animating the div, so it can go past the limit.
if (margin < 0) {
  $divToMove.filter(':not(:animated)').animate({
     marginLeft: '+=100px'
  }, 700);
}

Sep 09 2016 00:10
@JustinSteele02 maybe while loop?
Sabrina Ferguson
@itsacoyote
Sep 09 2016 00:12
@JustinSteele02 I think what I usually do there is calculate how far it is from 0px, so in that example, if you have "margin" to see if it is in a spot that needs to be animated, then use margin in place of that 100px

@8lackie with element in CSS you target every element of that type. With class is different, you name it yourself and apply attribute class="your name" to the specific element you want

David Cejas

Sep 09 2016 01:13
@Margaret2 Give a Background Color to a Div Element
@Margaret2 Do i place this inside my style element?
Margaret
@Margaret2
Sep 09 2016 01:14
@dcejas yes, you need to create a class named .silver-background and put it in the style tags
David Cejas
@dcejas
Sep 09 2016 01:14
@Margaret2 it says place it inside my div, but how? I tried adding a style element inside my div. Didn't work
Margaret
@Margaret2
Sep 09 2016 01:14
@dcejas no, put the class inside the already existing style tags
David Cejas
@dcejas
Sep 09 2016 01:15

@Margaret2 ```

<style>
.red-text {
color: red;
}

h2 {
font-family: Lobster, Monospace;
}

p {
font-size: 16px;
font-family: Monospace;
}

.thick-green-border {
border-color: green;
border-width: 10px;
border-style: solid;
border-radius: 50%;
}

.smaller-image {
width: 100px;
}
.silver-background {
background-color: silver;
}
.silver-background {
background-color: silver;
}

</style>```

@Margaret2 bad, unless you want to become the AI :smile:
Margaret
@Margaret2
Sep 09 2016 01:15
@dcejas to apply it to your div, you use <div class="classNameHere">
@dcejas that looks right, just you only need one .silver-background class, not two
oh it's all good then... :laughing: @Manish-Giri
David Colclasure
@dcolclasure
Sep 09 2016 01:16
instead of saying "border-color: green;" it should say "border-color: silver;" @dcejas
David Cejas
@dcejas
Sep 09 2016 01:16

@Margaret2 sorry that was a mistake. ```

<style>
.red-text {
color: red;
}

h2 {
font-family: Lobster, Monospace;
}

p {
font-size: 16px;
font-family: Monospace;
}

.thick-green-border {
border-color: green;
border-width: 10px;
border-style: solid;
border-radius: 50%;
}

.smaller-image {
width: 100px;
}
.silver-background {
background-color: silver;
}
</style>
```
Margaret
@Margaret2
Sep 09 2016 01:17
@dcejas that is correct. now you need to put class="silver-background" in your div
and you do not need to change border color @dcejas
Sep 09 2016 02:03
@divined45 that looks right. now you need to add class="smaller-image" to your img tag
you have to define the class in the style tags, then you have to go add it where you want it to show up @divined45
working yet?
if not, paste your whole code so i can see the context pls
@ndebenedetti
$(document).ready(function() {
code
});
What that's basically saying is use jQuery ($) to target the document, and when it's ready (fully loaded) , run an unnamed function as a callback (a little more advanced concept, you'll learn about them later in projects). Basically, anything inside the { } brackets is a part of that function, and therefore, since that function only runs when the the document is ready, all the code inside there does the same.
Hi guys, I'm trying to complete this https://codepen.io/FreeCodeCamp/full/NNvBQW/
challenge right now and I'm trying to put a caption under my image but I can't figure out how to get the caption within the border and I'd rather somebody explain it to me than cheat and look at the example code. Is the image not supposed to be within a border? I read somewhere Googling for solutions just now that it's impossible to put anything on top of a border.
If you want your code to resize you want the "container" to be "fluid".. Basically re-size to fit your mobile device.
If you don't want that you just drop the fluid" part
@dcolclasure That would have taken me a lifetime to figure out. The example they give in the lesson is nothing like that. They offer an example within a <style> element. I wonder if the creators of the Free Code Camp were purposefully vague in their examples so as to force novices like myself to come here for help?... :smile:
-Your p element should contain the first few words of the provided additional kitty ipsum text.
-The first p element should have the class red-text.
-Do not add a class attribute to the second p element.
Between the style tags, give the p elements font-size of 16px. Browser and Text zoom should be at 100%.
@DavidDarius A couple of feedbaks :)
From a UX / UI point of view, your site is mainly text, and you have used a small font, with no letter spacing making it really hard to read.
Moreover in your about session there's a huge wall of text... (like really hudge!)
Always keep in mind that the user won't read any of that!
Second you may want to consider adding some padding from your nav buttons and the div that show them below just for aesthetic.
With that in mind it works so it's good... take mine as suggestion for future 'real word' website :) :clap:
