can you <div></div> within the style element?
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:02
@leonal92 good catch! yah the exercise wants you to div all the html
Ahmed Tarek
@ahmedtarek2134
Sep 11 2016 00:02
@leonal92 no you can't
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:02
@leonal92 the <style></style> represents the CSS part
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:03
oh gotcha @ahmedtarek2134 @DarrenfJ
one of the instructions says

Create a class called silver-background with the background-color of silver. Assign this class to your div element.
so this would be outside/seperate from style?
``
<style>

.silver-background {
  background-color: silver;
}
  .red-text {
    color: red;
  }
little stumped here :frowning:
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:04
@leonal92 you gotta add it in both
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:05
add both of?
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:05
add it in the CSS with a . (dot) before the name and in the HTML to the <element> you want it to affect
@leonal92 you create the class in the CSS and add it to the html element you want to affect with that class
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:06
gotcha gotcha
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:06
what does it ask you to make silver?
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:06
background
KeatonZ
@KeatonZ
Sep 11 2016 00:06
Your a element should be a dead link with a href attribute set to "#".
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:06
Give your div element the class silver-background.
Your div element should have a silver background.
KeatonZ
@KeatonZ
Sep 11 2016 00:06
I dont understand how to do so.
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:06
yeah @KeatonZ it is
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:06
@leonal92 so you need to add the class to the <div>
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:06
oh okay lets see
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 00:06
@KeatonZ you need to replace the URL with a # instead to do that
i.e. the http://www.....
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 11 2016 00:07
@DarrenfJ You familiar with C at all?
KeatonZ
@KeatonZ
Sep 11 2016 00:07
ph
oh*
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:07
@KeatonZ you can do all kinds of fun stuff with the # to nav on a page too: http://help.typepad.com/anchor-tags.html
KeatonZ
@KeatonZ
Sep 11 2016 00:07
okay thanks
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:07
@jadefox10200 in 1998 lol!
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:08
so to create a class guys
it would be
well to divide it would be <div></div>
how do you create the class, again?
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:08
@leonal92 they probably give you a sample of the syntax for adding it to the hml tpart too
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 11 2016 00:08
@DarrenfJ lol. Ok, I'll post the code and see what you say:
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:08
yeah my html is still deadlink from previous
but i'm not sure if its necessary to change it right now
since it's only asking for background
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:09

@leonal92 if i want to added a class called .className to an <h2> element I would go:

<h2 class="className">

jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 11 2016 00:09
for (int i = 0; i < n; i++){ if (array[i] > brray[i]){ alice++; }else if (array[i] < brray[i]){ bob++; } } printf("%d %d", alice, bob);
This prints out "3 3" and should print "1 1 ".
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:09
@jadefox10200 I think these FCC gitters have rooms for different languages
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:09
@DarrenfJ yah ill try that
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 11 2016 00:10
fair enough. You're right. shouldn't mix it.
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 00:10
@leonal92 red-text was a class you created/used earlier. You define the class inside the <style> tags and assign them to your html tags with the class attribute
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 11 2016 00:10
Honestly, new to gitter so I'll snoop around.
@jadefox10200 but honsetly my C is so rusty it's non-existant now
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 00:11
@jadefox10200 theres not enough info there either, would need entire code
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 11 2016 00:11
Because C is ancient...
@coymeetsworld Yeah, probably the wrong place to post it though. as @DarrenfJ pointed out.
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:12
@jadefox10200 I also haven;t used it since then.. and even then it was when i needed it for sciencey things.. we used it crunch numbers to figure out radio interference on antenna design
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:12
working on it haha one sec @DarrenfJ @coymeetsworld
i nailed one part of it
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 00:12
not what I meant @jadefox10200, just meant there isn't enough info in what you gave
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:12
@jadefox10200 you could probably post it here is someone can help you out.. but not sure i can :D
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:12
i'm working on giving my div element the class silver-bg
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 00:13
need to know the state of your variables
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:13
@leonal92 it looked like above you got the CSS part right
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:13
that should mean having <h3 class="silver-background"
inside my entire <div></div>
hmm
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 00:13
I could help with C maybe, did it a while ago but that code looks fairly simple
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:13
@leonal92 everyting but the <h3
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:13
ooh
KeatonZ
@KeatonZ
Sep 11 2016 00:13
Nest the existing img element within an a element.
huh?
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:14
@leonal92 i was using it as an example of how to add a class to anything html
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:14
lol
it worked actually for one of the instructions given @DarrenfJ
let me take the h3 out though
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 11 2016 00:14
@coymeetsworld Sure. The code is super simply but for some reason it's not doing what I expect. I assume my array syntax is wrong.
```int main(){
int alice = 0;
int bob = 0;
int a0;
int a1;
int a2;
scanf("%d %d %d",&a0,&a1,&a2);
int array[3];
array[0] = a0;
array1 = a1;
array[2] = a2;
int b0;
int b1;
int b2;
scanf("%d %d %d",&b0,&b1,&b2);
int brray[3];
brray[0] = a0;
brray1 = a1;
brray[2] = a2;
int n = sizeof(array);
for (int i = 0; i < n; i++){
if (array[i] > brray[i]){
alice++;
}else if (array[i] < brray[i]){
bob++;
}
}
printf("%d %d", alice, bob);
return 0;
}
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:14
you can go <p class="className"> to add it to paragraph
@leonal92 or <button class="className"> to add it to a button
or <h3 class="className"> to add it to a header
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 11 2016 00:15
The input is:
5 6 7
3 6 10
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:15
or <img class="className"> to add it to an image @leonal92
KeatonZ
@KeatonZ
Sep 11 2016 00:16
Nest the existing img element within an a element.
how do I do so?
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 00:17
@jadefox10200 does this compile? you dont define some of your variables, and you also seem to have alot of them
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:17
@KeatonZ what exercise is it again?
KeatonZ
@KeatonZ
Sep 11 2016 00:17
Nest the existing img element within an a element.
chunnali
@chunnali
Sep 11 2016 00:17
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 00:18
oh I see @DarrenfJ
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 11 2016 00:18
@coymeetsworld Yeah, it's crap code to put it bluntly.
I was bored so am doing something I don't usually touch.
Maybe not the best idea for a Saturday afternoon.
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:19
hm okay i think i'm still having trouble
here's my entire code
<h2 class="silver-background"
<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>
<p>Click here for <a href="#">cat photos</a>.</p>
<a href="#"><img class="smaller-image thick-green-border" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. "  src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat"></a>
<div>
  <p>Things cats love:</p>
well most of it
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 00:19
@leonal92 you want to apply the silver background class to the div
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:19
i've gotten the part with "your div element should have a silver background"
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:19
@leonal92 what do they ask you to make silver again? I thought yousaid it was the <div>?
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 00:19
not a h2 element
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:20
@KeatonZ sorry still lokking for oyu exercise
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:21
okay i'm gonna reset the code entirely
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:21
i'm getting the last part write for the wrong reasons (lol)
okay starting over
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 11 2016 00:21
@DarrenfJ Silver is supposed to be the first div
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:21
okay so to give my dev element to class silver background - i'd have to go into my p, right?
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 11 2016 00:22
@leonal92 No. You put the class into the div tag.
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 00:22
oh @jadefox10200, its you using sizeof
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:22
@KeatonZ they give you an example of syntax:
"Here's an example:
<a href="#"><img src="https://bit.ly/fcc-running-cats" alt="Three kittens running towards the camera. "></a>"
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:22
okay
<div><p class=silver-background>
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 11 2016 00:23
@leonal92 ie <div class="silver-background">
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:23
does it look like this?
woops
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 00:23
that doesn't give you length as you're expecting @jadefox10200, its giving you the space of the object. Since its 3 integers and each integer uses 4 bytes that returns 12
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 11 2016 00:23
You need to put in the actual div tag and not the p tag.
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:23
yeah
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:24
Sep 11 2016 00:25
@leonal92 from that link:
"The class Selector
The class selector selects elements with a specific class attribute.
To select elements with a specific class, write a period (.) character, followed by the name of the class.
In the example below, all HTML elements with class="center" will be red and center-aligned:
Example
.center {
    text-align: center;
    color: red;
}
Sep 11 2016 00:26
@coymeetsworld Is there an actual len() function baked into C that you know of?
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:26
my mistake was putting the div class inside the existing div instead of in front of it
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:27
@leonal92 and the html side of it: http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_classes.asp
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 00:27
don't believe so @jadefox10200
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:27
i'll definitely need this for later! a birdie told me in order to pass part of FCC - it's required to build your own website or something
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 00:28
if your input is always going to be integers you can get the length by dividing size of the array by 4, which is the size of an int
you'll make many projects in FCC @leonal92, the one they probably meant was the Portfolio page though
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:28
@leonal92 whenever you create a .className {doSomething:changeIt}; you need a corresponding class="className" inside an html <something> you want to affect
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 11 2016 00:29
@coymeetsworld That always annoyed me.
@coymeetsworld Where r u in the BayArea?
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 00:29
yeah well thats just how C is :). Doesn't give you alot of nice things but it has alot of power
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 11 2016 00:29
@leonal92 yah as @coymeetsworld said there's many projects to complete.. anything with an * is required... see the map
leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:31
yeah I like San Jose @jadefox10200 where are you at now?
@leonal92 won't find a shortage of jobs here anytime soon thats for sure :)
jadefox10200
@coymeetsworld LA. Don't ever move here.
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:32
yes!! @coymeetsworld although NYC is great and there's everything around here - the tech job opportunities are everywhere in the west coast. love it
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 00:32
hahaha not likely @jadefox10200, only thing I would like there is all the poker rooms
@leonal92 yeah and as far as it having relatively more jobs that won't change but alot of companies are expanding to other places
even in bay area alot of companies are moving eastward out of SF, just too expensive to be there
leonaaa
@leonaaa
Sep 11 2016 00:35
oooh yeahhh SF is sooo expensive @coymeetsworld
jadefox10200
@coymeetsworld Trying to get back into the tech world but I'm a bit all over the place to be honest. Working on C, Golang, Angular and a bunch of others. Need to actually settle in on something and get really good at it. Main reason I started freeCodeCamp. HTML/CSS/JS was always easy for me.
@leonal92 yeah its no joke, i don't think anyone that works in SF actually lives there
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 11 2016 00:36
@fbnsbd depends on the result you want. You can use float...
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
would it be--
.color-text {
@leonal92 she wants to create a class called pink text that changesthe color to pink
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 00:39
@jadefox10200 really depends on what you think you would want to work on. Good indicators are searching for languages in job boards, or checking whats Github projects
and that would be inside <style></style>
I have a question of how to set the ID of an element. I am trying to set the ID of an element and it shows to put <h2 id=cat-photo-app”> into the form element. What I am having trouble with is the placement of this line of code
Anyone know how to do this? I'm stuck.
Use the jQuery addClass() function to give the classes animated and shake to all your elements with the class well.
Only use jQuery to add these classes to the element.
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$("button").addClass("animated bounce");
});
</script>
<div class="container-fluid">
<h3 class="text-primary text-center">jQuery Playground</h3>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-xs-6">
<h4>#left-well</h4>
<div class="well" id="left-well">
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target1">#target1</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target2">#target2</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target3">#target3</button>
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-xs-6">
<h4>#right-well</h4>
<div class="well" id="right-well">
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target4">#target4</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target5">#target5</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target6">#target6</button>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
yeah so what you need to do is similar to the line $("button").addClass("animated bounce");
this code reads for all button tags, give it the classes animated, and bounce
so it turns <button> to <button class="animated bounce">
or if there are already classes just adds to them like with <button class="btn btn-default target" id="target1"> turns it into <button class="btn btn-default target animated bounce" id="target1">
Hi, I am on HTML now and cant find out how to add Borders Around your Elements
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 01:04
the line you need to add instead of buttons needs to target the class well, and instead of give it the classes animated and bounce give it animated and shake
@wnbaorbust does that make sense?
jadefox10200
$("well").addClass("animated shake");
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 01:06
close, the first part needs to be fixed
that would work if the tag was called well, but well isn't a tag, its a class
look back at the instructions:
"First, let's target your div elements with the class well by using the $(".well") selector."
wnbaorbust
@wnbaorbust
Sep 11 2016 01:08
@cleverchris
Sep 11 2016 01:08
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 01:08
no div is a tag, so it would just be $("div") if that's what you wanted, but that would target all divs
you want to target specifically the well class
Christopher Dulaney
@cleverchris
$(".well")
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 01:09
yep that should be it
so that would read target anything with the class well, and give it additional classes animated and shake
wnbaorbust
@wnbaorbust
Sep 11 2016 01:10
so its $(".well").addClass("animated shake");
Do I put that inside the script
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 01:11
yes @wnbaorbust, just put it right below your other addClass line
main point is its inside the document.ready function
i.e.
$(document).ready(function() {
  //all your JS code goes here
}
wnbaorbust
@wnbaorbust
Sep 11 2016 01:13
So (document) is the class is that correct
class name I mean
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 01:14
document is an object, its your DOM
wnbaorbust
@wnbaorbust
Sep 11 2016 01:15
DOM?
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 01:15
Document Object Model, its basically a representation of your web page
wnbaorbust
@wnbaorbust
Sep 11 2016 01:15
ok
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 01:16
its not entirely important you understand what that means, but basically what it means is it doesn't run any JavaScript until the page is completely loaded
wnbaorbust
@wnbaorbust
Sep 11 2016 01:16
ok
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 01:16
why thats' important is because some JS code like the code you're writing now relies on the HTML to be there
wnbaorbust
@wnbaorbust
Sep 11 2016 01:17
so I guesss my question is what normally goes inside those parentheses $(".")
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 01:17
w/o that function, the javascript code could run before all the HTML code is grabbed, so it wouldn't successfully do what it's supposed to
wnbaorbust
@wnbaorbust
Sep 11 2016 01:17
Ok
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 01:17
it depends, the $() is jQuery's selector, its a shorthand way of selecting items in your DOM
like if I wrote $("div") that would select all divs in your page
or $("h1") would select all h1 tags
you can also target CSS elements just like you did just now with classes $(".well"), or you could do IDs $("#target3")
wnbaorbust
@wnbaorbust
Sep 11 2016 01:18
Ok so that's saying select all elements etc.. and do what ever to it. Am I understanding that correctly
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 01:19
yes, the whatever comes later
like addClass will add a class to all those elements you specified
wnbaorbust
OK makes sense now Thank you @coymeetsworld
great :) yeah w/o jQuery doing all that would be a little more difficult and require more code
and you would also have to do it different ways depending on which browser the user was using. jQuery takes care of all that which is nice and lets you write more robust and shorter code
so part of jQuerys appeal is making things easier for us to do
Can someone help me: In the challenges (HTML/CSS) the code editor is flipping my cursor out of place. For example I placed my cursor in a <div> tag to add a class attribute and as I start typing my cursor flips down into the <p> tag below and now I am typing in the <p> instead of the <div> tag where I placed my cursor. What is up with that? I can then put my cursor back with my mouse and then it types in the correct place. In other words it only jumps out of the tag the first time.
@wnbaorbust you're using btn-primary 3 times, you only want to add the class once, and add shake and animated once
@jdkarns no for projects they want you to link to an external source. They recommend codepen which is nice but can be anything that is accessible on the web
Do they allow you to set up in a dev enviroment later in the course like using gulp and atom or sublime and other tools?
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 02:20
you're free to do that if you like, thats what I do too @jdkarns
but when you submit a project they want to see a working demo, so what I do is when I'm done just put the work into Codepen
like they wont just accept source code
Sean Karns
@jdkarns
Sean Karns
@jdkarns
Sep 11 2016 02:24
@coymeetsworld I understand part of the course is working on open-source projects at some point. I assumed we would be using git and github since they made us sign up for the account and it is so integrated into the whole freeCodeCamp thing?
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 02:24
its a class in Bootstrap @samcampc, I believe it is just what you would use for a simple button
Sean Karns
@jdkarns
Sep 11 2016 02:24
In other words I thought we would be using all the powerful tools that are available today and uploading branches to github etc.
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 02:25
@jdkarns its not so much open-source as its non-profit
and that comes much later on, you have to get all 3 certs to be considered for it
Sean Karns
@jdkarns
Sep 11 2016 02:25
non-profit that all of us students and I suppose teachers work on though right?
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 02:25
@jdkarns nothing stopping you from using github or any external tools either
in fact I used github on my projects, its just not a requirement
but when I'm done I just put it into CodePen and submit it
if you want to use GH pages to demo the page I'm sure that is ok too
@jdkarns yeah thats the idea
I'm still away from it as I have FrontEnd now, and working through DataVis
Sean Karns
@jdkarns
Sep 11 2016 02:27
@coymeetsworld but for these html/css and other challenges we have to use their code editor I would think? Unless I just keep copying and pasting and submitting each level of the challenge?
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 02:27
don't know specifics as to what you would do for non-profit but I believe you work with a agile manager /PM
yes @jdkarns for the challenges you have to use the editor and pass the tests
i just meant for projects, Front End I think has 10 total
that you wouldn't use that editor for
most people just work on CodePen, but like I said if you rather do it locally using a better editor like Vim or Atom or VSCode then thats all good
np @yungengine8
Sean Karns
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Sep 11 2016 02:29
yep @jdkarns thats what I did as the JS challenges got more difficult
and had to write more code
and test it
like I think around the intermediate algorithms is when I started using CodePen, that was before I learned about Node and was able to write and run code on the cmd line
Sean Karns
@jadefox10200 What do you mean?
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 11 2016 03:03
Basically, at the top you have val which is what the function is passing in.
You then should have
result = lookup[val];
and that will put the correct value from your lookup into the variable result
Michael Addro
@Subbycoon
Sep 11 2016 03:05
Ok but how do I get the undefined to come up if its blank?
Just make a blank one?
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 11 2016 03:05
At the bottom the function is being called phoneticLookup("charlie");
In the lookup table "charlie" has the value Chicago.
Harshit Garg
@theharshitgarg
Sep 11 2016 03:05
@Subbycoon u can refer this ```var myArray = [];
myArray.alpha = 'Adams';
myArray.bravo = 'Boston';
myArray.charlie = 'Chicago';
myArray.delta = 'Denver';
myArray.echo = 'Easy';
myArray.foxtrot = 'Frank';
result = myArray[val];
```

Between the style tags, give the p elements font-size of 16px. Browser and Text zoom should be at 100%.

@allin0410 what's inside the style tag is a "language" called CSS.
Basically in there you're declaring how certain html elements should look.

.myClass {
  color: blue
}

Once declared, you have to assign (i.e. tell to html which element should have that property

<p class="myClass">

Once done that, your p element will have the aspect declared in myClass.
Hope it helps

I'm on the jQuery challenge. I have to Use jQuery addClass() function to give the classes animated and bounce to my button elements. This is my code that I've tried and it's not working. I think I have it in the wrong place, but I'm not sure.

@jyapujuju Do they give you a sample API call?
$.getJSON('http://api.openweathermap.org/data/2.5/weather', {
"city": thau,
"appid": "[93599f72842d90f061994255eae35574]"
}, showWeather, 'jsonp');
should work but the appid seems odd for a JSON object

@roadrash target="_blank" is for opening the link at new page and it about img element so it use src="link" not href

when you assign the key value paid in JSON the key needs to be in quotes.

@lmfaoitskate "Note that if you don't use target="_blank" on a link, and link to something not on CodePen, the link will simply fail due to our sandboxing and cross-origin security."
@lmfaoitskate can you post a link to the Pen?

"appid": 93599f72842d90f061994255eae35574
is more how I would expect it to look.
or
"appid": "93599f72842d90f061994255eae35574"

I'm not familiar with codepen so don't know how to do it there but do they give you a sample JSON object of what they expect?

What does this mean?
"Your a element should be nested within your new p element."

can someone show what it looks like to be nested?
like:

<p>

<p>
<a> </a>
</p>

@jyapujuju However, the situation is that your first JSON call doesn't appear to be getting any data.
