Sep 12 2016 00:46
I'm using jquery $.getJSON for my Wikipedia viewer. The first execution returns JSON; I display it. I then click into the form and enter a different search string. The new search string is used to format the new url and the new getJSON executes but does not return an object. Any suggestions?

@EHjulstrom remove the <button> and the <a> tag should wrap on the div instead. because the way you have it right now is that the click is not being able to reach the <a>

@IvanM12 The third <li> would be on a new line just below the second, so right above </ul>.

<ul>
<li>Bullet</li>
<li>Bullet</li>
<li>Bullet</li>
</ul>

Like so

Also, you don't need paragraph elements inside those li elements, they're structured automatically for you.

@ameyaw416 Is it targeting a specific image or just the <img> element? If just all images, it would be:

img {
border-width: 10px;
}

If it's a specific image, you'd need to change the selector (img in above example) to the appropriate class, ID, etc.

Oh, and this ^ is within the <style> tags, @ameyaw416

blob
How can I do this
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 12 2016 02:07
@jdsouza1 Usually, you'll have your main table and you'll be wanting a particular datum from another table.

Like:
SELECT COUNTRY.CONTINENT, FLOOR(AVG(CITY.POPULATION)) FROM COUNTRY
INNER JOIN CITY
ON COUNTRY.CODE = CITY.COUNTRYCODE
GROUP BY COUNTRY.CONTINENT;

Here you're starting with the Country table. Therefore, you JOIN ON COUNTRY.CODE and then pull in the data of the other table "= CITY.COUNTRYCODE" where CITY is the other table.

When doing an inner join your results will only show if there is a match in BOTH tables. When you do an Outter join, it's much more important which table comes first.

}

And then make sure your img has the proper class such as:

hi ... how do i nest an H element inside a DIV element? I have only managed to put them side by side: <div class="col-xs-6"><h4>#left-well</h4>

Claudio Restifo

Sep 12 2016 02:44
@jbgcrugers this <div class="col-xs-6"><h4>#left-well</h4></div> means that thw h4 element is already nested (or inside) the div.
If it helps you can think of that as:
<div>
  <h4></h4> // my h4 is inside (or nested) inside a div

@jbgcrugers Somewhat confused Byron, what's the issue with the code/the error you're getting?
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Sep 12 2016 02:53

@jbgcrugers specifically in your code you have forgot to close the tags.
all your closing tags ( `</div>) are at the bottom.
in your code:

<div class="row">  // open a row div
<div class="col-xs-6"><h4>#left-well</h4> //open a col-xs div inside a div, and inside the col an h4 that gets closed.

<div class="well" id="left-well"> //open a well.. since the col is still open, this well will be inside the col element

@dandisneyman so inside your <style> tags declare a class property like i suggest before

.my-image-class {
  width: 100px // here I'm creating a class that have the property of width:100px
}

Then I assign (i.e. tells to which element I want this property to be applied) it to any html tag i want. In this case my image

<img class="my-image-class"....
  //the image now will be 100px wide.

Hope it's clear

You should only be targeting one element and adding only one class at a time. Altogether, your three individual selectors will end up adding the three classes shake, animated, and btn-primary to #target1.

$("button").addClass("animated");
$(".btn").addclass("shake");

ravij
@ravij87
Sep 12 2016 03:15
@Marmiz yes they exist and with in <script> tag
@Marmiz this is the challenge

Using .addClass(), add only one class at a time to the same element, three different ways:

Add the animated class to all elements with type button.

Add the shake class to all the buttons with class .btn.

Add the btn-primary class to the button with id #target1.

Note
You should only be targeting one element and adding only one class at a time. Altogether, your three individual selectors will end up adding the three classes shake, animated, and btn-primary to #target1.

$("button").addClass("animated bounce");
$(".btn").addClass("animated shake");
$("#target1").addClass("animated shake btn-primary"); this is not getting executed
You're overriding the class for the same element.
Since the target for all the 3 jQuery finction is always the same, you're supposed to 'divide' the class between them
$("button").addClass("animated"); //this will give them the animated
$(".btn").addClass("shake"); // this will make it shake
$("#target1").addClass("btn-primary"); // this will make it a btn-primary

Hey guys. I'm trying to change the colors of my links for my social buttons. So I have this and it works:

.social-buttons {
  font-size: 49px;
}

.social-buttons a:link { color: #fff }
.social-buttons a:visited { color: #aaa }
.social-buttons a:hover   { color: #ddd }
.social-buttons a:active  { color: #16f }

Is there a way for me to group all of those into one single class definition, sort of like:

.social-buttons {
  font-size: 49px;
 .social-buttons a:link { color: #fff }
 .social-buttons a:visited { color: #aaa }
 .social-buttons a:hover   { color: #ddd }

What's your question? Honestly, the best way is to just keep going. If you have a question or get stuck. Ask it here and there's always people that will help.
Like try out what you think should work and if it doesn't copy paste the code here and we'll point u in the right direction.

which one?

@Subbycoon
Sep 12 2016 05:11
Im doing "Record Collection"
I feel like I get on the right track but then I start second guessing myself and end up confusing myself
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 12 2016 05:12
can you give me the link?
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 12 2016 05:13
I could give you the answer but did you have a function already written out that I could help you with?
Michael Addro
@Subbycoon
Sep 12 2016 05:13
It asks for the function to do a lot, and I am already still shaky on the JSON logic...I felt like I understood the easier examples but combining all of the previous lessons is hard
Dont want the answer, just want help to understand it
Well I clicked the link it talked about Push Arrays
But this isnt an Array its an object
So it must mean if the property is a track, it wants me to push the new data into the track
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 12 2016 05:14
hmm.. Well, without giving you the answer then lets see what's confusing.
Do you understand objects? I know a lot of people have trouble when the first start with them.
Michael Addro
@Subbycoon
Sep 12 2016 05:16
I think I do, objects are just lists of data essentially that contain strings and arrays
I know how to push data to an array with arr.push()
But this is not an array
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 12 2016 05:16
JSON == JavaScript Object Notation.
All that means is that it is a set way that a Object is defined.
Right. The main difference is that they are key value pairs. ie "key":"value"
Michael Addro
@Subbycoon
Sep 12 2016 05:17
So I was thinking maybe it should be: if (prop === "tracks") {
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 12 2016 05:17
You access the value with the key.
Well, that's the thing. In this case prop IS "tracks"
Michael Addro
@Subbycoon
Sep 12 2016 05:19
No, prop could equal any of them, including artist or tracks
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 12 2016 05:19
I guess in this case it's actually artis.
my bad.
Michael Addro
@Subbycoon
Sep 12 2016 05:19
Or album
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 12 2016 05:20
Yeah, you're right. I didn't scroll down.
Michael Addro
@Subbycoon
Sep 12 2016 05:20
So I could make an if/else statement that does something if the prop is traks
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 12 2016 05:20
So correct, the first thing it to check if prop is tracks and if it is you need to create the array if it doesn't exist.
Michael Addro
@Subbycoon
Sep 12 2016 05:21
if (prop === "tracks") { result = tracks.push(""); ?
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 12 2016 05:22
But you'd want to push the value right?
Michael Addro
@Subbycoon
Sep 12 2016 05:23
Oh right
value.push()

jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 12 2016 05:24
I'm a bit hazzy on the syntax but pretty sure you'd want tracks.push(value) because you want to push "value" into the array of tracks
Chris Durham
@ChrisD1986
Sep 12 2016 05:24
Between the style tags, give the p elements font-size of 16px. Browser and Text zoom should be at 100%.
I can't figure this one out... I'm new to HTML and CSS
I'm not supposed to include the class in the second <p> statement.

Let me take another look at it quickly. I'd hate to drive you in the wrong direction.
Like I would just read through their instructions which is basically pseudo code and type it out. Like the first line translates to:
if (prop !== "tracks" && value !== ""){
    prop = value;
  }
See what I mean?
Michael Addro
@Subbycoon
Sep 12 2016 05:38
Can you refresh me on what !== means?
Is that the same as ===?
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200

does not equal
Michael Addro

I just mean that inside your If where you say prop = value:
collection[prop]
It's fine. Objects honestly are the hardest in Javascript. The good news is that once you're past it, it's pretty much the end of the hard stuff.

So, I have about 8 months of python/javascript experience just learning on my own. I just started freecodecamp and it is taking me through bootstrap/responsive design which is easy because I have already learned this stuff previously... but it has me wondering. If this was all new information to me I would feel like I really didn't know what I was doing but solving "challenges". Does the average student do a LOT of online searching to figure stuff out? I assume so, I think knowing where to look is half of the battle so its good practice.

@Adi2Point0 I actually went back to that challenge. After re reading it I have "found" a way do update the collection with 'only' 3 if . (my previous version used 5)

if (value === '') {
    //delete
  } else if (prop !== 'tracks') {
    // = value;
  } else {
    // push(value);
  }

A cheap way to work around the test cases :D :D

Hey guys, I'm kinda new here. I've just about finished the tribute page, but I'm unable to solve a small problem. The second photo I have (the one on the bottom) does not seem to be responsive. When I make the browser smaller, the photo does not scale down in size and rearrange itself like the rest of the page. I also tried changing other attributes of the image, but I haven't gotten anything to work. It's only for the second picture which is kinda odd. I know I'm missing something, but I'm still really inexperienced and haven't had much luck looking it up. If anyone could take a look at it and help me out, that would be awesome.
