you were not supposed to delete h1 and p elements.
But place them between <!-- and --> so they wouldn't be shown on the page.
best to reset and start over

Sep 13 2016 00:14
@catleif okay, you've sort of removed the h2 element itself from the HTML, so while the color is set rightly on the h2 selector, there's no h2 element within the page itself that would show the color
Eduard
@puntje
Sep 13 2016 00:14

you only need one pair of style tags, place everything style related there
did you delete your h2 element by accident?

@catleif and, you need it inside the pair of style tags that you started out with. Don't create another pair.

Can someone give me pointers on how to nest html in a div element and assign class container-fluid? Just getting started on bootstrap
Eduard
@puntje
Sep 13 2016 00:32
@hdbham
  1. surround all your html tags (except style) between <div> and </div>
  2. then apply class to div using class="container-fluid"
hdbham
@hdbham
Sep 13 2016 00:32

dev { .container-fluid
}
under style

<div>
<h1></h2>
</div>

how to assign that element to div?
in the css?
Eduard

Sep 13 2016 00:33
container-fluid is already defined in bootstrap, you only need to apply it directly to the div element in its opening tag

@dcejas radio buttons are input elements of the type radio
not these
<div class="col-xs-6">
     <button class="btn btn-block btn-primary"><i class="fa fa-thumbs-up"></i> Like</button>
    </div>
    <div class="col-xs-6">

    <div class="col-xs-6">
      <button class="btn btn-block btn-danger"><i class="fa fa-trash"></i> Delete</button>
    </div>

A) Give your div element the class silver-background.

b) Your div element should have a silver background.

@briancbarrow I haven't been able to figure out how to make the API call with the data parameters you have. Include those in the URL instead and it works fine:
$(document).ready(function(){
  $.ajax({
    url: 'http://api.forismatic.com/api/1.0/?method=getQuote&format=jsonp&lang=en&jsonp=?',
    dataType: 'jsonp',
    success: function(data){
      console.log(data);
    },
    error: function(error){
      console.log(error);
    }
  });
});

Sep 13 2016 02:45
@enricofadly354 <div> is a non-semantic container (this basically means a generic container, non-SEO related) that you can use for layouts. It's a "box", basically. id= is an attribute, not a tag. You use it with an HTML element <div id="cat"> for example - to identify an element as unique. You can only use an ID once per document you're working on; in other words, you couldn't mark two elements with the cat ID. Only one.

Classes are 'custom made'; once you know your class name (or have created your own) you can type them in the class property. If you want/need multiple classes just type them separated by a space.

@Saraswati-rajkumar nesting means insert an element inside another element.
The closing </div> is the key point here to tell the browser where an element end. So in your code:

<div class="row"> //row open
<div class="col-xs-6"> //col open
<div class="col-xs-6"> //col open inside the 1st col
  </div> //close the col
</div> //close the col

You basically have nested a col inside another col.

<div class="row"> //row open
  <div class="col-xs-6"> </div> //the 1st col is nested inside the row
  <div class="col-xs-6"> </div> //now the 2nd col is nested inside the row
 </div> //close the row

Put the Like, Info and Delete buttons side-by-side by nesting all three of them within one <div class="row"> element, then each of them within a <div class="col-xs-4"> element.

The row class is applied to a div, and the buttons themselves can be nested within it." but i dontknow what i need todo

Sep 13 2016 04:17

"In addition to classes, each HTML element can also have an id attribute.
There are several benefits to using id attributes, and you'll learn more about them once you start using jQuery.
id attributes should be unique. Browsers won't enforce this, but it is a widely agreed upon best practice. So please don't give more than one element the same id attribute.
Here's an example of how you give your h2 element the id of cat-photo-app:

<h2 id="cat-photo-app">
Give your form element the id cat-photo-form."

  • here: h2 .red-text {, .red-text is the css class. (so h2 would be removed).
  • in the h2 element, we can reference the format/syntax of the example code, here: <h2 class="blue-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>.
    the class (name) is used in the html element to determine the styling (notice no dot/period precedes the class name in the html element/h2).

@xSpideyx Javascript is an actual programming language so it's totally different than HTML or CSS in it's basic nature.
Pritesh
@pritc
Sep 13 2016 05:09
@xSpideyx java and javascript are completely different languages javascript is a scripting language where as java is a programming language in which "Java source code files (files with a .java extension) are compiled into a format called bytecode (files with a .class extension), which can then be executed by a Java interpreter." and html is a markup language and "CSS is a style sheet language which describes the appearance of markup (text with contextual definitions called "tags"). I've never met an experienced programmer who considers CSS/HTML programming languages."

@GSoupene you can put it in the form tag right after "form" and right before "action"
You can also put it after action="/submit-cat-photo".
However, it's general good practice imo to put the id right after the name of the tag as it's generally one of the most import things about the tag.

Wow, so basically, it's telling you that for some reason it didn't actually import the Lobster font which is done on line 1 of your code:

<link href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Lobster" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">

Sep 13 2016 06:28
@Chandeliers paste this into your URL browser and let me know what happens:
https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Lobster
If that link doesn't work, then you need to skip the lesson. As far as I can see in your code, you are doing it correctly.

yes
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 13 2016 06:58
So since that is a class you would just need to add the class="larger-image" (in this example) to the <img> tag in the same way you would a <p> tag.
Realize of course that the challenge wants you to name the class .smaller-image and set the width to 100px.
Does that make sense or no?

@jadefox10200
Sep 13 2016 07:06
@TheMikeRivers Sometimes, it's just a typo to be honest.
Actually, a lot of times it's a typo.
Check your code against this for a typo:
  .smaller-image {
    width: 100px;
  }

</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<img class="smaller-image" src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. ">
Obviously, if you feel you missed something, then going back isn't a bad idea..
