Boris

Sep 14 2016 01:02
@ElijahCodes I think you only need 1 h2 element, so <h1>Hello World</h1> I may be wrong.... what is the challenge name??
@csmall1 you are missing a } after color:red; and I think that instead of h1 in the style element, you meed to change it to p

what is the requirement that is needed
Hyojin
@codeforkoffee
Sep 14 2016 01:15
didn't I give the p elements fontsize of 16px
Between the style tags, give the p elements font-size of 16px. Browser and Text zoom should be at 100%. : this is the requirement that I don't understand

Sep 14 2016 01:16
hmm let me think
Boris
@Boris1011
Sep 14 2016 01:16
@spckim you know how in the instructions, they have the example
h1 {
  font-size: 30px;
}
sythekilllerobot
@sythekilllerobot
Sep 14 2016 01:16
put the requirements up to

@spckim
Hyojin

Sep 14 2016 01:16
yes!
@Boris1011 I see the red box yes
Boris
@Boris1011
Sep 14 2016 01:17
you need that same set out in the style element, but for what they need you to do.... which is for the p element and 16px....
David Colclasure
@dcolclasure
Sep 14 2016 01:17
oh nvm, i didn't scroll down all the way!
Hyojin
@codeforkoffee
Sep 14 2016 01:18
@Boris1011 but I don't have a class named h1
David Colclasure

Sep 14 2016 01:18
Everyone good? Any questions?
Hyojin
@codeforkoffee
Sep 14 2016 01:18
@Boris1011 don't I change h1 to red-text?
Boris
@Boris1011
Sep 14 2016 01:18
@spckim they just use h1 as an example....
for the font-size in any case
Hyojin
@codeforkoffee
Sep 14 2016 01:18
@Boris1011 yes, I understand that
Michael Ortiz
@mikeortiz5190
Sep 14 2016 01:19
here's my code and it worked

<style>
.red-text {
color: red;
} p {
font-size: 30px;
}
</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<p class="red-text">Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.</p>
<p>Purr jump eat the grass rip the couch scratched sunbathe, shed everywhere rip the couch sleep in the sink fluffy fur catnip scratched.</p>

replace h1 with p is all you do
Boris
@Boris1011
Sep 14 2016 01:20
@spckim so you need that example, change h1 to p and then the size needs to be 16 I think...
Hyojin
@codeforkoffee
Sep 14 2016 01:22
@Boris1011 ahhhhhhhh! I was supposed to make a separate class declaration
Boris
@Boris1011
Sep 14 2016 01:24
Yes!! because you want the <p> elements to be 16px... by adding the font-size to red-text, you are giving the 16px to the h2 element and p element with the red-text class
sythekilllerobot
@sythekilllerobot

what does this mean ?
Your stylesheet should declare a red-text class and have its color set to red.
Use a CSS Class to Style an Element

<style>
h2 {
color: red;
}
</style>

<h2 class= red-text >CatPhotoApp</h2>

<p>Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.</p>

@ZEROblast This means create a class in CSS. The general way to do this is
.class-name {
  property: value;
}
@ZEROblast In your code, you are using an <h2> css selector

after that , I run nam start
npm start but the terminal gives me back this { [Error: ENOENT: no such file or directory, open '.env'] errno: -2, code: 'ENOENT', syscall: 'open', path: '.env' } Error: Connection strategy not found
any idea how to solve this?

Hi everyone. I'm learning jQuery and just targeted the parent of an element (button 1) to make the background red. The parent has other children (other buttons). When I do this, only the parent and button 1 get red backgrounds. I thought that all the children would inherit the parent's background color. I just want to make sure i'm not misunderstanding something

@monstermeat depends which selector are you using :)
and if you're passing other values as .parent() or .closest()
monstermeat
@monstermeat
Sep 14 2016 04:14
@Marmiz the selector is the button 1: $("#target1").parent().css("background-color", "red");
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Sep 14 2016 04:14
@monstermeat by your question I can deduce you've used an ID selector, ( $(#target1) ) . So it's intended that you're targeting only that specific element
monstermeat
@monstermeat
Sep 14 2016 04:14
I haven't learned about .closest() yet
@Marmiz So I'm not targeting the parent?
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Sep 14 2016 04:15

@monstermeat yes you are:

$("#target1").parent()

You're selecting target 1 and all his parent. You wanted the children as well?
Use children()

monstermeat
@monstermeat
Sep 14 2016 04:16
@Marmiz I think i see. I assumed that children automatically inherit all their parents' properties
@Marmiz in this case I changed the parent property to red background, so I thought all the children would have red backgrounds

Only add one class with each of your three selectors.
Your #target1 element should have the classes animated‚ shake and btn-primary<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$("button").addClass("animated shake");
$(".btn").addClass("animated shake");
$("#target1").addClass("animated shake");
$(".btn-primary").addClass("animated shake");
});
</script>
Target the same element with multiple jQuery Selectors

Yeah, a buddy of mine at work really wants me to use Angular2 and semantic-ui for the CSS.
semantic is really interesting to be honest. It seems to combine the CSS and javascript into one library really and handles both. But you need to be comfortable with it.

sorry

You can add Bootstrap to any app by adding the following code to the top of your HTML:

<link rel="stylesheet" href="//maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.1/css/bootstrap.min.css"/>

In this case, we've already added it for you to this page behind the scenes.

To get started, we should nest all of our HTML in a div element with the class container-fluid.

Hello everyone! I am stuck on a step. I am trying to create a smaller-image class and I'm trying to resize the image, but apparently I am wrong somewhere. Any assistance would be appreciated!

<link href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Lobster" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">

<style>
.red-text {
color: red;
}

h2 {
font-family: Lobster, Monospace;
}

p {
font-size: 16px;
font-family: Monospace;
}

.smaller-image {
width: 100px;
}

</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<img src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. ">

<p class="red-text">Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.</p>
<p class="red-text">Purr jump eat the grass rip the couch scratched sunbathe, shed everywhere rip the couch sleep in the sink fluffy fur catnip scratched.</p>

And I did check to make sure that my browser zoom is at 100%.

@beckomw Stylesheet means a separate CSS file or (in this case) anything between the <style> tags in the HTML. So, you want to declare a class within those tags, and give it a colorproperty of red. Classes start with a period . when declared. Here is an example:
<style>
.blue-text {
color: blue;
}
</style>
@alishacodes You're only missing the class on your <img>. You need to add in a class= attribute to use the class, so <img class="thisclass" src="thissrc"> etc

My point is not to have people copy paste. I'm not even done explaining
Anyways, @jenilevil The point of nesting is if you paste that into your code you'll see that the words "cat photo" are duplicated twice on the iPhone screen.
One set of the text "cat photos" is blue and the other is not. Does it make sense to you why that is? @jenilevil

@GradyHodge Your structure's a bit messed up. First, you'll need a <div class="row"> that wraps around everything for the current row. Then, inside that, you'll need more <div>s that contain what you want to display. These have the class="col-size-#" class on them. The overall number should add up to 12 if you want to cover the entire screen width-wise
