Sep 15 2016 00:15
@rbanton Oh you need to create a CSS property for the p element inside the style tag
Example:
  p { /* An entry for the p element */
    font-size: 16px;  /* An entry for the font-size property */
  }

Sep 15 2016 00:22
hmm interesting
@U-ways can you put that in the success function?
like this:
 $.ajax({

          url: url,
          dataType: "jsonp",
          success: function(apiData) {
            if (apiData === undefined) {
              console.log("error ");
              $("#streamsTable tr:last").after("<tr class='online'><td>" + channels[i] + "</td>" + "<td>" + "Account Closed" + "</td></tr>");
            } else if (apiData.stream !== null) {
              console.log("stream is not null, adding data from " + channels[i]);
              $("#streamsTable tr:last").after("<tr class='online'><td>" + apiData.stream.channel.display_name + "</td>" + "<td>" + apiData.stream.channel.status + "</td></tr>");
            } else {
              console.log("stream is null, adding data from " + channels[i]);
              $("#streamsTable tr:last").after("<tr class='offline'><td>" + channels[i] + "</td>" + "<td>" + "Offline" + "</td></tr>");

@jonathantimm Yes. But remember that should be for the "https://api.twitch.tv/kraken/users/" reponse not for the "https://api.twitch.tv/kraken/streams/" one. (the first API call back provide extra details about the user, the other one for the streams)

The first task "Your div element should have the class container-fluid."
The way you do that is by setting the "class" attribute to "container-fluid" by adding class="container-fluid" to the div tag

@stevensona Well the Instructions are : Modify the function checkObj to test myObj for checkProp. If the property is found, return that property's value. If not, return "Not Found". here is my code
// Setup
var myObj = {
  gift: "pony",
  pet: "kitten",
  bed: "sleigh"
};

function checkObj(checkProp) {
  // Your Code Here
  if (myObj.hasOwnProperty(checkProp)) {
    return checkProp;
  }
  else {
    return "Not Found";
  }
}

// Test your code by modifying these values
checkObj("gift");
Thomas Noe
@t3h2mas
Sep 15 2016 00:59
perhaps
you'll want to return a prop of myObj, instead of the prop name

@evelynhausler It should use the other font when it degrades. What they're trying to say with the term "degrade" is: When font Lobster can not be found for the user, use font Monospace

as shown i nthe example:

you can create style which effect the entire page using * or body.

<style>

  • {
    }
    body
ups
<style>
* {
background-color:red;
}
body {
background-color:blue;
}
</style>
off course, although the effect look the same, body will overwrite any same style from *.

you create a style for body, but there's no body tag in your html

@spckim Div's are basically just ways to seperate areas of your code. When you want to add a certain css attribute to it, you can give a div a class and alter how it looks with the css code.

@spckim class is an atribute , you create class within the style element i.e. within <style></style>.. then you attach the attribute class to the div element to acquire the properties that that class have that is having a silver background

@DanSavarese Oh, then you need to add the class not only to the <p> tag but also to the <h2> tag:

Sep 15 2016 04:22
Kinda, but more simply because they also don't ask you to modify the <p> tag. See below for the difference and let me know if that makes sense:
<style>
.red-text {
color:red;
}
</style>
<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>
<p>Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.</p>
Because you have a class changing the color of the <h2> tag you no longer need the following code in the CSS:
h2 {
color: red;
}

hey guys, i am stuck at the "Use the Bootstrap Grid to Put Elements Side By Side" lesson. here is my task.

Your buttons should all be nested within the same div element with the class row.
Each of your Bootstrap buttons should be nested within its own div element with the class col-xs-4.

here's my code for that portion:

<div class="row"><div class="col-xs-4">
<button class="btn btn-block btn-primary">Like</button>

Hello there! Some git expert in here for a quick help?
My .gitignore file looks someting like this

node_modules
config.js
mongod

In config.js there are passwords and such for my db, therefore I don't want it public.
When pushing the branch however config.js was there.
I had to remove it from the git version with

git rm --cached config.js

But still bugs me the fact that the gitignore failed. Something wrong in there?

How to check this in following code:

If prop is "tracks" but the album doesn't have a "tracks" property, create an empty array before adding the new value to the album's corresponding property.

var collection = {

"album": "Slippery When Wet",
"artist": "Bon Jovi",
"tracks": [
"Let It Rock",
"You Give Love a Bad Name"

@annunirmal if you look at the last album in the collection.. no "tracks".. so you have to create it before you can add stuff to it

@Honesty1997 Here is one small issue in your code:
You have: $('ul').append('<li><a href = ' + data[3][i] > '>' + data[1][i] + '</a><p>' + data[2][i] + '</p></li>');

This is broken, because you don't have quotes for the link in href. To fix use this:

@jadefox10200 no worries butha
@annunirmal it seems like i'm trying to ask a trick question but i'm not really.. :D
@annunirmal these are the only variables types that exist in JS:
"Undefined "undefined"
Null "object" (see below)
Boolean "boolean"
Number "number"
String "string"
Symbol (new in ECMAScript 2015) "symbol"
Host object (provided by the JS environment) Implementation-dependent
Function object (implements [[Call]] in ECMA-262 terms) "function"
Any other object "object" '

Oh i think data[3][i] should contain the string so i didn't add it.
I will try that

Sep 15 2016 07:00
@DarrenfJ okay right. hoe is this related
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 15 2016 07:00
@annunirmal and one of these 'types' represents a variable that doesn't really exist yet
@annunirmal your if statemnt

@Honesty1997 With such code you will be able to continue your investigation) then check the content that you try to concatenate

But it should append <li> things

hi , my thick-green-border is not showing!
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 15 2016 07:03
you can use 'process of elimination'.. i.e a string exists, a number exists.. an object exists
Annu Nirmal
@annunirmal
Sep 15 2016 07:03
@DarrenfJ i think a string
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 15 2016 07:04
@annunirmal a string definitely exists. even if its empty (i.e.var someString = "")
@annunirmal so you have:
undefined
Null
Boolean (is it true or false)
Number
String
Symbol (new in ECMAScript 2015) "symbol"
Object
Sergii
@sergii-zhuravel
Sep 15 2016 07:06

@DarrenfJ i am loosing track, so basically for this

If prop is "tracks" but the album doesn't have a "tracks" property, create an empty array before adding the new value to the album's corresponding property

album does not have track property anywjere

in any id

@annunirmal and that's where the above discussion comes in.. variables that do not exist still churn out an answer when you try to use them in code... they have a specific 'type' and it's one of the ones I showed above.. and we've ruled out string, number, object and booleen (cause that's just a true or false state.. i.e. it is still something)
@annunirmal that leaves only null and undefined
@annunirmal you test to see if it's one of those
@annunirmal null is sort of like saying i want to test if it's empty (sort of, I'm oversimplifying here) and undefined is like saying i haven't created it yet

"The value null represents the intentional absence of any object value."
and from: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/undefined
"A variable that has not been assigned a value is of type undefined. A method or statement also returns undefined if the variable that is being evaluated does not have an assigned value."

@jyapujuju look at dev tools, problem is that you cant get data connecting from https to http, it can be fixed with login out from codepen so connection would be http or maybe open it in another browser
@jyapujuju and btw writing your receiving data to console can be really helpful while working with api
