How do I know which </div> corresponds to which <div element>? For example, I know I want to end the div class "col-xs-8", but I want to make sure that "row" remains open. Does a closing </div> just correspond with the most respond <div>?

@Datoufa a closing </div> corresponds to the most recent opening <div>
@Datoufa btw, this wont work

Hey all, I'm trying to work on my tribute page and struggling to find the right way to link to an external font. The site I'm using is 1001fonts.com - can someone help me figure out how to get it to link? I can only find resources on linking from Google Fonts.

@hberg56 here

@font-face {
    font-family: myFirstFont;
    src: url(sansation_light.woff);
}

I'm guessing you would have downloaded the font to your computer? Use this format, I think they have a .ttf format as the font

I have a div tag. When I try to get the value with jQuery, the console.log just returns nothing.

var getVal = $('#tempVal').val();
console.log(getVal);

How can I get the number that is between the tags?

If I try the following, I just get 'NaN':

var getVal = $('#tempVal').val().toNumber();
console.log(getVal);

Not sure why I can't get the value.

May I ask why
$(document).ready(function(){});
is not valid, but
$(document).ready(function(){
});
is valid? Is it just best practice or a function of the language?

So I'm making a node.js server and I'm trying to figure out a settings file for it. I understand how to use Javascript to link 2 js files for cleaning up code basically, but i was wondering, if lets say i have the "var my settings = {};" in the settings.js file, and in server.js i set that var mysettings to {ip:10.0.10101}. Will the settings stay after i restart the server and code?

You could use a json file and load it every time your app starts. @dillman33

Sep 20 2016 02:03

It's very easy. Just do this:

JSON.parse(...<file content>..);

it will return a associative array.

replace file content with the file's text (json-formatted)

so with the json file settings.json, i would do JSON.parse("./settings")?
This message was deleted
Atlas
@CloudRex
Sep 20 2016 02:06

json file:

{
"mysetting": "myvalue"
}

node.js file:

fs = require('fs');
var json = null;
fs.readFile('config.json', 'utf8', function (err,data) {
if (data) {
json = JSON.parse(data);
}
else if (error) {
return false;
}
}

then you can access it like:

json["mysetting"] or json.mysetting // returns string "myvalue"
That's just an example.

Use the $("button") selector.
Use the $(".btn") selector.
Use the $("#target1") selector.

Judging from your information, I'll assume you're referring to "Target the same element with multiple jQuery Selectors"

<script>
  $(document).ready(function() {
    $("button").addClass("shake");
    $(".btn").addClass("shake");
    $("#target1").addClass("shake");
    $("#target1").addClass("animated btn-primary");
  });
</script>

<!-- Only change code above this line. -->

<div class="container-fluid">
  <h3 class="text-primary text-center">jQuery Playground</h3>
  <div class="row">
    <div class="col-xs-6">

        <button class="btn btn-default target" id="target2">#target2</button>
        <button class="btn btn-default target" id="target3">#target3</button>
      </div>
    </div>
    <div class="col-xs-6">
      <h4>#right-well</h4>
      <div class="well" id="right-well">
        <button class="btn btn-default target" id="target4">#target4</button>
        <button class="btn btn-default target" id="target5">#target5</button>
        <button class="btn btn-default target" id="target6">#target6</button>
      </div>
    </div>

</div>

Based from the information you provided, I'll infer that the lesson you're referring to is "Nest an Anchor Element within a Paragraph"

    border-style: solid;
    border-radius: 50%;
  }

  .smaller-image {
    width: 100px;
  }
</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

you just declare your element p inside your style tag
p {
font-size: 16px;
}
LPR-309
@LPR-309
Sep 20 2016 03:47

@bluntiebrown Okay. For that challenge, they're asking you to target all the <p> elements and change their font size. Doing that requires CSS code, so we're working within the <style> tags of the document (it's like the "CSS Section").

<style>
.red-text {
color: red;
}

p {
font-size: 18px;
}
</style>

^ Basically, you create a new entry there, and you're target the p elements. Then you write in the property you want to change, in this case font-size. I changed it to 18px in that example.

baxt3r
@ponjap
Sep 20 2016 03:47

or for a full view:

</style>

jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 20 2016 04:07
First I would not try and assign it and return it on the same line.
The other thing to check is that in your if statement you're using the != and the !==. I would just use the !== for both.
@dereksitthideth For example, you're already returning collection on line 38 so just take the return keyword out of line 34 and that will do the assignment.

@willstanleyus You shouldn't have two <style> tags in the code. Take the class that you've made:

.smaller-image{
width:100px;
}

and put that with the other classes that you've made above the </style> tag

@willstanleyus Then, you need to add the class to the img tag;
<img class="smaller-image" src="someURL">

jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 20 2016 04:31
@dereksitthideth You need to check if the property is there in the first else if:
}else if (prop === "tracks" && value !== ""){
    if(collection[id].hasOwnProperty(prop)){
      collection[id][prop].push(value);
    }else{
      collection[id][prop] = [value];
    }

  }
@dereksitthideth You need to check if that property is there or not. If it already exists you add a new value. If it's not there you create it rather than pushing it.

@zeddyouj if you mean formatting your code in chat read this:
https://gitter.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/200176682-Markdown-basics

or
https://github.com/FreeCodeCamp/FreeCodeCamp/wiki/Code-Formatting

So you learn a bit of Markdown, always useful on Github and Readmes :)

@IbnAl-Haytham sorry buddy, your question kinda slid off :)
Are you sure the syntax is correct and / or there are no other !important somewhere?

Anyway using !important is generally bad. Quoting the mdn dev guide:

Some rules of thumb:
Always look for a way to use specificity before even considering !important
Only use !important on page-specific CSS that overrides foreign CSS (from external libraries, like Bootstrap or normalize.css).
Never use !important when you're writing a plugin/mashup.
Never use !important on site-wide CSS

Make sure your CSS rule is properly formatted with both opening and closing curly brackets.
Make sure your CSS rule ends with a semi-colon.
what to do

@OzairAshfaque that means there's some error somewhere, so feel free to copy your code here (mind the formatting please) Or if you are poositive of your code try to refresh the page. Sometimes the browser "clogs"

@darmawannashrullah they give you that as an example. but as @sergey-zhuravel mentioned they want you to actually do this (the cats!):
"Now nest your existing a element within a new p element (just after the existing h2 element) so that the surrounding paragraph says "View more cat photos", but where only "cat photos" is a link, and the rest of the text is plain text."
@darmawannashrullah they give this as an example fro syntax:
"<p>Here's a <a href="https://freecodecamp.com"> link to Free Code Camp</a> for you to follow.</p>"

<img class="class=smaller-image border-color=green border-width=10px border-style=solid" src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. ">
How do i add multiple classes into one?
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 20 2016 06:22
@Waqassnz they give you this:
<style>
  h2 {
    color: blue;
  }
</style>

<h2>CatPhotoApp</h2>

<p>Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.</p>
and want you to change the h2 to a class declaration
@Waqassnz they give you a part 1 example for blue text (note, in the Q they give an example, but want you to use red in the exercise)
<style>
  .blue-text {
    color: blue;
  }
</style>
@Waqassnz that was part 1. for part 2 you add a class with same name (minus the . (dot) ) in the html section.. syntax like so:
<h2 class="blue-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>
but red, not blue
Palmatoro
@Palmatoro
Sep 20 2016 06:26
Darren?
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 20 2016 06:26
@Palmatoro you so most of what you have in "" in the style section, and then in the html just refer to each class like <img class="classOne ClassTwo" .... >
Palmatoro
@Palmatoro
Sep 20 2016 06:27
Yes
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 20 2016 06:27
@Palmatoro so what you have here: smaller-image border-color=green border-width=10px border-style=solid would actually be in the CSS section
Palmatoro
@Palmatoro
Sep 20 2016 06:28
Yea
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 20 2016 06:28
.class-name {..... : ......; }
Palmatoro
@Palmatoro
Sep 20 2016 06:29
I just dont know how to apply it into the html section :(
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 20 2016 06:29
@Palmatoro in the CSS section (the part between the <style></style>) classes have the same name as in the html section with the addition of a . (dot) in front of them
class name is the same as the CSS section, but in this case "without" the . (dot)
you should have handled the{ border-color:green;} and the rest in the CSS section.. ( .smaller-image part)
Palmatoro
@Palmatoro
Sep 20 2016 06:31
<img class="class=smaller-image border-color=green border-width=10px border-style=solid" src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. ">
So i đid this....
Ohhh
Still messed up :P
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 20 2016 06:32
@Palmatoro yah you only need <img class="class-name"> here
@Palmatoro what did you do in the CSS section?
also what exerise is it?
Palmatoro
@Palmatoro
Sep 20 2016 06:34
In the css
.thick-green-border {border-color: green; border-width: 10px; border-style: solid}

Your left-well element should have a red background.
You should use the .parent() function to modify this element.
The .parent() method should be called on the #target1 element.

@YeOldCripple use the class: text-center

its trying to show that you have one thing that can be targetted by it's html type, then by it;s 'class', then by it's 'id'

@Atul1611 Ok cool. I just like to check. Sometimes I paste code and people just copy it and don't know what it does so they don't really learn and have the same problem later.
@YeOldCripple You can apply that to a surrounding div and it will center the piece.
James C Hurst
@YeOldCripple
Sep 20 2016 06:47
okay thx ill try that
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 20 2016 06:48
@syed1214 so you did this:
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {

$("button").addClass("animated");
$(".btn").addClass("animated shake");
$("#target1").addClass("animated shake btn-primary ");

});
</script>

and you only have to add animate to button, add shake to .btn and btn-primary to the last one as per this instruction:
"Add the animated class to all elements with type button.

Add the shake class to all the buttons with class .btn.

Add the btn-primary class to the button with id #target1"

For example:

<form action="/url-where-you-want-to-submit-form-data"></form>

Nest your text field in a form element. Add the action="/submit-cat-photo" attribute to this form element.

nest means to insert inside or in between
<form> <input type="text"> </form>
here <input> is being nested inside form element
Lawrence Eagles
@lawrenceagles
Sep 20 2016 07:35
@hdanik nesting means to put one html element completely inside another e.g<p><h1>Hello world</h1></p> I just nested the h1 element inside the paragraph element.

@samkan93 Wrap image in

<div class="someclass">
<img src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. ">
</div>

someclass { border-width:10px;
border-style:solid;}

@samkan93 That's the name of the class you create. You can choose whatever you want to name it. It could be anything, just make sure its consistent between the HTML and CSS files.
Peter Lozhkin
@Sabutobi
Sep 20 2016 11:11
@samkan93
I mean You can name class as you wish. Img tag have no attribute border in HTML5. So you need wrap your img by div tag. And class is how you can handle styles of that tag.

<div class="someclass" style="border-width:10px; border-style:solid;">
<img src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. ">

Try this this is inline variant. But this is bad practice. Styles have to be in CSS, page markup in HTML, scripts in JS files.

In your HTML:

<div class="image-container" >
<img src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. ">
</div>
In your CSS:
.image-container {
border-width:10px;
border-style:solid;
}

@MustagheesButt Your img element should have the class smaller-image.
Your image should be 100 pixels wide. Browser zoom should be at 100%.

@MustagheesButt <link href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Lobster" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">

<style>
.zoom {
zoom: 100%;

color: red;
}

}

p {

function newChoice(){
  ind=  [Math.floor(Math.random() * choices.length)];
  seq=choices[ind];
  return seq;
}

function cpuSeq() {
  count++;
newChoice(); //seq is the value of random choice element
   interval =
 setInterval(function() {
     if(cSeq.length>=1){ for(i=0;i<cSeq.length;i++){
 //IF cpuSeq has notes in it... play them again before making new ones.
  audioF[cSeq[i].toLowerCase].play(); } }

 audioF[seq.toLowerCase()].play();
    cSeq.push(seq);

     console.log(cSeq + cSeq.length, pSeq);
    newChoice();
  if(cSeq.length>=count){clearInterval(interval);
  cSeq=[];}
 }, 1000);
}
Can someone advise me how to make CpuChoice remember past choices in Cseq Array and so make the cPu choose past choices before using random choices???

P是英文paragraph段落的缩写,经常被用来创建一个段落,就和你写作文一样。

任务:在副标题下面新增一个段落,段落内容是:Hello Paragraph。
