Hey, can someone explain to me how this line works?
Math.floor(Math.random() * (max - min + 1)) + min

Other than saying the generated number will be within min and max inclusively, the step doesn't explain how this is supposed to represent the result as >=min and <=max

@massera you already probably know that to get a random number
between 0 and N we use Math.floor(Math.random() * (N + 1)); right?
by adding x we would get a random number between x and N+x with Math.floor(Math.random() * (N + 1)) + x;
however since we do not want to go as high as N+x but only up to N we have to subtract x inside the parenthesis

@Girzima Perfect Thanks

@massera
as a general rule we see that any terms outside have effect on lower bound and upper bound
and any terms inside parenthesis have effect on the upper bound
massera
@massera
Sep 21 2016 01:30
@puntje Hmmm where does the * (N + 1) come from?
Eduard
@puntje
Sep 21 2016 01:31
@massera as @Manish-Giri pointed out Math.random() generates from 0 (inclusive) to 1 (exclusive)
multiplying N by 0.999.. and then rounding it down will get us N-1...
hence why we add 1 to get a random number between 0 inclusive and N inclusive
massera

Hey guys can somebody help me with this code? It's for a lab and I have no idea where to go from here. The instructions say "Uncomment Code Section 2. This line should return time in a more readable format. For instance, instead of 129313 ms, it should show 2 minutes, 9 seconds, and 313 ms.
Write the 3 additional functions to make the line operate.
Show your functions in your lab report.
Test your code to confirm that it works."

this is the code: http://imgur.com/qd0eR5J

I don't know how to get the ms to convert to minutes, seconds, and ms
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Sep 21 2016 01:37

@Melissa5853 if conversion is the problem, try this

int seconds = (int) (milliseconds / 1000) % 60 ;
int minutes = (int) ((milliseconds / (1000*60)) % 60);
int hours   = (int) ((milliseconds / (1000*60*60)) % 24);

syntax would be different for C

Also your css code was in style tags, which is fine, but it's less messy and easier to go over if you put it in the css section
I'd recommend putting borders around your divs so you know exactly what they go around, it gives a good visual

"Size your Images"

Here's what it says: "CSS has a property called width that controls an element's width. Just like with fonts, we'll use px (pixels) to specify the image's width.

For example, if we wanted to create a CSS class called larger-image that gave HTML elements a width of 500 pixels, we'd use:

<style>
  .larger-image {
    width: 500px;
  }
</style>

Create a class called smaller-image and use it to resize the image so that it's only 100 pixels wide."

Turn an Image into a Link
You can make elements into links by nesting them within an a element.

Nest your image within an a element. Here's an example:

<a href="#"><img src="https://bit.ly/fcc-running-cats" alt="Three kittens running towards the camera. "></a>

Remember to use # as your a element's href property in order to turn it into a dead link.

Place the existing image element within an anchor element.

Once you've done this, hover over your image with your cursor. Your cursor's normal pointer should become the link clicking pointer. The photo is now a link.

Run tests (ctrl + enter)
Reset Help Bug
Nest the existing img element within an a element.
Your a element should be a dead link with a href attribute set to #.
Make sure each of your a elements has a closing tag.

I did.

Emphasize the text in your target4 button by adding HTML tags.
Make sure the text is otherwise unchanged.
Do not alter any other text.
Make sure you are using .html() and not .text().
Make sure to select button id="target4" with jQuery

This is what I have

<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#target1").css("color", "red");
$("h3").html("<em>jQuery Playground</em>");
$("target4").text("<em>button id=target4 </em>")
});
</script>

Use the hex code for the color black instead of the word black. For example body { color: #000000; } <style>
body {

@jadefox10200 that should say cranking
@KeatonZ if you post code and do it like this.. it's nice and clean on a black background: https://github.com/FreeCodeCamp/FreeCodeCamp/wiki/Code-Formatting
makes it easier to read
@jadefox10200 you just seem to be motivated to learn everything

@DarrenfJ Well, that's why I'm glad you're here so often to be honest. It's honestly a great motivation just to have someone else there. I check in daily and when I do I need to know that I've done learned something that day. Otherwise, to me the day was wasted.
