Why on HTML/CSS course not tables (not layout, tables element)? I listened that table can replaced by div'es.Is it enough for working tables? But is not add extra work? If we have a tables? Sorry if my question look likes stupid for you. I'm really interested in that, and very like learning on FCC. Thank you

Does it just mean to add comments in?

is it normal that you have to reset all code in the first exercises of the HTML class? Every exercise already comes with the good codes typed out, and I don't have to fill in anything... Seems a little weird, so now I reset all the code at the start before beginning to code myself

@hammad-amin You’ll need to style a class and add the class with javascript when the <a> tag is clicked
Since its a single page website
<a> tags don’t have a built in state thats maintained upon clicking since they’re meant to take you to a different page
a:active is only present while the mouse button is held down while clicking it, which is why it didn’t work for you

Yeah! Think of it this way, if you want to access a photo on your website, you will be /[source]. What is technically before the / is your root. In the case of using an outside website https://bit.ly is your "root" and /fcc-relaxing-cat is your "source"

Your left-well element should have a red background.
You should use the .parent() function to modify this element.
The .parent() method should be called on the #target1 element.
Only use jQuery to add these classes to the element.

<script>
  $(document).ready(function() {
    $("#target1").css("background-color", "red");
    $("#target1").prop("disabled", true);
    $("#target4").remove();
    $("#target2").appendTo("#right-well");
    $("#target5").clone().appendTo("#left-well");
    $("left-well").parent("#target1");

  });
</script>

Only add one class with each of your three selectors.

Your #target1 element should have the classes animated‚ shake and btn-primary.

Only use jQuery to add these classes to the element.

<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$("button").addClass("animated")
$(".btn").addClass("animated shake")
$("#target1").addClass("btn-primary")
});
</script>

<div class="container-fluid">
<h3 class="text-primary text-center">jQuery Playground</h3>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-xs-6">
<h4>#left-well</h4>
<div class="well" id="left-well">
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target1">#target1</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target2">#target2</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target3">#target3</button>
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-xs-6">
<h4>#right-well</h4>
<div class="well" id="right-well">
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target4">#target4</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target5">#target5</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target6">#target6</button>

@Rwinnett I changed my p-tag's width to auto, but it does not allow my picture to go down. By any chance, does bootstrap's columns work from all the way to the top to down? Even when I have not called my div tags earlier?

Sep 22 2016 02:28
@sahmed007 Looking at the inspector there is actually some issues with your current layout, which may be causing your problems. Your columns appear correct but they are floated all the way to the top. You start your H1 and H2 down 300 and 375px respectively but then your container div is at the top due to display: Table;
Instead of using someone else's predefined styles, why not right your own that is basically a left and right column?
The only reason your text isnt on top of your name is your definition of position relative in class alignP. Remove alignP and you will see you text move to the top.
Samad Ahmed
@sahmed007
Sep 22 2016 02:32
@Rwinnett I am not using someone elses code. This is entirely my own.

@mtpjr88 The first two lines should be below the:

That is the place in the code that you are defining the object. Since the code runs and reads top down, you can't use the object until it's defined.

Text is inline and so it can wrap around things and is more fluid. Block level elements are just what they say, blocks. They take up a certain amount of space and behave differently.

@jpak123y Then you'll need to use the id attribute: <div id="someId"></div>

#someId{
background-color:green;
}

@jadefox10200
Sep 22 2016 06:06
@jpak123y Do you understand what an id is for? I can post code but it's better if we find out what you're struggling with.
Try and paste in the link to the problem so I can see what you've got. That'll help find the bug.
jpak123y
@jpak123y
Sep 22 2016 06:07
@jadefox10200 as far as I understand the id is to be able to give attributes and stylings to some form or object without complicating the code string?
the link is massive so i dont want to accidentally spam this chat with pages of text

@jpak123y Ok, so here you've assigned a class named "smaller-image"
  .smaller-image {
    width: 100px;
  }
What makes it a class is the "." that you put before the name "smaller-class".
If for example you wanted to make that an id you'd change the "." to a "#". And that's all you'd do in order to define an id.

@jadefox10200 so what in general is the purpose of the "#"
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 22 2016 06:14
To define the fact that it is an id. An id can only be used for one specific element.
A class is something you can assign to many elements like you did with the red-text.

Ok, so for starters we're only changing code below the function line. so we'll start at the line where the function is defined.
You got any questions about what this first line is doing:
function updateRecords(id, prop, value) {
ChrisB
@tiggerroo
Sep 22 2016 06:27
setting our function with the elements of id, prop and value?
jadefox10200

Yes. However, (id, prop, value) are called arguments.

having a nesting challenge. can anyone help?
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 22 2016 06:29
What's important is that (id, prop, value) have the values of (1,"myProperty", "somevalue")
in the below example:
function updateRecords(id, prop, value) {};
updateRecords(1, "myProperty","somevalue");
On line two above is where I am actually using the function updateRecords and passing in those values.
ChrisB
@tiggerroo
Sep 22 2016 06:31
okay following so far
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Sep 22 2016 06:31
Now inside the function anywhere I use the variable id, the value of id is 1.
Ok cool.
So the first thing you need to do is find out if the argument prop == "tracks"
and if value does not equal ""
Do you know how you would write that line out in code?
ChrisB
@tiggerroo
Sep 22 2016 06:33
so the first section says if prop isn't tracks and value isn't empty so i was thinking this, but don't know if it's right

@flytoankang use the actual class names, which match the CSS part (the part in the <style></style> tags) but without the . (dot).. the dot is used in the CSS to show tha it is a class and not an id or anything else

Lobster isn't a font recognized by browsers so it doesn't know how to render that, that's why you need to import it from Google with a link tag

.push() adds one to an existing element. With that if statement you've already checked for that so will simply do:
collection[id][prop] = value;

https://codepen.io/FreeCodeCamp/pen/wMQrXV
Inspired by this codepen, I'm trying to make the same combo of thumbnail-image & caption centered below it, but my picture would be small and on the left side of the page, not centered.
I can’t get the the picture+caption to be on the left while having the caption inside the sexy thumbnail wrapping. My current code goes something like this:

<div class="thumbnail">
<img title="x" class=" img-responsive" alt="x" src="y">
            <div class="caption">z</div>
</div>

If i skip the <div class="thumbnail"> bit and instead write <img title="x" class=" img-responsive thumbnail" etc., i get the caption text outside the thumbnail wrapping. Please help!

you're missing an opening < before your form
@Deepak8717
@Nifled it's a tricky subject. i don't know of a great way to vertically align things. you could give the span an id, and in CSS select that ID and assign it display: block and some margin-top to try to center it.

@Deepak8717 this will sound weird, but try re-typing this part
  #cat-photo-form {
    background-color: green;
  }
@Deepak8717 you shouldn't have added the ID here <p id="cat-photo-form"> but that is not what is causing the problem
the only thing that fixes it, for me, is when i delete that part and re-type it

Hi guys, I'm working on the 'destroyer' challenge at which is: "You will be provided with an initial array (the first argument in the destroyer function), followed by one or more arguments. Remove all elements from the initial array that are of the same value as these arguments."

I'm currently testing the following code to achieve this:
function destroyer(arr) {

for (var i = 1; i < arguments.length; i++) {
arr = arr.filter(function(val) {
return arguments[i] !== val;
});
}

return arr;
}

destroyer([1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3], 2, 3);

--
unfortunately, it keeps returning all of the entries.. any hints on where to improve? :)
