I need help with making an image smaller.
.
this is my first time using this lol
Create a class called smaller-image and use it to resize the image so that it's only 100 pixels wide.
Tom
@Torayx
Sep 24 2016 00:16
@laylanour in your body make the class .smaller image {}
put your new size in the {}
Anthony Belardo
@anthonybelardo
Sep 24 2016 00:18
Another thing you can do is define the height or width inline with your img element. Entering a height without width will automatically scale the image and vice versa.
Try this: .smaller-image { height: 50%; }

@andyblarblar @laylanour to make a class in html, you create
.smaller-image{width:100px} in between <style></style> and then assign that class to target html element , in this case an image so it will be
<img class="smaller-image" ..
laylanour
@laylanour
Sep 24 2016 00:25
thanks guys im not sure where to insert the width of 100px?

Note that in most cases, img elements are self-closing.

Try it with this image:

Commenting is a way that you can leave comments within your code without affecting the code itself.

Commenting is also a convenient way to make code inactive without having to delete it entirely.

You can start a comment with <!-- and end a comment with -->

Uncomment your h1, h2 and p elements.

Can anybody help me out?

Comment out your h1 element so that it is not visible on your page.
Leave your h2 element uncommented so that it is visible on your page.
Comment out your p element so that it is not visible on your page.
Be sure to close each of your comments with -->.
Do not change the order of the h1 h2 or p in the code.

@coymeetsworld And any other obvious points you see could/should be improved.
@coymeetsworld Maybe not even something that I did wrong but there were two questions. One: How do I implement that when I click the Bio link it transitions to the section rather than instantly jumps. Two: If you resize the browser width below 800px the image keeps moving and staying center rather than overflowing while the right text does stop moving. Would rather have them both stop moving and overflow.
Darren

@DionYakka think of each div as a container... inside the row container you have 2 "col-xs-6" containers...they need to be between the 'row' opening and closind div tags...
DionYakka

ok thanks

@DarrenfJ My frustration with Coursera! After finding someone to talk with, they said the group was on Slack. After connecting with everyone, a few of the mentioned FCC. After a few more [bad] lessons of AngularJS, most of the students abandoned Coursera for FCC. I hung in there a few more lessons but when I realized I procrastinating and that I was no longer looking forward to continuing, I cut my loses and here I am.

@nicdthomson from what you posted there you only have two closing </div>s
@nicdthomson and you have four opening <div>s
nicdthomson
@nicdthomson

@nicdthomson here's your code reposted, but with indentation:

<div class="container-fluid">
     <div class="row">
          <div class="col-xs-8"> <h2 class="text-primary text-center">CatPhotoApp</h2>
          </div>
          <div class="col-xs-4"><a href="#"><img class="img-responsive thick-green-border" src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. "></a>
          </div>

see how 'row' and 'container-fluid' are missing their closing tags?

@nicdthomson from: http://v4-alpha.getbootstrap.com/layout/grid/
Quick start example
If you’re using Bootstrap’s compiled CSS, this the example you’ll want to start with.

One of three columns One of three columns One of three columns

<div class="container">
  <div class="row">
    <div class="col-sm-4">
      One of three columns
    </div>
    <div class="col-sm-4">
      One of three columns
    </div>
    <div class="col-sm-4">
      One of three columns
    </div>
  </div>
</div>

The above example creates three equal-width columns on small, medium, large, and extra large devices using our predefined grid classes. Those columns are centered in the page with the parent .container.

@jadefox10200
Sep 24 2016 05:31
So if you want to nest something inside that form tag it would mean to put it inside the form tag. In this example I nest a <p> tag in the form:
<form>
<p>This text will appear "inside" the form</p>
</form>

yah for all tips and tricks abotu markdown.. and if you click the two comment balloon above it you can switch from 'chat' to 'compile' that allows you to build markdown stuff without worrying about the shift-enter
that should say 'compose' mode

i hear the new curriculum is supposed to cover more.. sort of waiting on that.. haven't got into the Devtips vids on CSS yet either... another area id like to solidify what i know
but i agree, i think they skimmed over it

I feel, that if I only knew what I learned on FCC there is no way I would be able to build a profile page that I would be happy with. I'm not comfortable with bootstrap yet because it was doing other things to my elements and so I got rid of altogether which is why I'm building the entire page from scratch. Which, by the way, is something I will never do again. It takes forever.

@naveenPathaknaveen Ok, so first you need to nest all of the buttons inside one div element and assign that div the class of rows. Next stick each button in it own div inside of rows and give each a class col-xs-4.
You have 3 elements so 4 x 3 = 12.
which is why col-xs4

@oghenefemy So, sorry to say I don't know python. I learned Golang instead. But if you're just starting I would highly recommend learning programming as a subject. Much more valuable than just learning one language. When I took that path, I can read & understand python, C, C++, Java, JS, etc and I don't know most of those languages.
@oghenefemy Programming is a subject in and of itself while the language is simply the implementation. Any particular reason you want to learn Python?

@oghenefemy Yeah, it's a language apple made and put out. Before that, it was done with a language called Objective-C. Personally, I hate Objective-C with an undying passion. However, swift is very similar in look and syntax to javascript. So, once you know programming and Javascript, switching over to swift is pretty easy.

@oghenefemy Once you get the foundation, you will have a better idea of where you want to go or what you no longer want to do. You have to change your lifestyle for a bit and consume everything programming. Join groups (like this and local ones), find beginner books, take other free courses in your target language after you pick it (…JS).
