@khaduch so I got rid of that. Basically what I want is a margin around everything. But I still want the backgrounds of the individual divs to remain . I dont want them to be placed in a box and then the body's background to come through. Kind of like https://lipis.github.io/bootstrap-social/ . It's almost as if the whole page is within a margin.

@dylansoars Do you know how to use Dev Tools to peek at the code on the sites you are emulating? I looked at that social buttons page you mentioned and they are using bootstrap jumbotron (outside a div class="container") for that colored area at the top and bootstrap footer for colored band at bottom.

Sep 28 2016 00:30
@GetBig33 - you should be declaring a CSS style rule within the <style> </style> tags on the page. It should probably be like other rules there - it will have an identifier of h2, then an opening brace {, then the color: blue; then a closing brace }. Do you have code to post?

Sep 28 2016 00:35
@GetBig33 - right, so adding the CSS rule to the <style> section is supposed to do that. Can you post your code? I put the basic code that you have to enter in my previous comment - but I want to see the current code that you have, perhaps you have an error, if you've tried to add the code.

Sep 28 2016 00:36

Remove the style attribute from your h2 element.

Create a style element.

Your h2 element should be blue.

Ensure that your stylesheet h2 declaration is valid with a semicolon and closing brace.

Make sure all your style elements are valid and have a closing tag.

okey these are the questions i have got the first two
i created a style at the top as <style></sytle>
then my h2 element <h2>CatPhotoApp</h2>
then that question comes in
Ken Haduch

@stephengordonla - there is a strange thing that happens with the editor now and then - try going down to the next line and adding spaces at the end to pad it out to the length of your button line, and see if you can then go and edit the button line - it is a very crazy editor problem...

Ken Haduch
@khaduch
Sep 28 2016 01:05
@GetBig33 - you now have to add a class style declaration with the name red-text, which should be written as .red-text in the style section. This must be after the current style rule for the h2 elements, because of the order that they are applied. Add a color: red; attribute, then add the class to your <h2> element

submit data to a server using nothing more than pure HTML. You can do this by specifying an action on your form element.
For example:

<form action="/url-where-you-want-to-submit-form-data"></form>
Nest your text field in a form element. Add the action="/submit-cat-photo" attribute to this form element.

I have a JavaScript question. I'm on Challenge "Stand in Line". I am not sure what to do. I feel the challenge did not give enough clarification. Here's my code:
function nextInLine(arr, item) {
  // Your code here
  arr.push(item);
  arr.shift();
  return arr.shift(); // Change this line
}

// Test Setup
var testArr = [1,2,3,4,5];

// Display Code
console.log("Before: " + JSON.stringify(testArr));
console.log(nextInLine(testArr, 6)); // Modify this line to test
console.log("After: " + JSON.stringify(testArr));

<h2 class="red-text"> You're adding a class name so you can target that class in CSS. Without the class name, your .red-text{color:red;} isn't doing anything
You're just telling it, target this and do this to it. But it doesn't have anything to target, so it's doing nothing
Do you understand?

Hey guys - wondering if this has happened to anyone else?! I am on the jQuery section and all of the sudden each challenged is coming up with the validation checks already marked off. They are greyed out in my map proving I have not completed them yet. I have to manually reset every page so that I can do the challenges myself...its really strange as it didn't do that for HTML/CSS or Responsive Design with Boootstrap portion. Has anyone else had this issue? How do I fix this or is it something I need to email FreeCodeCamp about?

@GetBig33 What you did earlier was targeted a class which needs a period before it when in CSS, when you target a plain element you don't need to put anything before it. But yes, same thing

@joannapopo - you cannot just put a CSS [property and value in the element. You have to use style= or define a class, or set a CSS rule for the element.

@Girzima You need 2 p elements with Kitty Ipsum text.

Make sure each of your p elements has a closing tag.

Your p element should contain the first few words of the provided additional kitty ipsum text.

The first p element should have the class red-text.

Do not add a class attribute to the second p element.

Between the style tags, give the p elements font-size of 16px. Browser and Text zoom should be at 100%.

Using .addClass(), add only one class at a time to the same element, three different ways:

Add the animated class to all elements with type button.

Add the shake class to all the buttons with class .btn.

Add the btn-primary class to the button with id #target1.<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$("button").addClass(animated);
$(".btn").addClass(shake);
$("#target1").addClass(btn-primary);

@TheSwedishBaker What do you mean?
Ken Haduch
@khaduch
Sep 28 2016 02:50

@VaseJS - the problem is that you are using killList for both filtering operations, so only getting the result of filtering the original killList with the final argument. I fixed it by setting killList = aftermath;after your filter operation, so it is updated each time after you complete filtering it. Like this:

  for(var j = 0; j < arg.length; j++){
    aftermath = killList.filter(function(val){
      console.log("in filter - val = " + val + " arg[j] = " + arg[j]);
      return !(val === arg[j]);
    });
    console.log("Aftermath = " + JSON.stringify(aftermath));
    killList = aftermath;

I added the extra console.log statements to see what the intermediate results were, after making a guess at what was going on.

@PkkerScott Don't rush those two things, take your time. You'll probably end up scraping your tribute page and redoing it 10 times because each time you'll realize you can do something better
those two assignment things
Alternatively, redo the course or do other courses on other websites. Codeacademy has an okay course for intro to HTML and CSS. Not as in depth as here but it's pretty good

Sep 28 2016 03:06
For your tribute page i'd take a look at the example and look at the code. Without copying it, take things away and put them back to see what they do so you have a better understanding
That's what I did. It says not to look at the code but I used it as a reference point to what I was doing wrong
A good rule is not to use something in your own page unless you're 100% sure of how it works and can use it without copying code
scott phothisane
@PkkerScott
Sep 28 2016 03:07
i felt like doing that, but when the video said don't look i said don't look to myself

Tear the code apart and learn what does what, it will help more imo than trying to do it by yourself
Of course google along the way and take notes if needed

@Trstevens Review the style section. You have a .red-text CSS declaration with color: red. That means that, for anything that has a class of "red-text", the color will change to red. What you want is to target all the <p> elements on the page with that font-size.

@LPR-309 is right. font size is not in any class. You need a class to assign that value @Trstevens

@AndrewHParker As a general rule of thumb, downloading a library is usually worth only if you that customize that library with your own set of rules.
If you won't do that, using Cloudfare links (like in the challenges here) is often as good :)
Simply in your <head> add this link:
https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/css/bootstrap.min.css for the CSS lib, and this
https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/js/bootstrap.min.js for the JS lib.
Happy coding

@alve24 coding takes a lot of practice. Imagine yourself as a musician... first start learning simple songs and performs that in front of family... You'll have time to compose the most beautiful song later in your career.

don't rush and take baby steps.. and don't worry if everything doesn't looks like the most beautiful website in the world! :thumbsup:
Happy coding :sparkles:

Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Sep 28 2016 05:19

@dylansoars it's a great start!!!!
:thumbsup: :sparkles:

Now to be picky: your page is not fully responsive, for small screen size the image will overlap the dotted lines, and the Header will go on a weird new line.
That said as a start is GREAT!!!

You'll have time to make things perfect over time! :) :) :)

@Trstevens in the <style> tag the class .smaller-image has width 100px. So you have to assign that class to the img for the img to have that property. eg. <img class="smaller-image" >
