@Manish-Giri I’m trying to make it show some weather info under the location, but while I know it’s not right, I’m just not sure what I can do or what to change from this point. The one helping me previously mentioned the second .getJSON call was a scoping issue.

Sep 29 2016 00:07
@KrisAlaine Correction! That will work if you want to change the text of the body to black. If you want to change the color of the body element (background/fill color) you'll have to use background: #000000or background-color: #000000

@AndrewHParker Technically, either way is acceptable, but you'll find more professional developers use external style sheets. The style tags are great for learning, and keeping everything all on one page (or even simple sites), but once you start having multiple page apps, you'll quickly realize how convenient it is to have an external stylesheet.
Manish Giri

Sep 29 2016 00:20

@Jspadgett82 notice that I don't put var here

wyaurl = 'http://api.openweathermap.org/data/2.5/weather?lat='+lat+'&lon='+long+'&appid=40f59e6113fb2dc24936838e8d72288a'

this ensures that the variable wyaurl is the one declared in the outermost global scope and not in whereYouAt's local scope

that would make wyaurl a string, not a variable

@Manish-Giri This

I'm working on the where do I belong bonfire, and I can't figure out the logic, I want to use an for loop and some combo of if/else statements to get it to run
function getIndexToIns(arr, num) {
  // Find my place in this sorted array.
  var sortedArray = arr.sort();
  for (var i = 0; i < sortedArray.length; i++){
    if (num => sortedArray[i]){
      return i;
    }
  }
}

getIndexToIns([40, 60], 50);

@marclennis you put your div class="container-fluid" at the bottom. They want you to nest the HTML in it, so this case before your h2 and after your form
just move the opening tag to above h2

@GetBig33 Look at the example on the left and see how they did the form, just put that around your input with the appropriate text
@Countx You need to add your "smaller-image" class to your img in HTML
@Countx so CSS knows what to target

@lgammada When you comment something it doesn't show it on the page. They're asking you to put a comment around your p element. To comment in html, do this <!-- comment --> So literally put <!-- before <p> and --> after </p>

@GetBig33 I'd recommend going back a few lessons and learning what a form and input is used for
@juliemac96 you know how you added a class to your h2? Do the same for your img
@juliemac96 just add it in before the src, make sure to put a space between the two
@juliemac96 multiple things can be in an opening tag
@juliemac96 once you have that, target that class like you did "red-text" in css and give it the correct width like the example shows
Julie Maciel
@juliemac96
Sep 29 2016 02:10
okay so im confused
Girzima
@Girzima
Sep 29 2016 02:12

i mean
class="class"
you put class"class"
 class="smaller-image"

@juliemac96 now target that class in css

@VaseJS http://codepen.io/Nyxx/full/ZpygWO/

here, look at the console and in the screen as well. Output appears in both places.

@VaseJS open the console by clicking on the console tab near the bottom of the codepen screen, here’s the output anyway
Object {
  type: "success",

Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Sep 29 2016 04:05
@nicolekawai okay, two problems
  1. there should be only one set of style tags
    <style>
    h2 {
    color: red;
    }
    </style>
    <style>
    .red-text {
    color: red;
    }
    </style>
    so this should be just
    <style>
    .red-text {

@Manish-Giri though my day was mostly wasted, in the end, we’re moving forward. During my quest (and frustration) I came across a callback url “?callback=“. It said to use this when the HTTP Request doesn’t work. Do you how these work?
@Manish-Giri When i append that to the end of the url it sends back a function with the information vs raw json data
@Manish-Giri it mentions it in the “Using callback functions” section at the top of the page in http://www.icndb.com/api/

@Trstevens this line is messy <div .silver-background { background-color: silver; } <p>Things cats love:</p>

@Trstevens this part: .silver-background { background-color: silver; } should be in the CSS

@Trstevens Create a new section above your </style> tag like this:

.silver-background {
background-color: silver;
}

You will then assign the class silver-background to your div element you wish to have the background.

Inside your style element, change the h2 selector to .red-text and update the color's value from blue to red.

Give your h2 element the class attribute with a value of 'red-text'.

Nest your text input element within a form element.

Make sure your form has an action attribute which is set to /submit-cat-photo

Make sure your form element has a closing tag.

@FreddyWendt a small friendly tip: learning to learn is a big step for every developer!
You will ALWAYS have to read documentations, blog and so on to keep your knowledge up to date.

As a matter of fact even free code camp promote this attitude, in fact they state: " Read - Search - Ask".
Nothing wrong in asking help here, we are here to try to help....

but if you want to help yourself always try a google search first and read a bit about the argoumet; if that fails then ask for someone's help.

(eg. your doubt could have been easily solved by a Google -> form control class bootstrap html <- search :D )

Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 29 2016 05:43
@ed1868 see how the <form> and the closing </form> are 'nested' around the <input .. text> element?
@joseehg24 you smaller image class in the CSS looks ok but you also have to add it to the hmtl part.. i think it <img>?
@joseehg24 syntax is <img class="className">
@joseehg24 class name here is the same name you used in the CSS but without the . (the dot)

Hi again folks! Hope everything is well.
My third day on FCC and my second block moment. I am supposed to display some text to each button. #target1 for button with id target1, #target2 for button with id target2 etc. I wrote the code, however after running the test it wouldn't submit . I checked everything and it seems fine. I cannot figure out what I'm missing. Here is the code:

<div class="container-fluid">
<h3 class="text-primary text-center">jQuery Playground</h3>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-xs-6">
<h4>#left-well</h4>
<div class="well" id="left-well">
<h4>#target1</h4>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target1"></button>
<h4>#target2</h4>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target2"></button>
<h4>#target3</h4>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target3"></button>
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-xs-6">
<h4>#right-well</h4>
<div class="well" id="right-well">
<h4>#target4</h4>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target4"></button>
<h4>#target5</h4>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target5"></button>
<h4>#target6</h4>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target6"></button>
</div>
</div>
</div>

<h4>#target2</h4> /* this is outside the button, will be another text */

Hello there, I am working on the section "Make Dead Links using the Hash Symbol". Here is my code:

<link href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Lobster" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">

<style>
.red-text {
color: red;
}

h2 {
font-family: Lobster, Monospace;
}

p {
font-size: 16px;
font-family: Monospace;
}

.thick-green-border {
border-color: green;
border-width: 10px;
border-style: solid;
border-radius: 50%;
}

.smaller-image {
width: 100px;
}
</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<p>Click here for <a #="http://www.freecatphotoapp.com">cat photos</a>

<img class="smaller-image thick-green-border" src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. ">

<p class="red-text">Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.</p>
<p class="red-text">Purr jump eat the grass rip the couch scratched sunbathe, shed everywhere rip the couch sleep in the sink fluffy fur catnip scratched.</p>

I have replaced "#" with the original "href" in the a element.
but it still seems to be wrong. Any help?

@zeroseed2016 to create an anchor link, replace the content of your href with the # symbol.
Example of usage:
<a href="#">

@zeroseed2016 you were close.. you changed the href to a # but it's actually the stuff in the " ..." that needs to be changed..

as @Marmiz mentions here:

@zeroseed2016 to create an anchor link, replace the content of your href with the # symbol.
Example of usage:
<a href="#">

@zeroseed2016 using the # links to the 'same page' but if you want to move around the page with links you can use it that way too, explained here: http://help.typepad.com/anchor-tags.html

@labib1211 you're close: first create an instance where you declare the class and property:

.red-text {
color: red;
}

Then you decide which element will have the property by adding the class. For example I choose my h1

<h1 class="red-text">Red Text</h1>

Is there anyway to adjust the landing spot on my nav menu? I'll hit the portfolio section and the screen will cover the section title -- same with the about section. If anyone has a minute to take a quick look at and give me some feedback, I would really appreciate the help. https://codepen.io/cmurphy580/pen/VKWAvm
