@rtrtrtrtrtrtrtrtrtrtrtrtg jquery is useful for small to medium size front end projects , or you could use mootools ~ for larger ones

you have to assign the class to the html

but img before it?

@Raptortilla
Oct 02 2016 01:44
<img class="smaller-image" src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. "> @maxofato
.smaller-image is the css class... yo have to assign it to the element that you want to modify.. in this case the img element
maxofato
@maxofato
Oct 02 2016 01:45
so do i put that under style?
Raptortilla
@Raptortilla
Oct 02 2016 01:45
nope
maxofato
@maxofato
Oct 02 2016 01:45
in the img element
Raptortilla
@Raptortilla
Oct 02 2016 01:46
that's the trick of declare a class... yo write a class to assign it to every element you want and not to have to write "style" on every one
in the img element simply assign the class smaller-image, using the attribute "class"...
maxofato
@maxofato

Give your body element the background-color of black.
Use the hex code for the color black instead of the word black. For example body { color: #000000; }

@jadefox10200 The files are stored locally on my computer, I can see them in my documents. I'm running both github and C9 simultaneously. Doing the github stuff on my computer, then checking it through this program called git-it which is running on c9.

@jadefox10200
Oct 02 2016 03:27
If the git-it is running on C9 it won't see the files on your computer.
@Datoufa Like I said, I didn't do that challenge but I would download the git-it application and do it from there. This way git-it can see what is on your computer.
I did that personally prior to coming to FCC.
Or, do everything from C9. Like, set up the files and repo on C9 so git-it can see what you're doing.
Datoufa
@Datoufa
Oct 02 2016 03:31
@jadefox10200 Okay I see what I was doing wrong. I was just confused why it wanted me to download gitit and shell on my computer. It wants me to run the programs from the C9 terminal.
jadefox10200
@jadefox10200
Oct 02 2016 03:31
Yeah. You'd have to either do everything on C9 or everything on your computer.
Otherwise, git-it can't see what is happening on your computer from C9.
Hope that helps.

Makes sense. Where I work, there are almost no developers and so to get anything up and running I have to do it all.

@lydatech OK, so I saw that video plus a few others. Basically, I should spend time right now on CSS and JS to have them down cold and for responsive. Would you mind taking a second by looking at my portfolio page to give feedback on it for improvements?
Probably, the next thing I should do with the page is make it responsive as only some parts are.

function correct() {
  if (cSeq.length == pSeq.length) {// If player turn array has same turns as cpu
    for (i = cSeq.length; i >= 0; i--) {    //go through the turnsstarting from the last and count down through them both
      console.log("what correct sees", cSeq[i], pSeq[i]); //THESE ELEMENTS COME BACK AS UNDEFINED!!!

  if (cSeq[i] != pSeq[i]) { //IF they dont match play wrong sound
        audioF['wrong'].play();
        wasWrong = 0;
        console.log("wrong", cSeq, pSeq[i], pSeq);
        pSeq = [];
        // setInterval(lastSeq(), 8000); // Say wrong and replay last seq
        // cpuTurn = 0;
      } else {
      //DO SOMETHING else(never gets here)
      }     }   } }

Question: why is pSeq cSeq[i] undefined in console?

$(".panel").on("click", function() {
  cpuTurn = 1;
  var panelId = $(this).attr("id");
  audioF[panelId.toLowerCase()].play(); //use id as soundfile
  $("#" + panelId).toggleClass('animate');
  //HOW DO i get this to activate and go back to default onclick?

  turnSeq.push(panelId);

  if (turnSeq.length <= 1 || turnSeq.length > pSeq.length) {
    var removed = turnSeq.splice(10, 1);
    pSeq.push(turnSeq[turnSeq.length - 1]);

They get their elements from the ID of the button hit

@KrisAlaine no it's not the same, but FCC sometimes changes your code in the next lesson so that it is suitable for the lesson, it removes stuff you wont need for that lesson
@KrisAlaine class="btn" is a bootstrap class

@christopher-siewert is there a handler called oninput? I think you want onChange
christopher-siewert
@christopher-siewert
Oct 02 2016 09:16
my input box react object renders a textbox, which is suposed to have an oninput function, updating the parent's state
oninput is a handler. on change doesn't work either

@Malobeid np - it's much easier to do this with the code running in a proper browser because the console gives you better error messages than codepen

@r1chard5mith true that!
Richard Smith
@r1chard5mith
Oct 02 2016 09:48
If you know how to use a proper editor, it's worth having an empty html page to drop some of the later algorithms into
so that you can see the errors
@FreshCapsule have you done any react yet?
FreshCapsule

Richard Smith
@r1chard5mith
Oct 02 2016 09:51
@FreshCapsule that's cool - I've been doing it the last couple of weeks
and because ti goes through the transpiler, the error messages are useless
you get like "this is not defined" and there'll be a stack of 15 functions
FreshCapsule
@FreshCapsule
Oct 02 2016 09:52
Nice! How is it? I've heard just setting up a react project is hard(involving a lot of dependancies)
Richard Smith
@r1chard5mith
Oct 02 2016 09:52
and the line numbers don't match any more
it's like a hump
it's too much for small things, but once you 'get it' you can see how to scale up fast
does that make sense?
you have to have way too much scaffolding, but then you start to see why you need it all
I'm making the 'roguelike' game at the moment, it's lots of fun
FreshCapsule

Richard Smith
@r1chard5mith

because react changes the views automagically - all you have to do is update this magic variable called the state
so, you change the players coordinates and he moves
it's fun

@Harshi640 Sorry don't know enough. According to W3Schools : "The clone() method makes a copy of selected elements, including child nodes, text and attributes", all instances it finds. There is also an optional parameter which you can set to false to disallow copying any event handlers on that element.

quick question: do you think it's necessary to write a media query for a viewport less than 320px? I mean, 320px imo is a pretty small device width right?
Richard Smith

@AmitP88 do you know that you can nest it?
you just have a container with rows in it and each row has columns that add up to 12
are you building something for real, or doing the challenges here?

I mean, I've gotten it pretty responsive for pretty much most of the viewports, I'm just wondering if I need to still need to make it for really small devices like old flip phones and watches, etc
Richard Smith
@r1chard5mith
Oct 02 2016 10:58
I guess it just depends who's going to look at it
noone is really going to hire you after looking at your site on their watch
just have a super-minimal site that you serve to tiny devices?
just "hire me" and a phone # lol
Amit Patel
@AmitP88
