Hey, has anyone experienced the problem where the entire screen shifts left and will not correct itself? There is no lateral toggle bar to bring the screen back to the right so I can only see 1/2 of the directions on the right of the screen. I have refreshed, restarted, logged out, cleared by browser and it continues to randomly do this? Any suggestions or similar experiences?

@Drbathound I recommend using input type depending on what input you will be typing in
If you want your user to type their email then you need to use input type=email

@Deet3r check your screen setting.
Restarting your computer won't solve nothing. You need to change your screen setting. Maybe you press a keyboard shortcut to change your screen without u knowing. I done it before.

Oct 05 2016 00:44 UTC
here's an easy fix
copy paste my code
<div id="test" class="col-sm-4 col-xs-12">
col-xs-12
</div>

@media (max-width:768px){

test{

background-color:blue!important;

}
}

@media (max-width:768px){
  #test{
    background-color:blue!important;

}
you can also change the text as well if you wanted

In the HTML5 and CSS section of FreeCodeCamp we built a Cat Photo App. Now let's go back to it. This time, we'll style it using the popular Bootstrap responsive CSS framework.

Bootstrap will figure out how wide your screen is and respond by resizing your HTML elements - hence the name Responsive Design.

With responsive design, there is no need to design a mobile version of your website. It will look good on devices with screens of any width.

You can add Bootstrap to any app by adding the following code to the top of your HTML:

<link rel="stylesheet" href="//maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.1/css/bootstrap.min.css"/>

In this case, we've already added it for you to this page behind the scenes.

To get started, we should nest all of our HTML in a div element with the class container-fluid. @Raptortilla

Use jQuery to Modify the Entire Page
We're done playing with our jQuery playground. Let's tear it down!

jQuery can target the body element as well.

Here's how we would make the entire body fade out: $("body").addClass("animated fadeOut");

But let's do something more dramatic. Add the classes animated and hinge to your body element.

I'm having trouble with this one

you only need this:

add it to the JS section of codepen

@puntje and to apply the img element i need to type "img" next to it right?

@azkev1 you should already have an img element
to apply a class to an element you can use attribute class

So guys, I have a broad question:

If you were me (no formal training...just self taught at this point. Basic HTML/CSS/JavaScript)

What would you do to get a job as a front-end programmer:

  • Go to an actual school and get a degree in Computer Science
  • Sign up for a live Boot Camp
  • Continue what I'm doing, and build some websites/apps that I can show on my resume
  • "other"

Hello everyone!

I'm trying to add
Bootstrap in HTML using

<link rel="stylesheet" href="//maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.1/css/bootstrap.min.css"/>

And I'm required to nest all of the HTML in a div element with the class container-fluid.

Is the class supposed to go within the <style>?

@quebs19 ```

<input type="text" class="form-control" placeholder="cat photo URL" required>

</form>```

@JordanPPowell, Hi! I am working on the question for Size your Images.
I’m not sure if I should use the format: .smaller-image {
width: 100px;
}

or if I should use the format: class="red-text”, for example?

I know understand the question as telling me to put it in my img element. But I’m confused as to exactly how to go about doing it.
Here is an example of what I tried.

you would use both @Amorabrown
you would create the class .smaller-image { width:100 px;}
and then use the class like this: class ="smaller-image"

@JordanPPowell Okay, so I go the correct answer, but I still want to know.. Could this have been done more than one way? I can check too.

<link href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Lobster" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
<style>
  .smaller-image {
    width: 100px
  }

  .red-text {

  }

  h2 {
    font-family: Lobster, Monospace;
  }

  p {
    font-size: 16px;
    font-family: Monospace;
  }

</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<img src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. "class="smaller-image">

Usually it would look like this
<img class="smaller-image" src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. ">
@Amorabrown
@Amorabrown you shouldn;t nee to put the class in quotations. By that I mean the word "class="smaller-image"

@JordanPPowell I guess what I’m trying to say is that, I could have put the smaller-image at the beginning or end like such

<img src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. class="smaller-image">

or

<img class="smaller-image" src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. ">

I just learned that, that’s also what confused me lol

Hey, guys. I'm doing the wikipedia viewer task. I have a style-related question: for some reason my input-button group appears with the input above the button (they should be next to each other). This is not an issue unless I use jQuery to give it animation – as below:

http://codepen.io/robertridley1988/full/YGNVpV/

Not sure why this is happening. Here is my HTML:

<div class="container-fluid"><!-- fluid-->
  <div class="jumbotron"><!--jumbo-->

    <div class="row"><!-- row-->
      <div class="col-md-3"></div>
      <div class="col-md-6">
        <div class="text-center"><!-- text-center -->
          <h1 class="text-center" id="search-icon"><button id="butt"><i class="fa fa-search" aria-hidden="true"></i></button></h1>
          <div class="input-group"><!-- /input-group -->
            <input type="text" class="form-control" placeholder="Search Wikipedia">
              <span class="input-group-btn">
                <button class="btn btn-default" type="button">Go!</button>
              </span>
          </div><!-- /input-group -->
        </div><!-- text-center -->
      </div><!-- col-md-6-->
      </div><!--row-->
   </div> <!--jumbo-->
 </div> <!-- fluid-->

and here is my jQuery:

$(document).ready(function(){
  $('#search-icon').on('click', function(){
    $('#search-icon').hide();
    $('.input-group').slideDown('slow');
  });
});

Thanks

Hey I am on the exercise Use a CSS Class to Style an Element, it seems like it wants to me override my CSS color values, but the logic has me a bit confused.

Darren
@DarrenfJ
Oct 05 2016 07:22 UTC
@leil124 not really but if you want to create the interface that allows people to see what you built, then yes
unless you are building mobile apps or desktop applications
@EvaNovaM86 what have you tried with it so far?
Sergii
@sergii-zhuravel
Oct 05 2016 07:23 UTC
@leil124 JS is the language to work with HTML and CSS. So yes, you should know the basics

@JordanPPowell
Oct 05 2016 07:23 UTC
@EvaNovaM86 need a hand?
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Oct 05 2016 07:23 UTC
I think it's just aksing you to put two classes in one html element or something, right? and it accepts whatever is 'last' in the CSS section
JordanPPowell
@JordanPPowell
Oct 05 2016 07:23 UTC
it wants you to make a class and then use the class
.redtext
Evelyn Young
@EvaNovaM86
Oct 05 2016 07:24 UTC

@leil124 I have tried creating different classes, but I don't understand what they want me to do with the color of the text.

Your h2 element should be red.
Your h2 element should have the class red-text.
Your stylesheet should declare a red-text class and have its color set to red.
Do not use inline style declarations like style="color: red" in your h2 element.

JordanPPowell
@JordanPPowell
Oct 05 2016 07:24 UTC
whats your code so far?
@EvaNovaM86
Evelyn Young
@EvaNovaM86
Oct 05 2016 07:25 UTC

<style>
h2 {
color: red;
}

.blue-text {
color: blue;
}
</style>

<h2>CatPhotoApp</h2>

<p>Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.</p>

Darren
@DarrenfJ
Oct 05 2016 07:25 UTC

ah yes.. that one.. yah @JordanPPowell is right

it wants you to make a class and then use the class
.redtext

JordanPPowell
@JordanPPowell
Oct 05 2016 07:25 UTC
ok so you need to make a class first
.red-text {
color: red;
}
ad then use that class on hour h2 element
@EvaNovaM86
Evelyn Young
@EvaNovaM86
Oct 05 2016 07:25 UTC
How do i tell that to target h2?
