Your <style></style> is not your HTML, it's your CSS. The links above your </style> is your <head>
You're putting everything other than that, which is your HTML that shows on the webpage, into a div

@anesCode Emphasize the text in your target4 button by adding HTML tags.
Make sure the text is otherwise unchanged.
Do not alter any other text.
Make sure you are using .html() and not .text().
Make sure to select button id="target4" with jQuery.
1 and 4 are confusing me

Then you'd want to apply it to the .thick-green-border class like so:

@imshivamkumar:

Replace the value of your a element's href attribute with a #, also known as a hash symbol, to turn it into a dead link.

href is an attribute and it’s value is "value here"… so togetherhref="value here"… currently your value is a link… so replace the link with#` which will make it dead… so upon clicking it… it will not redirect you anywhere.

@fenias0306 - if you put the effort into learning, the lessons are pretty good at bringing you through at a nice pace. You really have to spend the time reading and understanding the early materials, if you have no previous programming experience. There will be bumps along the way, too, but you will learn (or should learn) as you go along, and there are other resources and of course these help rooms to provide help. You should give it a try - it's a good program!

Then apply class="silver-background" to the element that you are supposed to set it for.
The elements (div, h2, etc.) should be after the closing </style> tag.

@acting2332 - oh, okay - you should wrap that <input type="text" placeholder="cat photo URL"> element with the <form> and </form>, and put the action attribute on the opening form element tag. So something like this:

With the action attribute on the form. OF course, I left out the details of the input element, etc.

Is jQuery zero-indexed? From the way I see it, target:nth-child(2) has an effect on the second element. So, when we mention target:even, shouldn't it have an effect on the 2, 4 and 6th elemt?

When adding the bootstrap to the cat photo app, what elements/html is required for the container-fluid to work?
Brian
@sludge256
Nov 06 2016 05:55

Because jQuery's implementation of :nth- selectors is strictly derived from the CSS specification, the value of n is "1-indexed", meaning that the counting starts at 1. For other selector expressions such as :eq() or :even jQuery follows JavaScript's "0-indexed" counting.

Hi all. i'm currently busy with the confirm ending challenge and getting some strange results when the ending is larger than one character. When I console.log len I get -1... Any idea what i'm doing wrong? My code: ```
function confirmEnding(str, target) {
// "Never give up and good luck will find you."
// -- Falcor
len = -target.length;
console.log("len: " + len);
console.log("extract: " + str.substr(str.length, len));
if (str.substr(str.length, len) === target) {

return true;
} else {
return false;
}
}
confirmEnding("He has to give me a new name", "name");
```
Give a Background Color to a Div Element
wah it worked brahhhh
thank you so much
izakibikas
@izakibikas
@daz94 you are welcome
Brent
@Brentc360
Nov 06 2016 08:53
yes I set my element? Div, then try n do the back ground name then make the class?
i have it written like this div .silver-background {Background-color: Silver;}
izakibikas
@izakibikas
Nov 06 2016 08:54
@Brentc360 remove the div
Brent
@Brentc360
Nov 06 2016 08:54
but the div element isnt triggering for the silver class
izakibikas
@izakibikas
Nov 06 2016 08:54
just write: .silver-background {Background-color: Silver;}
in the style tag
and in the div element, add class="silver-background"
Brent
@Brentc360
Nov 06 2016 08:55
But I need it to trigger on everything in my <div>
izakibikas
@izakibikas
Nov 06 2016 08:56
oh then just write: div {Background-color: Silver;}
div {background-color: silver;}
Brent
@Brentc360
Nov 06 2016 08:58
Hummm, that does make my background Silver like it wants but is still not triggering the two test points
Give your div element the class silver-background.
Your div element should have a silver background.
izakibikas
@izakibikas
Nov 06 2016 08:59
then your code should be like this:
<div class="silver-background">
thats it
other code doesn't matter
@izakibikas No it isnt
izakibikas
@izakibikas
Nov 06 2016 09:31
ok
i'll give you an example
var animal = {sleeps: true}
var rabbit = {eats: true}
rabbit.proto = animal
now if you use alert(rabbit.sleeps) , it'll return true
use double underscore before and after the proto, it seems like gitter changes texts with double underscore around it to bold
Mario
@mariomeissner
Nov 06 2016 09:34
But thats not a good way of doing it
Because proto is deprecated
Hi I want to ask regarding inheritance.
<div class="well" id="left-well">
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target1">#target1</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target2">#target2</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target3">#target3</button>
</div>
izakibikas
@izakibikas
@daz94 :small_blue_diamond:
@josephinemonica yes, what is the problem here?
josephinemonica
@josephinemonica
Nov 06 2016 09:53
If I give background-color : red to div class.. Why it only inherits to the first button (target1)?
I thought div is the parent of all the buttons
What's the rule here @izakibikas ?
izakibikas
@izakibikas
Nov 06 2016 09:54
does that really happen?
josephinemonica
@josephinemonica
Nov 06 2016 09:54
yes
izakibikas
@izakibikas
Nov 06 2016 09:54
all buttons should either gain no background color or all buttons should be red
josephinemonica
@josephinemonica
Nov 06 2016 09:55
izakibikas
@izakibikas
Nov 06 2016 09:55
ooh
jquery
josephinemonica
@josephinemonica
Nov 06 2016 09:56
Yes
izakibikas
@izakibikas
Nov 06 2016 09:56
then you should use jquery to modify it
josephinemonica
@josephinemonica
Nov 06 2016 09:56
@izakibikas Yah but only target1 change to red
izakibikas
@izakibikas
Nov 06 2016 09:56
$("#target1").css("color", "red");
$("#target1").prop("disabled", true);
$("#target4").remove();
});
</script>
try this
josephinemonica
@josephinemonica
Nov 06 2016 09:56
@izakibikas my code worked. I passed the challenge
I'm just not sure about the behaviouor
@izakibikas I want to ask why only target1 turns red?
well, thats what jquery is there for
if you see the code above
josephinemonica
@izakibikas doesn't it change the parent which is div
izakibikas
you can see that only target1's parent css's background color has been changed
josephinemonica
@josephinemonica
Nov 06 2016 09:58
@izakibikas and div is the parent for all three targets
izakibikas
@izakibikas
Nov 06 2016 09:58
yes, all buttons are within the same div, but the jqeury has affected only target1
josephinemonica
@josephinemonica
Nov 06 2016 09:58
@izakibikas yeah but the parent of target1 is the same with the other parents
@izakibikas doesn't jquery affect the parent?
izakibikas
@izakibikas
Nov 06 2016 09:59
@josephinemonica yes it does, but the jquery code above only affects target1 button and not all buttons, it is providing the red background to specified button that is target1
if you see this line of code: <script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#target1").css("color", "red");
$("#target1").prop("disabled", true);
$("#target4").remove();
$("#target2").appendTo("#right-well");
$("#target5").clone().appendTo("#left-well");
$("#target1").parent().css("background-color", "red");
});
</script>
$("#target1").parent().css("background-color", "red");
@izakibikas Maybe I'll change my question to
<div class="well" id="left-well" style="background-color:red">
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target1">#target1</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target2">#target2</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target3">#target3</button>
</div>
