This might seem like a dumb question but I can't figure out how target:nth-child(n) works. In the example we were able to access the 2nd element in the specific class (left-well) but how does it know that you want to access the 2nd element from the class left-well? Why didn't it do the 2nd class listed from the top of the html code.

@clc80 anyways. It works by finding the parent of .target which in this case is the well class. And then from the well come it takes the second child of the .target selector type
.target is a child of the well class since it is nested inside of it

Target the same element with multiple jQuery Selectors

Add the animated class to all elements with type button.

Add the shake class to all the buttons with class .btn.

Add the btn-primary class to the button with id #target1.

Note
You should only be targeting one element and adding only one class at a time. Altogether, your three individual selectors will end up adding the three classes shake, animated, and btn-primary to #target1.

__mifflin__
@cdrainxv
Nov 09 2016 01:19

@orionsweiss:

For future reference:

<style>
 selector {
 property: value;
}
</style>
  • selector:
    if it is a class: add. before class name. Ex: .red-text, etc
    if it is an element: add just the element name. Ex: p or h2, etc
    if it is an id: add # before the id name. Ex: #orange-text, etc
  • property:
    can be things you can change. Ex: color or font-size, etc
  • value:
    how you want to change the property: Ex: 16px increases size of property, pink changes color of property.

Hello I am working on #79 Create a Custom Heading with bootstrap. I am stuck on Nest your topmost img element within a div with the class col-xs-4.
Nest your h2 element within a div with the class col-xs-8.

Here is what I have <div class = "row" >
<h2 class="col-xs-8 text-primary text-center">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<a href="#"><img class="col-xs-4 img-responsive thick-green-border" src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. "></a>

Use the $("button") selector.
Use the $(".btn") selector.
Use the $("#target1") selector.
Only add one class with each of your three selectors.
Your #target1 element should have the classes animated‚ shake and btn-primary.
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$("button")
$(".btn")
$("#target1")
});
</script>

Using .addClass(), add only one class at a time to the same element, three different ways:

Add the animated class to all elements with type button.

Add the shake class to all the buttons with class .btn.

Add the btn-primary class to the button with id #target1.

how do i do this

Hey guys and gals, I was wondering about something and would be really grateful for your input. I'm more or less new to coding and there are some challenges on FCC that are not fully explained. Also sometimes it's more on the "how" and not the "why". Could I get some recommendations on resources that I could read up or some supplemental courses that I could follow to get a better understanding?

@atari3000:

Replace the value of your a element's href attribute with a #, also known as a hash symbol, to turn it into a dead link.

href is an attribute and it’s value is "value here"… so together
href="value here"… currently your value is a link… so replace the link with # which will make it dead… so upon clicking it… it will not redirect you anywhere.

@Sombra76 you should add your pink-text to teh existing <h1> instead of creating a new one
@Sombra76 i also don;t see the class as a CSS element up in the CSS section (between the <style></style> tags)

hi all, newby here, I am having trouble with "change the font size of an element" challenge.

<style>
.red-text {
color: red;
}
p{
font-size: 16px;
}
</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<p class="red-text">Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.</p>

<p1>Purr jump eat the grass rip the couch scratched sunbathe, shed everywhere rip the couch sleep in the sink fluffy fur catnip scratched.</p1>

Hello!
I am making a frogger game with a repo given me by Udacity.
Can someone help me on where or how I use the repo they gave me though as the instructins dont seem to cover that https://docs.google.com/document/d/1v01aScPjSWCCWQLIpFqvg3-vXLH2e8_SZQKC8jNO0Dc/pub

So question: How/where do i use the given Repos info to make my game???

Darren

Nov 09 2016 05:57
@dtonlai part 2 is add the document ready function: "Inside your script element, add this code: $(document).ready(function() { to your script. Then close it on the following line (still inside your script element) with: });"

@sathya-ghub People use vim because it makes them feel like it boosts productivity, which can be true and false. It takes a long while for it to make a difference, productivity wise. the difference between server err and net err
slri
@slri
Nov 09 2016 07:42
@JeffGreenlee42 Why would you scale it's height according to the width of the viewport?
@Sunqinying XMLHttpRequest can't determine between the network and server error. It can only display errors that were sent from the server itself. If it can't reach the server, XMLHttpRequest won't know what's happening.
You'll need to consult something else for a network related error.

@JeffGreenlee42 You know it's flexible size. If you set the font size to 2rem, padding around the buttons to 10px, and a top and bottom margin of 5px, that means you have twice the font-size of the html element + 20px + 10px. Lets say that html's font size is 16px. (16px*2)+20px+10px = 62px total height
You can use pixels if it's less than or equal to 15px at a time. : )
But you can do the same with percentages, vh, or just about any unit as long as you keep it consistent.
