@W-D-E here Emphasize the text in your target4 button by adding HTML tags.
Make sure the text is otherwise unchanged.
Do not alter any other text.
Make sure you are using .html() and not .text().
Make sure to select button id="target4" with jQuery.

then here is my code <script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#target1").css("color", "red");
$("#target4").html("<em>target4</em>");

});
</script>

<div class="container-fluid">
<h3 class="text-primary text-center">jQuery Playground</h3>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-xs-6">
<h4>#left-well</h4>
<div class="well" id="left-well">
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target1">#target1</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target2">#target2</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target3">#target3</button>
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-xs-6">
<h4>#right-well</h4>
<div class="well" id="right-well">
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target4">#target4</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target5">#target5</button>

@kenneth1996 When you post code in here, put three marks before the code ``` on its own line, then put another three of those marks on its own line after the code.
The ``` marks come from the key above the tab key, below the escape key

Hey!! Can I have some help with the challenge "Target the same element with multiple jQuery Selectors" The instructions are Although it is possible to add multiple classes in a single .addClass() call, let's add them to the same element in three separate ways.

Using .addClass(), add only one class at a time to the same element, three different ways:

Add the animated class to all elements with type button.

Add the shake class to all the buttons with class .btn.

Add the btn-primary class to the button with id #target1.

In addition to classes, each HTML element can also have an id attribute.

There are several benefits to using id attributes, and you'll learn more about them once you start using jQuery.

id attributes should be unique. Browsers won't enforce this, but it is a widely agreed upon best practice. So please don't give more than one element the same id attribute.

Here's an example of how you give your h2 element the id of cat-photo-app:

<h2 id="cat-photo-app">

Give your form element the id cat-photo-form.

This asks Nest all of your radio buttons within a <div class="row"> element. Then nest each of them within a <div class="col-xs-6"> element.

@mzedlach you want your code to set the quote inside the body of the click handler, somewhat like this -
  $('#getQuote').click(function(){
     $('.msgText').text(quoteDatabase[quoteSelector].quote);
  });

@mzedlach I keep everything in the anonymous function inside .ready() so as to avoid polluting the global namespace, if you're making a library, your global variables might end up clashing with another user, who is using variables with the same names as yours

@Manish-Giri but.... actuallly, no.... I mean.... okay, Original Way > Function is called, determine # value for which quote we're selecting, then when you click call this code, text is generated based on previous number. Your fix > Function is called, when you click, generate number, return text based on that number. So, does't the same code run each way? Or.... this leads me to believe that $(document).ready(newQuote); runs at the start of loading the page and "keeps in mind" all applicable "functions" that have been written. So, in my "Original Way" - a variable is created and saved ONCE. And every time that "click" function is run, then it just bases the info off of that one variable.
Does that stream of garble make sense?

a Div Element
You can set an element's background color with the background-color property.

For example, if you wanted an element's background color to be green, you'd put this within your style element:

.green-background {
background-color: green;
}
Create a class called silver-background with the background-color of silver. Assign this class to your div element.

Run tests (ctrl + enter)
Reset Help Bug
Give your div element the class silver-background.
Your div element should have a silver background.

@WhiteLeaf1103 somewhere else in the code you are "calling" the funciton.. and when you do so you are sending it a value for num
@WhiteLeaf1103 what's the name of the challenge?
__mifflin__
@cdrainxv
Nov 17 2016 06:49

@WhiteLeaf1103: Because of the function call at the bottom:

// Only change code below this line
function timesFive(num){
  return num * 5;
}
timesFive(5);

5 is an argument for your function and it gets passed into function timesFive(num) as the parameter num… So now it’s just return 5 * 5;

WhiteLeaf1103
@WhiteLeaf1103
Nov 17 2016 06:49
@DarrenfJ Return a Value from a Function with Return
@WhiteLeaf1103 you are sending an arguement to the function.. they give this as an example:
function plusThree(num) {
  return num + 3;
}
var answer = plusThree(5); // 8
that last line they are calling the funciton plusThree and sending it a 5 (the part in the brackets)

@ryan6627: It doesn’t open a new page. The whole point of making a dead link is that it doesn’t redirect you to someplace else.

it does
I wouldn't lie about something like this lol
go to "Make Images Mobile Responsive"
and click the link for yourself

@ryan6627: To a new tab or same page? Try refreshing and/or resetting the challenge and see if you can reproduce it.

@ryan6627 try refreshing the original page and see if the link gets fixed

refreshing and resetting allows me to actually click the tab, but it doesn't automatically open and take me to a duplicate page anymore. But if I right click, it still opens a duplicate
it could be adblock tho

@abith001: I don’t see a new p element. You should have three.

i thought the point of "dead link" was to make it so that you couldn't actually interact with the link
when i click it, I see a flash of white as if adblock blocked a popup

@ryan6627 it doesn't disable the element so it still clickable. # just tells the browser not to do anything when it's clicked.
@ryan6627 try another browser or turn off your adblock to test further

but right clicking gets around that, right?

@ryan6627 your href is your hyperlink reference.. it's where you want to go.. and # is no link... so it should 'link' to the same page... http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2800187/what-is-it-when-a-link-has-a-pound-sign-in-it

@ryan6627 and apparently you use it as a placeholder when you want to use the link but using javascript to do something with it

@abith001: You would still have three p elements at the end… look at the example:
<p>Here's a <a href="https://freecodecamp.com"> link to Free Code Camp</a> for you to follow.</p>

@abith001: Okay… now follow the instructions… use the text they provided as well as the link provided.
This is the link: http://www.freecatphotoapp.com
Use the actual text as per the instructions and not from the example.

@cdrainxv Your a element should be nested within your new p element.
Your p element should have the text "View more " (with a space after it).

@abith001: Yes, do that… the diagram will show you where to place the text.
