Nov 20 2016 00:15
@evan17gr are you on a specific challenge or is this for another project
Evan Kalvis
@evan17gr
Nov 20 2016 00:15
its for the tribute page project
Margaret
@Margaret2
Nov 20 2016 00:16
and so you want the text to basically overlap the image
?
Evan Kalvis
@evan17gr
Nov 20 2016 00:16
yes so i want the text on the image basically
Den Temple
@dentemple
Nov 20 2016 00:16
@evan17gr it might be best to edit a copy of the image instead, using something like MS Paint
Margaret
@Margaret2
Nov 20 2016 00:17
well, you can either make the image a background image
http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_background.asp
or use the z-index property
Evan Kalvis
@evan17gr
Nov 20 2016 00:17
i tried using the z-index but it didnt work
i ll try it again

So I know that the classes are right. They contiain 'smaller-image' and 'thick-green-border'. Its also picking up 'solid' for the border. I can't figure out why it wont pick up the width and color. https://www.freecodecamp.com/challenges/add-borders-around-your-elements#?solution=%0A%3Clink%20href%3D%22https%3A%2F%2Ffonts.googleapis.com%2Fcss%3Ffamily%3DLobster%22%20rel%3D%22stylesheet%22%20type%3D%22text%2Fcss%22%3E%0A%3Cstyle%3E%0A%20%20.red-text%20%7B%0A%20%20%20%20color%3A%20red%3B%0A%20%20%7D%0A%0A%20%20h2%20%7B%0A%20%20%20%20font-family%3A%20Lobster%2C%20Monospace%3B%0A%20%20%7D%0A%0A%20%20p%20%7B%0A%20%20%20%20font-size%3A%2016px%3B%0A%20%20%20%20font-family%3A%20Monospace%3B%0A%20%20%7D%0A%0A%20%20.smaller-image%20%7B%0A%20%20%20%20width%3A%20100px%3B%0A%20%20%7D%0A%20%20%0A%20%20.thick-green-border%20%7B%0A%C2%A0%C2%A0%C2%A0%C2%A0border-color%3A%20green%3B%0A%C2%A0%C2%A0%C2%A0%C2%A0border-width%3A%2010px%3B%0A%20%20%20%20border-style%3A%20solid%3B%0A%20%20%7D%0A%20%20%0A%3C%2Fstyle%3E%0A%0A%3Ch2%20class%3D%22red-text%22%3ECatPhotoApp%3C%2Fh2%3E%0A%0A%3Cimg%20class%3D%22smaller-image%20thick-green-border%22%20src%3D%22https%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2Ffcc-relaxing-cat%22%20alt%3D%22A%20cute%20orange%20cat%20lying%20on%20its%20back.%20%22%3E%0A%0A%0A%3Cp%20class%3D%22red-text%22%3EKitty%20ipsum%20dolor%20sit%20amet%2C%20shed%20everywhere%20shed%20everywhere%20stretching%20attack%20your%20ankles%20chase%20the%20red%20dot%2C%20hairball%20run%20catnip%20eat%20the%20grass%20sniff.%3C%2Fp%3E%0A%3Cp%20class%3D%22red-text%22%3EPurr%20jump%20eat%20the%20grass%20rip%20the%20couch%20scratched%20sunbathe%2C%20shed%20everywhere%20rip%20the%20couch%20sleep%20in%20the%20sink%20fluffy%20fur%20catnip%20scratched.%3C%2Fp%3E%0A

it is asking me to: Your img element should have the class smaller-image.
Your image should be 100 pixels wide. Browser zoom should be at 100%.

My code:

<link href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Lobster" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">

<style>
.red-text {
color: red;

Hi guys. so i just started doing the exercises. Now I am on the Bootstrap section. I noticed that, in the exercises, there's no line of code that connects the bootstrap api but I am still able to use its functionality. From my understanding, you need to link the api of whatever program it is you are using in order to use its inherent functions, no?

You are given a JSON object representing a part of your musical album collection. Each album has several properties and a unique id number as its key. Not all albums have complete information.

Write a function which takes an album's id (like 2548), a property prop (like "artist" or "tracks"), and a value (like "Addicted to Love") to modify the data in this collection.

If prop isn't "tracks" and value isn't empty (""), update or set the value for that record album's property.

Your function must always return the entire collection object.

There are several rules for handling incomplete data:

If prop is "tracks" but the album doesn't have a "tracks" property, create an empty array before adding the new value to the album's corresponding property.

If prop is "tracks" and value isn't empty (""), push the value onto the end of the album's existing tracks array.

If value is empty (""), delete the given prop property from the album.

I'm currently on the "Target the Parent of an Element Using jQuery" exercise . It's asking me to change the properties of a parent element.
I'm just wondering why I would ever use this function if I could just directly change the properties of the element by targeting the parent element itself, instead of going through the child?
If that makes any sense

Hi guys, I'm a little at lost at "Use Spans for Inline Elements" in the Responsive Design with Bootstrap section. I totally get the point of span elements. BUT! What were they talking in terms of inline elements and block-level elements? I don't see where that correlates to point of span elements.
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Nov 20 2016 03:06
@Rafelito45 span is an inline element, not a block one, so
ov
@Rafelito45
Nov 20 2016 03:10
@Manish-Giri so what is a block element? They mentioned that .btn is an inline and .btn.block is a block element. But aren't they used the same anyway? I thought it was simply class="btn btn-block".
ov
@Rafelito45
Nov 20 2016 03:14

@wileswarner when you are declaring a CSS selector in your style element, such as h2, you have to write it as ```

<style>
h2 {
... some attribute here
}
</style>
```
Dylan
@dhcodes
Nov 20 2016 03:17
@Rafelito45 a block element breaks later elements to the next line. An inline element allows elements to be side-by-side
if there's enough room on the display
ov
@Rafelito45
Nov 20 2016 03:20
@wileswarner also, in your HTML body, you add your CSS class here as
<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>
You keep the CSS declarations separate in the style element, and then you use those declarations below in your HTML code.
Our "pink-text" class overrode our body element's CSS declaration!
We just proved that our classes will override the body element's CSS. So the next logical question is, what can we do to override our pink-text class?
Create an additional CSS class called blue-text that gives an element the color blue. Make sure it's below your pink-text class declaration.
Apply the blue-text class to your h1 element in addition to your pink-text class, and let's see which one wins.
Applying multiple class attributes to a HTML element is done with a space between them like this:
class="class1 class2"
Note: It doesn't matter which order the classes are listed in the HTML element.
However, the order of the class declarations in the <style> section are what is important. The second declaration will always take precedence over the first. Because .blue-text is declared second, it overrides the attributes of .pink-text @abanoubkamal
<p> Purr jump eat the grass rip the couch scratched sunbathe, shed everywhere rip the couch sleep in the sink fluffy fur catnip scratched </p>
The first p element should have the class red-text.
Do not add a class attribute to the second p element.
Between the style tags, give the p elements font-size of 16px. Browser and Text zoom should be at 100%.
@dcruz87 Bootstrap is generally used by calling its classes. So, depending on what the lesson is asking you to do, usually what you're looking for is the name of the class to add a specific element
@dcruz87 basically, bootstrap is all about the class="BOOTSTRAP CLASS NAMES" action
@frankmaayn . is used within the style to tell that style that it's going to be a class. Basically, .red-text is like saying 'red-text' is a class
@frankmaayn when you're adding this item to your code, it's already going into the code after saying class=... so it already knows its a class
Need some help with the first project. So I have an unordered list with 2 list items so far, but I just can't figure out how to get the text and bullets to line up nice and neat in the center of the page. I got the bullets to center by using 'list-style-position: center', however the bullets themselves aren't lining up with each other, nor is my text. How can I fix this?
@dentemple Alright well just FYI, it seems that deleting text-align: center didn't solve the initial problem, all it ended up doing was moving everything to the left. Moving forward- is there a way to just set the entire page to align everything in the center?
@mstombock05 Add it with the little gear symbol next to the CSS title. There's a field where you can add a framework to your project
@mstombock05 Bootstrap adds a bunch of pre-declared classes that you can use like your own classes, just by adding them to your html like this class="whatever"
@vipuldcoder you need to add text-align: center; to whatever you're trying to get centered, which in your case (like mine) is basically everything
