Im supposed to add classes to an element in three seperate ways

Now you know three ways of targeting elements: by type: $("button"), by class: $(".btn"), and by id $("#target1").

Although it is possible to add multiple classes in a single .addClass() call, let's add them to the same element in three separate ways.

Using .addClass(), add only one class at a time to the same element, three different ways:

Add the animated class to all elements with type button.

Add the shake class to all the buttons with class .btn.

Add the btn-primary class to the button with id #target1.

Note
You should only be targeting one element and adding only one class at a time. Altogether, your three individual selectors will end up adding the three classes shake, animated, and btn-primary to #target1.

Run tests (ctrl + enter)
Reset Help Bug
Use the $("button") selector.
Use the $(".btn") selector.
Use the $("#target1") selector.
Only add one class with each of your three selectors.
Your #target1 element should have the classes animated‚ shake and btn-primary.
Only use jQuery to add these classes to the element.

It's directions are confusing me

@HammerMan42112 So it wants you to use the 3 separate ways of selecting the object to add a class to, with the .addClass() method, forexample 1 way is
$('#objectID').addClass('class');

General question here. Thus far, I have learned about HTML, CSS, and javascript and have them at my disposal. How do I know which to use to accomplish any given task. For instance, I suppose that I could build a website with javascript, and then turn around and build the same website with CSS. My guess is that is just kind of preference, but I am sure each method has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Joseph Livengood

@HammerMan42112:
The point of the challenge is to highlight how the classes are inherited from the parent.

// adds class animated to all buttons (6 in total)

$("button").addClass("animated");

// adds class shake to all buttons with class btn (6 in total)
// now buttons with class btn will now have classes animated and shake

$(".btn").addClass("shake");

// adds class btn-primary to button with id target1
// now the one button with both class btn and id target1 will have classes animated, shake, and btn-primary

$("#target1").addClass("btn-primary");

Hi there! Could anyone help me? I'm stuck with these instructions. I've read them over and over again but keeps running as incorrect. - Your h2 element should use the font Lobster.

  • Your h2 element should degrade to the font Monospace when Lobster is not available. The code is the following: <link href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Lobster" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">

    <style>
    .red-text {
    color: red;
    }

    h2 {
    font-family: <!--Lobster-->, Monospace;
    }

    p {
    font-size: 16px;
    font-family: Monospace;
    }
    </style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<p class="red-text">Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.</p>

<p class="red-text">Purr jump eat the grass rip the couch scratched sunbathe, shed everywhere rip the couch sleep in the sink fluffy fur catnip scratched.</p> Any help would do.

@AnimeHeart Its asking you to set the font of the h2 to be Lobster first, then Monospace if unavailiable, so look at the line:

h2 {
    font-family: <!--Lobster-->, Monospace;
}

It looks like the Lobster font is commented out

I had to comment out h2 because it was part of the instructions. - Your h2 element should use the font Lobster.
  • Your h2 element should degrade to the font Monospace when Lobster is not available.
  • Comment out your call to Google for the Lobster font by putting <!-- in front of it.
  • Be sure to close your comment by adding -->.

Jan 07 2017 02:16
@evan17gr Use http://api.forismatic.com/api/1.0/?method=getQuote&key=457653&format=jsonp&lang=en&jsonp=?
Each call to that url will be a random quote, go to it in your browser to see format.
I call it like $.getJSON

@evan17gr For example you could do it similar to this:
```$(document).ready(function() {
$.getJSON(url, getQuote, 'jsonp');
});
$("#getMessage").click(function() {
$.getJSON(url, getQuote, 'jsonp');
});
var getQuote = function(data) {
var message = data.quoteText;
var author = data.quoteAuthor;
};
```

create a new style rule inside style tags, to target the p elements

I am having issue passing the Mutations Challenge and I think its an issue with FCC. can someone check my solution and tell me if it should pass. The challenge is to search the first item in the array to see that each character in the second term is also in the first item. function mutation(arr) {

var mySrc = arr[0];
var myDhar = arr[1];
myDhar=myDhar.toLowerCase();
var myChar = myDhar.split("");

for (var i=0; i<myChar.length; i++){
if (mySrc.indexOf(myChar[i])===-1){
return false;
}
}

return true;
}

mutation(["Mary", "Army"]);

Hey guys i got stuck in a confusion. there is a file which when i downloaded the name was shown as "git-completion.bash" with the file-type extention name ".txt" in the Save-As option prior to the begining of dowloading. that means the full name with extension is "git-completion.bash.txt".
but when i view this file in my directory after downloading, the name was "git-completion" and the file-type extension is ".bash", and so the full name with extension is "git-completion.bash".
so is there something which happened under the hood?

hello
how to develop a catphoto app
carlosthecoderman
@carlosthecoderman
Jan 07 2017 04:35

Although it is possible to add multiple classes in a single .addClass() call, let's add them to the same element in three separate ways.

Using .addClass(), add only one class at a time to the same element, three different ways:

Add the animated class to all elements with type button.

Add the shake class to all the buttons with class .btn.

Add the btn-primary class to the button with id #target1.

Note
You should only be targeting one element and adding only one class at a time. Altogether, your three individual selectors will end up adding the three classes shake, animated, and btn-primary to #target1.

Totally lost on that
can anyone help

Hello, can someone give me a hint about jQuery? When the lesson asks to add this snippet of code INSIDE your document ready function, where exactly in this string do I insert the code?

Here's the example:For example, let's make all of your button elements bounce. Just add this code inside your document ready function:

$("button").addClass("animated bounce");
