I'm on the "turn an imagine into a link" section. I'm able to turn the a element into a dead link and make sure it has a closing tag, but for some reason I cannot nest the existing img element within an a element although it technically looks like that is what I did. Does anyone know how to do this?

@y0el22

is not mandatory to understand javascript

If you want to work in web dev it's kinda compulsory! (at least a tiny bit as long as you know another programming language as php or java)
Unless you want to be a designer and don't work with code :+1:

equis = arrayNew.join(" ");  //assigning a totally new value to equis

@y0el22 either you save a value to a diff varaiable or concatenate all the prototypes at once;
Example for the first:
var foo = something.toUppercase
var bar = foo + something else

return bar

Assuming you're using bootstrap here, it's nesting the row inside another row and applying additional padding

And becoming smaller
Is this how bootstrap is?

Try this:
<div class="container-fluid">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-xs-8">

</div>
<div class="col-xs-4">

<div class="container-fluid">

<div class = "row">

@Javlon1993: You also have to add the id attribute and it's value to the h1 element. It's the same process as adding the classes you did earlier:
<h1 class="pink-text blue-text" id="…">Hello World!</h1>

@Javlon1993 Class is for styling multiple elements and ID is for one.
A good way to remember the difference is a class is a type of item and the id is the unique name of an item on the page.

@Javlon1993 ids help a lot when you've got a lot of code and when you're using JavaScript to target specific areas of the webpage, classes just define the behaviour of the area so you can use bootstrap for example which has pre-programmed stuff without having to put in a load of CSS code to achieve the same thing. At least that's how I understand it

hi
can anyone help me giving an example

Now you know three ways of targeting elements: by type: $("button"), by class: $(".btn"), and by id $("#target1").

Although it is possible to add multiple classes in a single .addClass() call, let's add them to the same element in three separate ways.

Using .addClass(), add only one class at a time to the same element, three different ways:

Add the animated class to all elements with type button.

Add the shake class to all the buttons with class .btn.

Add the btn-primary class to the button with id #target1.

@B902: Most likely… the challenge is very specific. By adding the the animated class to the button selector, the shake class to the .btn selector, and finally the btn-primary class to the #target1 selector, the button with id of target1 will inherit all three classes, animated, shake, and btn-primary.

2 problems @riveraces, the text needs to be "cat photos" you have "catphotos". Also the link in your anchor tag needs to be in quotes
i guess the latter isn't needed but it should be

@rylew0925 I'm not sure but A is 10, B is 11, on up to F is 16
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jan 17 2017 04:56
@rylew0925 hex is a different numbering system
normally we use decimal which is base-10, meaning each digit there are 10 different values possible: 0-9
hex is base-16, meaning 16 different values can be possible for each digit
so after 9 is 10, but you can't say 10 because that's 2 numbers so we use A for 10, B for 11, and so on
Richard
@rylew0925
Jan 17 2017 04:58
Oh, I see. So basically it means the numbering goes from 0 -F?
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jan 17 2017 04:59
yep
then 16 would be 10 in hex
17 would be 11
Richard

Does it only go from 0-F or can it go beyond either end?

Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jan 17 2017 05:21
@rylew0925 think about division and remainders
20 is larger than 15 so you know itll be 2 digits to represent
Evan Kalvis
@evan17gr
Jan 17 2017 05:22
Does anyone know why nothing works ?https://evan17gr.github.io/Js-clock-with-animations/
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jan 17 2017 05:22
so divide 20/16 which is 1 remainder 4. The 1 represents your "10s" in hex. 4 is less than 16 so thats your "ones" in hex. So the answer is 14
if you tried to do 80 in hex. 80/16 is 5 with no remainder. 5 represents your "10s" and there is no remainder so your "ones" is 0. So the answer would be 50
thats the easiest way to calculate it by hand that I know of. There are online calculators that will do it for you too
Richard
@rylew0925
Jan 17 2017 05:24
I thought it was calculated by multiplying 16 * 5
stephen w. wright
@switheyw
Jan 17 2017 05:24
It's confusing because we are mixing both decimal and hexidecimal values - talking about hex in terms of decimal (or base 10)
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jan 17 2017 05:25
thats how you would convert hex back to decimal @rylew0925
Richard
@rylew0925
Jan 17 2017 05:25
so the key is division by 16 and remainders?
stephen w. wright
@switheyw
Jan 17 2017 05:25
your right richard, but how do you determine that? by div
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jan 17 2017 05:26
you multiply for hex -> dec, you divide when going from dec -> hex
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Jan 17 2017 05:26
AFAIK, you keep dividing the quotient by 16, and use the remainders to form up the final decimal value
stephen w. wright
@switheyw
Jan 17 2017 05:26
have you gotten into binary numbers yet?
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jan 17 2017 05:26

Richard
@rylew0925

Jan 17 2017 05:27

@Luah-88 you don't want your JavaScript in your HTML like that
it should be with the rest of your JS code, between the <script> tags
move that back and give the button back its default classes

so the number on the right of the letter gets added to 16 and then multiplied by the letter on the left is that correct?

also i wouldn't call them letters, they are all digits when you refer to it in hex
stephen w. wright
@switheyw
Jan 17 2017 05:48
Don't think about letters and numbers.
1 is 1, 10 is 16, 100 is 256
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jan 17 2017 05:49
you don't multiply any of the digits together. You multiply each digit to some factor of 16 then add those products together
for example 3D: (3 * 16^1) + (13 * 16^0) => (48) + (13) => 61
D is 13 in decimal, remember

does this concept also applies for colors?
stephen w. wright
@switheyw
Jan 17 2017 06:07
the concept applies to digital bits, bytes and words
The color tables are 8 or 16 bits wide and denominated in hex
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jan 17 2017 06:08
@rylew0925 it can to give you a wider range of colors, they talk about those in the FCC challenges
CSS also has a few hundred by name, but with hex you have many more options
over a million basically
actually over 16 million to be more precise

@luixherbfriend you need to have "View more" inside your p tags
the whole paragraph should read View more cat photos with cat photos a clickable link.

000000 is black, FFFFFF is white. so bigger the number the lighter the color is
thats all I memorize pretty much

hey y'all. i just started doing the HTML and CSS challenges here on FreeCodeCamp and i'm confused about the challenge about CSS classes. when the explanation says "classes are reusable styles that can be added to HTML elements", what does "reusable" mean in this case? i need this to be worded differently
