what do you think? The last if else is not working

function truncateString(str, num) {
// Clear out that junk in your trunk

var slicedStr = "";

if (str.length > num){
slicedStr = str.slice(0, num -3);
slicedStr += "...";
return slicedStr;

else if (str.length <= num){
return str;
}
else if( str.length < num){
slicedStr = str.slice(0, num);

}

truncateString("A-tisket a-tasket A green and yellow basket", 11);

Inside your style element, change the h2 selector to .red-text and update the color's value from blue to red.

Give your h2 element the class attribute with a value of 'red-text'.

<style>

.red-text {

color: red;
}
</style>

<h2>CatPhotoApp</h2>

<p>Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.</p>

@edinpark01: I would suggest restructuring your code with nested if statements so you don't need to repeat yourself.
If str.length is greater num
   if num is greater than 3
     return str slice at 0 and num - 3 then add "…"
   else
     return str slice at 0, num then add "…"
else return str

@khuzaima96 you almost had it right, but missed a few things -

<style>
  .red-text {
    color: red;
    {
       font-size: 16px;
    }
  }
</style>

font-size: 16px; needs to be on the p elements only, so you need to target the p selector to do that.
In general, any CSS rule follows this syntax

selector {
property: value;
}
@khuzaima96 take this outside the red-text class - {font-size: 16px;}
and use the p selector.

@chiuyong ok i found your problem

it around here

    <ol class="carousel-indicators">
                                    <li data-target="#magazine-img-carousel" data-slide-to="0" class="active"></li>
                                    <li data-target="#magazine-img-carousel" data-slide-to="1"></li>
                                    <li data-target="#magazine-img-carousel" data-slide-to="2"></li>
                                </ol>

you forgot # symbol for ID

add that like the above it should work

First, add a new image below the existing one. Set its src attribute to https://bit.ly/fcc-running-cats.
Your new image should be below your old one and have the class img-responsive.

how to you add font family of lobster to your h2 element?
Vizij
@Vizij
Jan 19 2017 03:27
@ebenji Okay, the first line you added is good. Take this: <img src="https://bit.ly/fcc-running-cats"> and move it just below the other <img> in your code. The one near the top.
The second line you added, you can delete.

Your img element should have the class smaller-image.
Your img element should have the class thick-green-border.
Give your image a border width of 10px.
Give your image a border style of solid.
The border around your img element should be green.
i got everything except for the first one :(

prarabdh9909
@prarabdh9909
Jan 19 2017 04:28
@wpr2004 you can do that by defining a style class like h2 { font-family : Lobster; } and then using that as a class
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jan 19 2017 04:28
you need to apply the silver-background to the div class
also the closing div tag needs to be at the very end, so the form should also be in the div @Honeypopov

@dleghthikos you don't want to create a class called p
you just want to style p tags, so you omit the period

I'm a little confused as to what the sizes mean in reference to the bootstrap grid, like "xs" and "md" etc. The tutorial says xs would be for small screens like mobile screens...ok that makes sense....but I want to create something that forms to the device it's on. Isn't that the whole point of the container-fluid class at the top of my source?

What challenge @stevenAfarmer ?
prarabdh9909
@prarabdh9909
Jan 19 2017 04:55
If that is the entire code, I think you just need to add <h2>CatPhotoApp</h2> cuz looks like you don't have any h2 element
what I mean is that in the style you are saying "if you find any h2 elements, make them blue" . But you don't have any h2 elements so there is nothing to make blue.

Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Jan 19 2017 06:10
you need to return what you're getting back from line 5
@Ekux
Ekux
@Ekux
Jan 19 2017 06:11
Line 6 is return item; why delete that? @Manish-Giri
i tried return arr.shift(); didn't work

Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Jan 19 2017 06:12
@Ekux show what you tried
i tried return arr.shift(); didn't work
@MAMvlogs what challenge is it
Ekux
@Ekux
Jan 19 2017 06:12
and to be fair, return arr.shift(); makes absolutely no sense in my mind
but how do I get it to return what is created by arr.shift(); _
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Jan 19 2017 06:13
when you say return ekux
what do you think it does
Ekux
@Ekux
Jan 19 2017 06:13
It returns the variable "ekux" into the console
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Jan 19 2017 06:14
so yeah
surferpilgrim
@surferpilgrim
Jan 19 2017 06:14

my code <style font-size: 16px;>
.red-text {font-size: 16px;} {
color: red;
}
</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<p font-size: 16px; class="red-text">Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.</p>
<p font-size: 16px;>
Purr jump eat the grass rip the couch scratched sunbathe, shed everywhere rip the couch sleep in the sink fluffy fur catnip scratched. </p> and the original code before reset:
<style>
.red-text {
color: red;
}
</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<p class="red-text">Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.</p>

Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Jan 19 2017 06:14
whatever follows return is what gets returned
surferpilgrim
@surferpilgrim
Jan 19 2017 06:14
so yeah
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Jan 19 2017 06:14
so what would return arr.shift(); do
@Ekux
badalsaibo
@heyDante
Jan 19 2017 06:15
@surferpilgrim you have two <style> elements
surferpilgrim
@surferpilgrim
Jan 19 2017 06:15
@heyDante you can only have one?
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Jan 19 2017 06:15
@surferpilgrim so you need to style the p elements yes?
badalsaibo
@heyDante
Jan 19 2017 06:15
put .red-text inside the first <style> element
surferpilgrim
@surferpilgrim
Jan 19 2017 06:15
yeah
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Jan 19 2017 06:15
create a new style rule inside style tags, to target the p elements
p {
...
}
and set the font-size in it
and yes, everything in the same set of style tags
Ekux
@Ekux
Jan 19 2017 06:16
@Manish-Giri It doesn't make sense because arr.shift(); is not a variable, it's an action that is applied upon a variable, for example arr.shift(myVariable); therefore it cannot be returned
Or I'm completely getting this wrong
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Jan 19 2017 06:17
@Ekux what does arr.shift() do?
Ekux
@Ekux
Jan 19 2017 06:17
Oh dangit. Right. It applies the shift to arr
surferpilgrim
@surferpilgrim
Jan 19 2017 06:17

so only have one p term and put the new text in that

<style>
.red-text {
color: red;
}
</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<p class="red-text">Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.Purr jump eat the grass rip the couch scratched sunbathe, shed everywhere rip the couch sleep in the sink fluffy fur catnip scratched.</p>

@surferpilgrim yes
Ekux

Jan 19 2017 06:18
Removes the first element of an array?
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Jan 19 2017 06:18
yes, and it also returns the removed element to you
Ekux
@Ekux
Jan 19 2017 06:19
Oh. I didn't know you can make it do multiple tasks on one line. Thank you, got it now.
function nextInLine(arr, item) { arr.push(item); return arr.shift(); }
(i do have them on 3 different lines)
Thank you @Manish-Giri
