Good evening, folks. I have been struggling quite a bit with the following challenge: https://www.freecodecamp.com/challenges/target-html-elements-with-selectors-using-jquery#?

It prompts me to nest this line of code -- ("button").addClass("animated bounce");-- into the function, which I do. However, it does not work. I have even put the code into the parentheses and brackets of the function, respectively. Can anyone help me?

Please help. I'm on Challenge 112 (Target the Parent of an Element Using jQuery) and I'm still confused by what makes something an "HTML Element" versus a "CSS element". I feel like I'm just going through the motions without understanding how to differentiate between HTML and CSS, which are spoken of as completely different things. Does this get less confusing eventually? Or am I already not absorbing stuff the way I should be?

@CherryPlaysRoblox1
Jan 20 2017 00:40
@grojas18 It does get complicated, but we can help. But the more you do code, the more you understand. Don't get so mad, because you do have help. HTML and CSS are different languages, so if you put CSS in HTMLS without style tags, it will have an error. Same thing the other way around.

Vizij
@Vizij
Jan 20 2017 00:42
@grojas18 HTML elements are things that comprise the structure of a page, like <h1> and <p>. They're also technically things that are metadata and invisible, like <meta charset="utf-8"> inside the <head> of a document. CSS selectors are things you use to target those elements, or classes those elements have, or a (singular) ID an element has, along with a few more complicated options.
Margaret
@Margaret2
Jan 20 2017 00:43
@grojas18 no such thing as a css element. the <style> element is just a way to include CSS in your page, normally you would have a separate .css file

@chiuyong try putting it on the ul first, if that doesn't work, try the li
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Jan 20 2017 01:06
@TylerMorrissey1 you need to et up a class in the CSS (between the style tags) and then 'assign' in to something in the html

@TylerMorrissey1 "Remember that CSS class selectors require a period at the beginning like this:

.blue-text {
  color: blue;
}

But also remember that class declarations don't use a period, like this:
<h2 class="blue-text">CatPhotoApp</h2> "

@chiuyong obv he use Span to keep it from start new line

@AgentZero24 Okay. $("button").addClass("animated bounce"); This part here is good, it was already there. You want to take this line and alter it: $(".text-primary").addClass("animated shake");

@AgentZero24 You're targeting elements with a well class. So, in order to do that, the first part of the jQuery statement has to target that element
So $(".text-primary") is incorrect. It needs to target the well class, not text-primary class
Paul

Hey can someone help me on this problem please?

This directions are:
With CSS, there are hundreds of CSS properties that you can use to change the way an element looks on your page.

When you entered <h2 style="color: red">CatPhotoApp</h2>, you were giving that individual h2 element an inline style.

That's one way to add style to an element, but a better way is by using CSS, which stands for Cascading Style Sheets.

At the top of your code, create a style element like this:

<style>
</style>
Inside that style element, you can create a CSS selector for all h2 elements. For example, if you wanted all h2 elements to be red, your style element would look like this:

<style>
h2 {color: red;}
</style>
Note that it's important to have both opening and closing curly braces ({ and }) around each element's style. You also need to make sure your element's style is between the opening and closing style tags. Finally, be sure to add the semicolon to the end of each of your element's styles.

Delete your h2 element's style attribute and instead create a CSS style element. Add the necessary CSS to turn all h2 elements blue.

<h2 <style blue>="color: blue">CatPhotoApp</h2>;

<p>Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.</p>

Here are more clear objectives:
Remove the style attribute from your h2 element.
Create a style element.
Your h2 element should be blue.
Ensure that your stylesheet h2 declaration is valid with a semicolon and closing brace.
Make sure all your style elements are valid and have a closing tag.

@colemanallme: Only this part:

<form action="/submit-cat-photo" id="cat-photo-form">

Is correct. The second part to style that id must be written in your style tags as it is CSS.
Reference what I did here:
