So, I can't get my h2 element to be red or my stylesheet to declare a red-text class with it's color set to red. HELP!

h2 red-text{

color: red;
}
</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jan 22 2017 00:08
@sl-moore remove the h2 part in the style, and add a dot before red-text in the style
the dot indicates you're defining a class
the h2 part is unnecessary because in a later challenge you're going to apply that class to another tag that isn't h2
look at the example to your left, it should look similar to that

@petenathan you have to change the text color in the CSS box. It tells you what to write in the example on the left hand side
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jan 22 2017 00:19
thats not making a class @petenathan, you define classes in your style tags
that code is only saying you want to apply the pink-text class to your h1 element
Pete Sathianathan
@petenathan
Jan 22 2017 00:21
so how do I make the CSS box?
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jan 22 2017 00:21
not CSS box, your style section
@petenathan it's something you've done a few times already in previous challenges, i would recommend going back to those if you're not sure how to create a class at this point
Pete Sathianathan
@petenathan
Jan 22 2017 00:22
what do I put in the style section

function getAllButLastElementOfProperty(obj, key) {
  // your code here
  if (obj[key][0] === "undefined" || typeof obj[key] !== "object" || obj.hasOwnProperty([key]) === false){

      return [];

  }

  obj[key].pop();

}

var objx = {

why
$(".target:nth-child(2)").addClass("animated bounce");
does the job - making the second elements in EACH .well? I supposed the JQuery above just renders some effect on second .target element?

@tiremon112 contacts[firstName] isn't a property, its an object
and yes i think you had an earlier question about using a for loop, yes you should use one
what you want to do is use the loop to iterate through the contacts array

Probably have something to do with length

then for each contact check to see if the firstname matches, if it does see if it has the property
using the hasOwnProperty function, try starting with that

@deguie you don't want the div to be both a column and a well
@deguie inside each div with class col, you want to create a new inner div and give that a class of well

I'm doing the "Use Spans for Inline Elements" lesson. Could someone please explain what the purpose of this span element is? Does it just change the text colors?
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jan 22 2017 00:53
@rylew0925 span is an inline element
it won't break the line after the span tag closes
this is the opposite of div which is a block element and breaks the line after it closes
Richard
@rylew0925
Jan 22 2017 00:54
So the purpose of span is to insert text without breaking the line?
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld

pretty much, span alone doesn't do anything but you usually give it a class or id and style it that way

@Hello911 basically the count is you just keeping track of cards you've seen
but instead of just memorizing each card which is difficult, you just assign each card a relative value
if its a high card you subtract from the count, if its a low card you add to it. If its a middle number you do nothing
in blackjack, you want to see more low cards before you make a huge bet because it increases the changes you get a better hand. You want face cards and aces over 4s and 5s
so thats why if the count is up, you bet. And if its 0 or less you hold (i.e. don't bet)

You can build web forms that actually submit data to a server using nothing more than pure HTML. You can do this by specifying an action on your form element.

For example:

<form action="/url-where-you-want-to-submit-form-data"></form>

Nest your text field in a form element. Add the action="/submit-cat-photo" attribute to this form element.

Run tests (ctrl + enter)
Reset Help Bug
Nest your text input element within a form element.
Make sure your form has an action attribute which is set to /submit-cat-photo

@tiremon112:
  • contacts is an array with 4 four objects. Each objects has a firstNamekey and a value that tells the person's name like "Akira" for example. Therefore you have to verify that the value of the firstName property equals the passed in firstName variable.
    contacts[i].firstName === firstName
  • else if(contacts[i] != firstName){
          return "No such contact";
        }
    Remove this. You can't know that a contact doesn't exist until you have looped through all the contacts and not found that specific person with that firstName. This means that you can only return "No such contact"; outside of the loop.

1) add the class to an element:

2) use that same class within the style tags to add css rules to it:
.class1 {

@tiremon112:
  • if contacts[i].firstName && contacts[i].hasOwnProperty(prop) === firstName is false then immediately this would run return "No such property"; and this return "No such contact"; would never run.
  • My suggestion is to use nested if statements:
    if (contacts[i].firstName === firstName) {
    if(contacts[i].hasOwnProperty(prop) {
       return contacts[i][prop];
    } else {
     return "No such property";

Hi all, I've just started bootstrap, and here is the description of what I have to do now "Now that we're using Bootstrap, we can center our heading element to make it look better. All we need to do is add the class text-center to our h2 element."

I'm a little confused because from my understanding you can centre elements with HTML too? so why do these instructions imply that you can't

To get started, we should nest all of our HTML in a div element with the class container-fluid.
Your div element should have the class container-fluid.
Make sure your div element has a closing tag.
Make sure you have nested all HTML elements in .container-fluid.

<link href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Lobster" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">

<style>
.red-text {
color: red;
}

h2 {
font-family: Lobster, Monospace;
}

p {
font-size: 16px;
font-family: Monospace;
}

.thick-green-border {
border-color: green;
border-width: 10px;
border-style: solid;
border-radius: 50%;
}

.smaller-image {
width: 100px;
}
</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<p>Click here for <a href="#">cat photos</a>.</p>

<a href="#"><img class="smaller-image thick-green-border" src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. "></a>

<p>Things cats love:</p>

<ul>
<li>cat nip</li>
<li>laser pointers</li>
<li>lasagna</li>
</ul>

<p>Top 3 things cats hate:</p>

<ol>
<li>flea treatment</li>
<li>thunder</li>
<li>other cats</li>
</ol>

<form action="/submit-cat-photo">
<label><input type="radio" name="indoor-outdoor"> Indoor</label>
<label><input type="radio" name="indoor-outdoor"> Outdoor</label>
<label><input type="checkbox" name="personality"> Loving</label>
<label><input type="checkbox" name="personality"> Lazy</label>
<label><input type="checkbox" name="personality"> Crazy</label>
<input type="text" placeholder="cat photo URL" required>
<button type="submit">Submit</button>
</form>

Vizij
@Vizij
Jan 22 2017 04:45
@teshawn Okay, that one is asking you to wrap all the HTML that's usually in the <body> inside a <div> with the container-fluid class.
If you look right where </style> ends, everything past that are elements that are actually displayed onthe page, i.e. in the body
So you have to wrap all of that inside a <div>

Jan 22 2017 04:47
Hello everyone. I am working on the tribute page and have added a link embedded into a text but I am not sure how to align that text to the far right. Currently it is on the left side of the page, I am trying the "margin-left" but I was wondering if there was an easier method.
Vizij
@Vizij
Jan 22 2017 04:48
@bielsista text-align: right; in CSS, you can apply it on a class and put that on the link, or however you deem appropriate
Teshawn Black
@teshawn
Jan 22 2017 04:48
@Vizij But I dont know where to end the </Div>
<div>
Vizij
@Vizij
Jan 22 2017 04:48
@teshawn All the way at the bottom, literally the last thing
Bielsa_
@bielsista
Jan 22 2017 04:48
Let me try that again because I previously attempted that before
It did not work I am applying to the right class because the font size is changing but it is not aligning right though
Vizij
@Vizij
Jan 22 2017 04:50
@bielsista That's ... odd. You got a Codepen?
Bielsa_
@bielsista
Jan 22 2017 04:50
Yes, this is the HTML: <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paulo_Coelho" target="_blank" class="link_text">- Wikipedia</a>
and this is the CSS: a.link_text {
font-size: 10px;
text-align: right;
}
Vizij
@Vizij
Jan 22 2017 04:52
@bielsista Is this in the middle of a paragraph or enclosed in other text? Because if you align right the link itself, it'll only do that within the space the link takes up
I.e., the little space that "- Wikipedia" occupies rather than the parent container
Teshawn Black
@teshawn
Jan 22 2017 04:52
But then it wants me to nest everything inside of .container-fluid @Vizij
Your div element should have the class container-fluid.
Make sure you have nested all HTML elements in .container-fluid.
Vizij
@Vizij
Jan 22 2017 04:53
@teshawn Yep. That <div> you added, you just need to add that container-fluid class to it
Bielsa_
@bielsista
Jan 22 2017 04:53
It is like this:
<div class="well">
<blockquote>Brazilian lyricist and novelist</blockquote>
<blockquote>All-time bestselling Portuguese-language author, sold an estimated 350 million books</blockquote>
<blockquote>Recipient of numerous international awards</blockquote>
<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paulo_Coelho" target="_blank" class="link_text">- Wikipedia</a>
</div>
So basically I have "block quotes" and then under that is the "-Wikipedia" with the link
rakeshcoolkat
@rakeshcoolkat
Jan 22 2017 04:54
$("#target4").html("<em>tratf</em>");
Emphasize the text in your target4 button by adding HTML tags.

@teshawn Okay, right at the top, you need to close this <div class=container-fluid with a > at the end, and also, container-fluid needs to be in quotes
Then you should be good

Jan 22 2017 05:11
@falconflyer87 Okay, what you have now is "defining" a class, so it exists. To use it, you have to put it on an HTML element using the class= attribute. Like if I wanted to use .red-text on a certain <h2>, I'd change it to <h2 class="red-text">

@briaannaab is it numbers or just random letters
Vizij
@Vizij
Jan 22 2017 05:23
@briaannaab Oh, that's more complicated then. You'd have to do a check on text after your fifth iteration to see how many vowels are in the string, then adjust accordingly depending on whether you need consonants or vowels.
Yeah, is it supposed to be completely randomized?
