@brisourceful easy way to test is writing code :)
open ur browser devtools... (F12 on most browsers)
go to console tab
and write it directly...
isNaN("text")
or
isNaN(78)
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jan 27 2017 00:01
or check documentation, NaN is a little confusing though tbh https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/isNaN
Moisés Man
@moigithub
Jan 27 2017 00:01
there are a ES6 version of IsNaN... which is Number.isNaN
last one do extra check, cuz globl isNaN return false positives
not sure what picture u talking about, plz explain @Gammi17

Anyone able to help me muddle through the finish of the Caesar Cypher? I feel like I am right at the end and cannot for the life of me figure out what I need to do to take the unicode values from arr and convert them back to letters. I understand it in theory, but .join .fromLocaleString and .fromCharCode just throw errors at me. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
function rot13(str) { // LBH QVQ VG!
    var arr = [];

     for (var i = 0; i < str.length; i++) {
           var value = str[i].charCodeAt(0);
         if ( value >= 65 && value <= 77 ) {
           arr.push(String.charCodeAt(0) + 13 );
       } else if ( str[i].charCodeAt(0) >= 78 && str[i].charCodeAt(0) <= 90 ) {
           arr.push(String.charCodeAt(0) - 13 );
       } else {
           arr.push(String.charCodeAt(0));
   }
  }
  return  arr;
}

// Change the inputs below to test
rot13("SERR PBQR PNZC");

@knickelbein you're mixing the syntax of CSS (the part in style ) and the inlyne stle declaration directly into HTML.

That challenge ask you to declare the font size into the style part. So remove it from here:
<p class="font-size; 16px"></p>
And apply the same logic into the style section :)

hey all! I'm really struggling with self-learning JS. I'm a little confused with the term undefined. For example,

country: "United States"

Returns as undefined but is this still considered valid incomplete code? or this valid JavaScript object with two properties?

@kilocycle boils down to:
  • offset + size for xs screens
  • offset + size for small screens and upward
Hasan
@hvsh
Jan 27 2017 02:39
@kilocycle matt bootstrap is a responsive framework meaning as the screen size goes down you have the ability to control the width of your columns
Margaret
@Margaret2
Jan 27 2017 02:39
offset is if you want to have blank columns to the left of the div @kilocycle
MrBlazeWalker

@Margaret2 why not just col-xs-offset-3?
Hasan
@hvsh
Jan 27 2017 02:40
@kilocycle youre changing the offset value for small screens from 3 to 4
if you were going to keep the same offset valye then xs-offset is enough.
Vizij
@Vizij
Jan 27 2017 02:41
@MrBlazeWalker Is there a space between "more" and "cat"? It's possible that's missing. Everything else looks okay.
Margaret
@Margaret2
Jan 27 2017 02:41
@kilocycle obviously whoever coded that wanted a different offset for different size screens.
Also, offset puts blank columns on the left side of the div, but it doesn't set the width of the div itself
Jeremy Francis
@alphastrata

Margaret

@kilocycle it is not that any one class is absolutely necessary, it just depends on what you want it to do, whoever coded that was just being very specific about what they want the div to look like

@jn239 the "smaller-image" class needs to be added to your <img> element, it has nothing to do with the <link> element

@kilocycle you just have to do some math, so that it will end up having an equal amount of space on either side.
col-xs-6 col-xs-offset-3 results in a centered div because 3 + 6 + 3 = 12
col-xs-4 col-xs-offset-4 would also work because 4 + 4 + 4 = 12

Why 'this' in f2() not refer to f1? It refer to the window object,but I think it should be refer to f1() function f1(){
alert(arguments[0]);
function f2(){
alert(this.arguments[0]);
}
f2();
}
f1(1,2,3);

alert(f1.arguments)

@touchapp: In the same way you gave the h2 element the class red-text here:
<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>, you also want to give your img element the class smaller-image. Then in your style tags give it a width of 100px.
@sandydowd5881: Either show the full code (including the style tags) or post the whole url to your challenge page… the error might somewhere else in the code.

Create a class called silver-background with the background-color of silver. Assign this class to your div element. This is what i've write : .silver-backgroung{
background-color: silver;
}...<div class="silver-background">
<p>Things cats love:</p>
<ul>
<li>cat nip</li>
<li>laser pointers</li>

<li>flea treatment</li>

@JasonCals that part looks good.. did you also add it as a class to the existing <img scr=....>?
like how with red-text you had a class in the CSS and then class="className" in the hmtl element?

@DarrenfJ that's the image: <img src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. ">
@JasonCals yah.. slide a class in there between the img and src so you can actually make it smaller
class name is same as in the CSS but without the dot

@JasonCals when you did the red-text exercise you had this in the CSS:
.red-text {
color: red;
}
and in the html you had <h2 class="red-text">some words here</h2>
JasonCals
@JasonCals
Jan 27 2017 07:33
yes
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Jan 27 2017 07:34
@JasonCals so you have in the CSS now:
.smaller-image {
width: 100px;
}
JasonCals
@JasonCals
Jan 27 2017 07:34
so i should have class="smaller-image" ?
and yes
Darren

@jmacias12 can you post what you have tried so far?
JasonCals
@JasonCals
Jan 27 2017 07:36

it worked.So if i wanna modify an element i also have to add a class in the elemnt structure itself,right?

if you look at the exercise they give an example of CSS to make an image bigger.. something like:
.larger-image {

  }
@tezztanmaya they are asking you to do something similar but make it smaller... and then add the class the the img tag in the html

here it is again: i'm on the first project, the HTML/CSS tribute page. mine is to a musician, so i want to put an HTML <iframe> element. however, no matter where i put the <iframe>in my codepen.io, it never renders and displays as part of the page. like, ever. i've even tried putting the <iframe> in its own <div> tag, thinking that might help, but no, no it did not. inside a <div>, no <div> tag, wherever i put the <iframe> in the HTML code, the <iframe> never shows in the rendered page. do i have the whole concept of <iframe> and embedding YouTube videos on an HTML page wrong? does codepen.io not support the <iframe> element? any help would be appreciated. here is my codepen for this — http://codepen.io/faddah/pen/qRXmLy .

@dayvidwhy but that explains it, i'll have to find something else.
@dayvidwhy <iframe> is HTML, thru HTML5. it is recognized by all the standards & rendering engines, including mozilla developer network. i have no idea what you mean by "write your own html"?

@faddah iframes let you embed other pages, the idea of the challenges is to write your own markup @faddah
if you want to use an image from another page for example save the just link to it using an img tag, can’t think of a reason as to why you want to embed an iframe

@dayvidwhy i would appreciate it if you would not, out of hand, accuse me of cheating. i'm trying to embed one YouTube video on my HTML/CSS tribute page, then only way i know how to embed a YouTube video. i'm not embedding someone else's HTML web page code into mine with <iframe>, just the music example. it is, frankly, rather rude of you to accuse me of doing so with no foundation to base that on. i was very specific and clear in my query from the beginning. i want to embed one YouTube video as a music example, not someone else's HTML code from another page.
