@Pettynes welcome
@RiseOfHaxers search is just a regular variable, but instead of storing a regular integer or string value, you stored an anonymous function in it, which takes one argument.

Set the ID of an Element
In addition to classes, each HTML element can also have an id attribute.

There are several benefits to using id attributes, and you'll learn more about them once you start using jQuery.

id attributes should be unique. Browsers won't enforce this, but it is a widely agreed upon best practice. So please don't give more than one element the same id attribute.

Here's an example of how you give your h2 element the id of cat-photo-app:

<h2 id="cat-photo-app">

Give your form element the id cat-photo-form.

@RiseOfHaxers In JS, you can use functions like that, store it in a variable, pass it to another variable, so this -

var search = function(name) {
  for(var prop in friends) {
    if(friends[prop].firstName === name) {
      console.log(friends[prop]);
      return friends[prop];
    }
  }
};

is the same as

function search(name) {
  for(var prop in friends) {
    if(friends[prop].firstName === name) {
      console.log(friends[prop]);
      return friends[prop];
    }
  }
};

@RiseOfHaxers okay, so

if(friends[prop].firstName === name)

the for loop iterates through every property in the object, and checks if the value of the firstName property is equal to the passed in value name - so like

friends.steve = {
  firstName: "Steve",
  lastName: "Jobs",
  number: "(408) 555-5555",
  address: ['1 Infinite Loop','Cupertino','CA','95014']
};

here if name was Steve, it would be a match..

@HDTechnician okay well basically on your form tag you need to add id="cat-photo-app" what this does is it takes the CSS code in the style tags and applies it to the form but in this point you don't have any CSS code for the id cat-photo-app

@syoo38 in this situation it requests that you use input type text so what you do is <input type="text">

mutation(["hello", "hey"]);

This is the function for Mutation Challenge. The function is given an array of 2 elements, 2 string to be exact. If the first element has everysingle letter in the second element (just one time, no case, no order), then the function returns true, if not false.

hey and hello works. But for example, mutation(["zyxwvutsrqponmlkjihgfedcba", "qrstu"]) is not returning true, somehow. I suspect there is something wrong with my if statement nested inside my for loop. Am I returning false or true multiple times, or some other problem?

I'm having trouble narrowing it down to one class. Any suggestions?Note
You should only be targeting one element and adding only one class at a time. Altogether, your three individual selectors will end up adding the three classes shake, animated, and btn-primary to #target1.

Use the $("button") selector.
Use the $(".btn") selector.
Use the $("#target1") selector.

Your #target1 element should have the classes animated‚ shake and btn-primary.
Only use jQuery to add these classes to the element.

i actually dont know. i dont quite understand it

You can build web forms that actually submit data to a server using nothing more than pure HTML. You can do this by specifying an action on your form element.

For example:

<form action="/url-where-you-want-to-submit-form-data"></form>

Nest your text field in a form element. Add the action="/submit-cat-photo" attribute to this form element.

that is what im suppose to do
Emmanuel Raymond
@peoray
Feb 04 2017 01:49
it shoukd be in ur <form> tag and not <input>
thats when ur adding the php or POST or GET to ur form
Pendramon

this might explain it: The action attribute specifies where to send the form-data when a form is submitted.

@NewbieChelsea you'd also see () in some places, like when setting up a for loop -

for (....)

and you'd also see {} in the same place

for(...) {
...
}

in such cases, think of the part within the () as some sort of a test, that evaluates to true or false, and the part within the {} as a block of code that executes based on the test.

console.log("Good night"):

Hello everyone! I would like some help with this question.
You can set an element's background color with the background-color property.
For example, if you wanted an element's background color to be green, you'd put this within your style element:
.green-background {
background-color: green;
}
Create a class called silver-background with the background-color of silver. Assign this class to your div element.
I wrote what is needed, (.silver-background {background-color: silver;}

Not sure if anyone has some insight, but I've been working through the jQuery section and I'm not sure I understand its function. I feel like half of this stuff can just be done with CSS. Or the appendTo function...you can literally just copy and paste that element. What is the point ..??
Vizij
@Vizij
Feb 04 2017 03:54
@jampcat9 Dynamic action. Let's say you want the user to hit a button, and that button appends a result somewhere.
You could also do that with vanilla JS, but jQuery makes it "easier"

@ju-u Classes are on the wrong element. You have them on the wrapper, so the <h3>'s inheriting the styles from them, but it won't pass that way.

you need to offset them with margins using bootstrap offset classes
col-md-8 col-md-offset-2 might help?

Hey I need help with a small question. Im doing the html5/css problem named "Prioritize One Style Over Another" and I can't seem to get the second check which says Your <style> should have a pink-text CSS class with its color set to pink.

<style>
body {
background-color: black;
font-family: Monospace;
color: green;
color: pink;
}

</style>

<h1 class="pink-text">

Feb 04 2017 04:37
@rancam in CSS anything in front of the brackets is a selector: p {..., .xyz { ...
class = the class attribute on your html element: class="..."
you tell the CSS you want to look for a class by putting a . in front of the class name
so .xyz { ... } selects any element with class="xyz"
i hope that make a little sense :D

jQuery has a function called .html() that lets you add HTML tags and text within an element. Any content previously within the element will be completely replaced with the content you provide using this function.

Here's how you would rewrite and emphasize the text of our heading:

$("h3").html("<em>jQuery Playground</em>");

jQuery also has a similar function called .text() that only alters text without adding tags. In other words, this function will not evaluate any HTML tags passed to it, but will instead treat it as the text you want to replace the existing content with.

Change the button with id target4 by emphasizing its text.

Coy Sanders

Feb 04 2017 06:55
asking you to emphasize the text inside the button w/ id target4
the html is only #target4
you need to change it so that text is emphasized
i.e. wrap em tags around it, like you see with example

border-radius won't do anything if you don't specify any other border properties, border is currently 0 right now. Can't do 50% of 0

@UnconqueredMindz Create a declaration within the style section. And yes, what @dsandeepchary said. It should say <link href= instead of <h2 href =.
UnconqueredMindz
@UnconqueredMindz
Feb 04 2017 07:52
it says my h2 element should use the font lobster @dsandeepchary
Luke
@gonzo85
Feb 04 2017 07:52
@UnconqueredMindz So you have an element of <h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>
Sandeep Chary
@dsandeepchary
Feb 04 2017 07:53
target h2 in css like you did for p to change its size
We use that link to import the font in to our page and use it
that should be on top of the page
@UnconqueredMindz
Luke
@gonzo85
Feb 04 2017 07:54
@UnconqueredMindz Now you want to "style" the CatPhotoApp font by telling it to use the lobster font. You do that by declaring on a separate line within the <style> and </style> area.
@UnconqueredMindz It should look something like:
h2 {
font-family: font name goes here;
}

Feb 04 2017 07:58

Setting styles within <style> will look similar to this outline:

section you want styled goes here {
type of style you want: which variation of style;
}

at least that's how i've been interpreting it, and it's been working out well so far.
And by section, I mean element.
