hello world
http://codepen.io/KoreanJones/pen/WpbRYx i am working on the first project quote machine. i have set up a basic layout and i have no idea how to add js!
Vered Rekanati
@veredrec
Feb 25 2017 00:37
@Franrodab98 So first step you need to create a div and give it the class container-fluid, or if there's <div> element, just add the class
@Franrodab98 then make sure that the div starts before all the other elements that you have, and closes after all of them.

@T-Vang I think you can start a career after FCC. I'm working on small projects as a freelancer, mainly with Wordpress, so it is not a lot of coding yet. I want to finish the front end certificate and then hopefully work more in coding. But my goal is different from a lot of people in this field because I want to work as a front end web developer for non-profit organizations...

Feb 25 2017 00:40
@koreanjones By the way, JS is built into your browser, so you don't have to add anything if you don't want. Just start coding away in the JS Panel of your codepen. If you want to use jQuery, that link I sent will help you get it set up.

No… it's just characters from BioShock walking across Abbey Road.
This: $('h1').css('visibility', 'hidden'); should still work if you place it inside the setTimeout() function… although jQuery would need to be loaded as well.

@makopa: Callback means you are passing a function into another function as a parameter. This:

setTimeout(function() {
  $('h1').css('visibility', 'hidden');
}, 2000);

can be written as this:

function hidden() {
  $('h1').css('visibility', 'hidden');
}

setTimeout(hidden, 2000);

In the second the hidden function is passed into the setTimeout() function as a parameter. That is what is meant by callback function— you pass one function into another.

@EstevaoGauss one example could be if you have a toggle option with text like on/off or add/remove that changes when the user clicks on it
or if you are getting data from an api and you want to set the text of an element based on that data

Your img element should have the class smaller-image. how?
neochoy
@neochoy
Feb 25 2017 02:56
Your h1 element should have the class pink-text.
Your <style> should have a pink-text CSS class with its color set to pink.
Your h1 element should be pink.
this is the challenge

To William Pritchard you tell me if I jumped to conclusion here, but Badal stated this @mk413 do the same method of CSS styling as you did for .red-text . I bet the necessary instructions are provided. Of course I read the "necessary instructions that are provided" just need to know why it won't change the color to blue when I've tried different variations to get it right. I'm not getting it

Or is there a link you have to place in the code?

@virus200 Bootstrap.css, bootstrap.js and jquery
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld

depends on the bootstrap.js and jquery part
bootstrap.css for sure, others are needed if you're adding more advanced features

width: 100px;
}

h2 {

How come font-size:5vw; doesnt work in my .headertext css class, but if I put it inline with my <h1> it does it? heres the code
<div class="headertext col-md-4">

Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Feb 25 2017 05:15
the problem is CSS precedence
inline styles take precedence over classes
and last defined class takes precedence over previous classes
Jeff
@Garanimal
Feb 25 2017 05:16
yes but in this example there are no inline or previous classes to override my headertext class
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Feb 25 2017 05:16
my guess is the bootstrap col-md-4 class has properties that conflict with your custom class
Jeff

Feb 25 2017 05:16
gotcha
Coy Sanders

Feb 25 2017 05:16
yes there is

Jeff

Feb 25 2017 05:17
do you think if i made another div so that one had col- and one had font-size it would reslove it?
Saboor Malik
@MathematicsCoding
Feb 25 2017 05:17
Maybe if font is more bigger
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Feb 25 2017 05:17
or, just change the order of classes
Jeff
@Garanimal
Feb 25 2017 05:17
or does precedence still occur within nested Div's
ok ill try that
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Feb 25 2017 05:18
but keep in mind that will mess up your bootstrap formatting
probably
actually not sure about that, think its ok to mix flexbox and bootstrap but not 100% sure

Hey, i am bit confused about the instructions on bootstrap. To get started, we should nest all of our HTML in a div element with the class container-fluid. So I thought it should be <div class = "container-fluid"> HTML for cat photos (h2, p, lists, etc.) </div>. But it looks like it is not really working. Where does the div go?

Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Feb 25 2017 05:32
@Gerdum the HTML is all your code minus the link and style tags
in real webpages the link and styles actually go in a different section (head section) than the code that you see on the page (body section)

Your h2 element and topmost img element should both be nested together within a div element with the class row.
Car
@Health-in-Happiness
Feb 25 2017 05:41

@ObayedZihan You can define the style you want to use for your p element. Example:

<style>
p {
font-color: blue
size: 1px;
{
</style>

<p>Hello World</p>

Or you can also create a class within the style class. Example:

<style>
.font-size {
size: 2px;
{
</style>

<p class="font-size">Hello World</p>

<p>Hello World</p>

@aisolae why is script inside header?
Jeff
@Garanimal
Feb 25 2017 06:18
Im currently using the boostrap grid system to format my html. I am doing two columns per row with one column containing text and the other column containing a picture. Obviously the more text I create the "longer" the text column gets but does that also affect the length of the image column? I want the image to be in the middle of the text but this is only possible if the image column expands with the text column. Heres my pen http://codepen.io/garanimal/pen/dvPXyd
Ideally the last picture there would be in the vertical middle of all of that text to the right

</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<p class= red-text>Kitty ipsum dolor sit amet, shed everywhere shed everywhere stretching attack your ankles chase the red dot, hairball run catnip eat the grass sniff.</p>

@Health-in-Happiness
Feb 25 2017 06:34

@JuanMP429 You can style the p element itself Example:

<style>
p {
font-color: blue;
size: 16px;
{
</style>

<!--Comment:
The element which has been defined within you style tag should
automatically load whatever changes you added to it. -->

<p>Hello World</p>

Or you can also create a class within the style class. Example:

<style>
.font-size {
size: 16px;
{
</style>

<!-- Comment:
If you want to create a class (in this example I just labeled it
"font-size" then you declare and define the class in the style tag
and add it to whatever element. So whenever you create a class,
you can you it on any element you want to add it to and unlike
the example above, the styles (like font-sizes, color., etc.,)
will only be limited to that particular element. -->

<p class="font-size">Hello World</p>

@figurant94: That is incorrect…
This: a *= a * 1; is the wrong way to write it. It should be like this: a *= 1; which is the same way as writing a = a * 1;, but the challenge wants you to use the *= format.
Also your math is incorrect 12 * 3 = 26 (b is already 12) and 4.6 * 10 = 46 (c is already 4.6).
