What I have gathered so far from jQuery is that you can use it to modify, add, and remove things like classes, css, and html but I don't understand why would you use jQuery to do this instead of just typing the code in either css html or whatever?
Saboor Malik
@MathematicsCoding
Feb 26 2017 00:10

@virus200 hmm user experience. Example the user moves mouse, and it changes the css. If you'd have to type it in, he would have to call you, then you change the code, upload it to the server, and call him back to reload the page

Your h2 element should be red.
Your h2 element should have the class red-text.
Your stylesheet should declare a red-text class and have its color set to red.
Do not use inline style declarations like style="color: red" in your h2 element.

Your h2 element should be red.
Your h2 element should have the class red-text.
Your stylesheet should declare a red-text class and have its color set to red.
Do not use inline style declarations like style="color: red" in your h2 element.

<style>
h2 {
red-text
}
</style>

Anyone have any suggestions on how to debug this or what might cause it? I put together the twitchTV project. Built this: http://codepen.io/XXiphias/pen/mWyjMa?editors=0010 But when you go between all and online the image of the 3rd twitch streamer jumps to the right each time. I've tried rearranging the elements, removing some, adding some but it jumps no matter the elements. The css on the image has it floated left, nothing elaborate.
it's not a huge issue, but rather annoying :p im tempted to just use an online ul and an offline ul and show/hide the whole ul for filtering

ChrisC360
@ChrisC360
Feb 26 2017 03:58
so they are completely seperate?
Chris Jantzen
@XXiphias
Feb 26 2017 03:58
just <button class="btn btn-block etc."><i></i>Like</button>
Jeff
@Garanimal
Feb 26 2017 03:58
@ChrisC360 the fa fa-thumbs-up should be under an <i>icon element</i> and the btn is under the <button>button element</button>
ChrisC360
@ChrisC360
Feb 26 2017 03:59
then how do you next the I element within the button element?
Jeff
@Garanimal
Feb 26 2017 03:59
Im pretty happy with how my tribute page came out. I just want to konw if there is a simple way to center the picture vertically. heres the codepent http://codepen.io/garanimal/full/dvPXyd/
Chris Jantzen
@XXiphias
Feb 26 2017 03:59
you almost have it correct. its just that the btn classes have to go on the button. And you probably want to move Like out of the <i> element @ChrisC360
Jeff
@Garanimal
Feb 26 2017 04:00
@ChrisC360 yes <button class="btn etc> <i class= fa fa-etc></i></button>

@ChrisC360 and put the Like after the </i>! Not in the i element
Jeff
@Garanimal
Feb 26 2017 04:01
@XXiphias No the one in the header is perfect. The header formatting took me forever to get right so it adjusts with the screen. Its the three pictures in the info text that I would like to center if I can to fix some of the formatting/blank space
ChrisC360
@ChrisC360
Feb 26 2017 04:01
<button class="btn btn-block btn-primary"><i class="fa fa-thumbs-up">Like</i></button> this worked
Jeff
@Garanimal
Feb 26 2017 04:02
@XXiphias the issue I am running into is that the columns wit the images would need to adapt to the columns adjacent to them that hold the text. The only thing I saw was a Jscript fix but I dont know Jscript well yet and I am trying to do it all with CSS and HTML even though I know that is not very efficient
Chris Jantzen
@XXiphias
Feb 26 2017 04:02
@Garanimal you could give them margin-top: 50%; though I wouldnt do that for the top image
ChrisC360
@ChrisC360
Feb 26 2017 04:03
apparently it worked with the </i> before and after the Like text @XXiphias
Chris Jantzen
@XXiphias
Feb 26 2017 04:03
the browser probably forces it to work @ChrisC360 but technically it's not valid html. so better out of the <i></i>. Im surprised the parser allowed it for completing the exercise
but regardless im glad you got it working :)

you need to have cat photos here in the anchor element

Feb 26 2017 06:03
though @virus200 , with that said, you are using a container-fluid in your code. with that for it to do anything you'd want to add another div in that with class="row" and then more in there with div class="col-m-12" or whatever size you want for the column

I was about to get crazy with the tribute page exercise. I couldn't understand why I wasn't able to code the page the same way the did it in the example
then I've finally understood that in the exercise they actually use another bootstrap file from the one you actually get from the PEN editor

@Haroldgomez777 you can target classes of button by adding the corresponding status. E.g.:
.button:hover{
background-color: #212121
}

actually, below are the four steps given.
Add an i element with the classes fa and fa-thumbs-up.
Your fa-thumbs-up icon should be located within the Like button.
Nest your i element within your button element.
Make sure your i element has a closing tag.
my code works except second condition that says "Your fa-thumbs-up icon should be located within the Like button. "
